SOLUTIONS FOR HOT LIQUID CONTAINMENT Growing market expectations require new high performance materials. Solmax’s latest innovation is its patent pending HLR (Hot Liquid Rated) Series of geomembranes. With its unique blend of special resins and additive package, this series of hot liquid resistant geomembranes offers the same hydrostatic strength and long-term durability as traditional HDPE Geomembranes do at typical service temperatures. Long Term Durability in Hot Liquids Long term performance of a geomembrane is the main concern of any designer, especially when higher temperatures are considered. The depletion rate of anti-oxidants rises as temperatures increase. The innovative additive package used in the HLR Series allows this geomembrane to perform, even at temperatures as high as 100°C (212°F), for extended periods of time. As geomembranes usually serve to contain solids or liquids, also to be considered is the anti-oxidant depletion rate in liquids. Just as a screw will rust at a higher rate in water than in air, the depletion rate of anti-oxidants of geomembranes is higher when they are immersed rather than exposed. Solmax continues to innovate by using a special additive package that allows its HLR Series to retain their anti-oxidants in hot liquids, which allows for long term durability of the geomembranes, even in the harshest conditions. As per ASTM D-5322*, Solmax’s HLR Series is the only PE geomembrane to retain over 90% of its anti-oxidants after 90 days of full immersion in 80°C (176°F) water, making it the only PE geomembranes to be Hot Liquid Rated.

Hydrostatic strength at high temperatures As temperature increases, the elastic modulus of traditional HDPE geomembranes decreases. This means that the material becomes softer and offers less tensile strength. The specialty resin used in the HLR Series allows these geomembranes to retain their elastic modulus and tensile strength values at temperatures up to 100°C (212°F). Property

Welding Compatibility with HDPE The HLR Series’ resin is a unique blend of HDPE. This allows this distinctive geomembrane to be welded to traditional HDPE or LLDPE liners.
