Quito is an ancient city, so it is important to have a place to teach about the natural history of the site on which it sits. Quito has increased its urban area over the past 50 years, building the city over streams, lakes and riverbeds, which have caused problems such as landslides, floods and subsidence. Citizens do not know about the landforms on which the city is built and the importance of these systems within the natural drainage, and how the first inhabitants of the city were related to these conditions. The lack of identity of Quito’s residents with its surroundings although the irregular topography of the plateau of Quito, that offers unique landscape features to the city. The necessity for a teaching space about the geological history of the settlement place of Quito, in order to understand the geographic location where people live at these days and how they should adapt and relate to these conditions.

SPATIAL INTENTIONS

1. No relation between exterior and interior.

2. Spatial and visual disconnection

It is very important to visualize the main element that would permit this bond: the theater access. The access will create an equal dialogue between the interior and the plaza, arranging the crease growth along the public space.

3. SPATIAL SOLUTION

The wrapped cover or creases act as a space generator with a variety of textures and tones. The crease must be the element that helps the plaza adapt again to the urban pattern, saving levels, indicating accesses, marking out circulations, opening visual points, connecting spaces and

The urban sorroundings of the plaza are a transition space between Colonial or Old Quito and the modern city. There for, there’s a combination between cultural venues, circulate across the plaza. This circulation would allow our users to take over the space we propose for the plaza.
