King Juan Carlos Of Spain To Abdicate
Well Dressed
By Martin Shortland
King Juan Carlos of Spain is to abdicate after more than 40 years on the throne. The announcement was made to the Spanish Assembly on Monday morning by the country’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, he said, “His majesty, King Juan Carlos has just communicated to me his will to give up the throne, I’m convinced this is the best time for change.”
image: http://www.theguardian.com/
Once popular Juan Carlos, 76, helped smooth Spain’s transition to democracy in the 1970’s after the
Francisco Franco dictatorship, has lost public support in recent years due to corruption scandals and gaffes. His daughter Princess Cristina and her husband, Inaki Urdangarin are under investigation in a corruption case. The king whose health is failing, has had a number of hip operations in recent years and is stepping down for personal reasons, the statement said. His reputation was tarnished dramatically when it was discovered he went on a lavish elephant hunting trip in Botswana in 2012, in the middle of Spain’s financial crisis. There is no allowance in the Spanish constitution for an abdication and the Prime Minister said he would be discussing the handing over process with his cabinet this week. The crown will pass to the king’s 46 year old son Prince Felipe, who will become king Felipe VI.
On Saturday, 31st. May, Camposol held its very first well dressing ceremony. Works of art created in traditional Derbyshire style were presented to decorate the well, which was then blessed by Rev. Kent from St. Nicholas church, after which all those attending presented plants to further enhance the colourful spectacle of a traditional stone built well, built by Yorkshireman, Jason Jessop, decked with flowers, here in Spain. The event was organised by Los Palacios Garden Volunteers, who created the Parque Los Palacios and introduced by David Senior Peake, who emphasised that it was a celebration of many of the groups in Camposol working together, and would not have been possible without their help. Participating groups included, St. Nicholas Church, Mabs, FAST, Ex-servicemen’s association, and Forget me Not, Cliff and Brian
from the Camposol guitar group, plus Antonio, Flamenco guitar, providing live music, with support from local business too, Miles Better Water Filters, Helping Hands, Garden Centre 2003, Tel’s Bar, and Costa Calida Caring Agency. Special thanks to all those who gifted food, which was much enjoyed by the many people who stayed to listen to the music, and most of all, special thanks to Annette’s art group, who created the dressings, which will be displayed at the community centre on B for all to admire. All plants donated will be on display to welcome everyone visiting Camposol for a few days, after which a more suitable home will be found in the parque where we hope they will prosper, and can still be admired. A good day, enjoyed by all, and further proof that Camposol keeps getting better and better.

The Phoenix Solo Club support for AFA
The members and friends of The Phoenix Solo Club raised a magnificent sum of 900 euros from various activities throughout the year and finalising it with a very successful ‘Charity Day’ which was held at The Marina Bar, Torreter 111 on the morning of Tuesday 15th April , which was organised by Dorothy Harris, a very enthusiastic and valued member. There were many stalls, including , tombola, name the bear, a raffle with great prizes, books and bric a brac with lovely gift ideas for all. It was at one of the club’s regular Monday morning meetings ( they meet each Monday morning at 11.00 a.m. ) in The Marina Bar, in the port, behind the small bus station, in Torrevieja, when Matilde Sanchez, the president of the Alzheimer’s Association was invited to give a talk on the problems of people facing life with this cruel disease, and the activities at the Alzheimer’s Day Centre where these people and their families are encouraged through the various therapies available to maintain an active life for as long as possible. Help and support is also offered to families and carers experiencing the
needs of their loved ones at this time. The president of the Phoenix Solo Club, Malcolm Peasgood and his fellow committee member, Bernice Taylor, together with Dorothy, were happy to present to Matilde the 900 euros donation on behalf of all the members and friends of the Phoenix Club. Matilde (and Judy Ferris also of AFA ), thanked the members most sincerely for their truly generous donation, leaving with a request to stay friends with anyone nursing a partner with Alzheimer’s or indeed any dementia, as they can become very isolated with a partner who no longer has any interest or conversation to offer. It could happen to you!

The Costa Cálida (“Warm Coast”) is the approximately 250 km stretch of South Eastern Mediterranean coastline of the Spanish province of Murcia. This region has a microclimate which features comparatively hot mean annual temperatures (and hence its name, “Warm Coast”) and a relative degree of aridity (rain fall averaging less than 34 cm annually).
The northern end of this coastline includes the Mar Menor (“Little Sea”), a coastal saltwater lagoon which at around 170 km2 is Europe’s largest.

HELP M.M.M. Donates to Caritas Sucina
Lady Elisabeth, Honorary Patron of HELP Murcia Mar Menor, presented the cheque for €1,000 to the local priest, Fr. Jose Joaquin Izurzu, Presidente (Sacerdote) on Monday 26th May at Vino’s Victors Café/Bar in Sucina. The Mayor, Pepe Mercader, and others also attended. Caritas in Sucina started in October 2013 in response to identified needs in the local community. In this area, Caritas covers Sucina, Avileses and Casas Blancas. They currently help 28 families and 130 people including children. They don’t only help Spanish people, their assistance is based on the needs of the family or individual regardless of ethnic origin. Currently they are helping a Belgian person. They will use the money to buy perishable food such as milk, potatoes, oil and clothes which are in general demand. Sometimes they also assist by helping to pay a mortgage, rent, or electricity and water bills. They raise funds by occasional special collections in the church and other local charitable events. They could benefit from more donations and contributions of food, clothes and money. Photo No1 shows Lady Elisabeth presenting the cheque to Fr. Jose Joaquin. WE´RE legal...and it´s official
That´s the message from the troubled Orihuela Costa charity Help at Home Costa Blanca, which has finally received official acceptance that the charity´s president is Eileen Mayes. The certificate from the relevant provincial government office in Alicante has now been issued and presented to the bank, which means the long-running internal dispute in the charity has finally been resolved. The charity was founded about three years ago by Norah Bond and Marivi Nerva Cuela, and expanded to a membership of nearly 100 volunteers, offering help to people in a number of ways, support if they were going into or coming from hospital operations, helping people with shopping or tidying up homes if people couldn´t cope. When Mrs Bond stood down as president, Mrs Cuela took over, appointed at an AGM, but within weeks members were voicing concerns and these culminated in the calling of two EGMs, at which, by overwelming majorities, Mrs Cuela was removed from office on a vote of no confidence and Mrs Mayes was elected president. However, Mrs Cuela refused to accept that decision, maintaining the meeting was illegal and that she and her handful of supporters represented the “real” charity, holding fund-raising events using the charity´s logo to promote them. Mrs Mayes commented: “I am delighted that finally it has been recognised by the relevant official bodies that the EGM was lawful and that the membership had the right to decide who they wanted as
president. “Many volunteers were obviously unhappy with the situation, particularly over the intimidation which has occured during the dispute. I sincerely hope that these people will now return and give their services again to the charity, so we can go forward and do the work which we were set up to do, that is to look after the patients who need our help and support.” New badges are to issued to volunteers Mayes´signature Mrs containing validation and anyone who has not got such a badge must be considered as not belonging to the charity. In addition the many entertainers who have loyally given their services at fundraising events will be notified so they too know that any money they raise will go to the official charity. The official charity fund-raiser is Norah Bond, and no other person, added Mrs Mayes. Anyone who wants to volunteer their services to the charity should call into the charity shop in Playa Flamenca commercial centre (10.30am to 2pm weekdays and Saturdays) or telephone 603267140 or 604151364.

Light it up
Careful consideration of every socket, shelf and lighting source has transformed a poky bathroom in to an inviting space. The designer enlisted lighting designer to install hidden LED’s to change the feel of the space. We used lights on top of mirrors, and illuminated the dead space beneath the floating shelves and the vanity unit, with creates a feeling of depth: the bathroom appears so much bigger.

Simplify your life - pass on anything you haven’t used in 18 months to a charity shop or put it on Freecycle. Clothes, shoes, crockery, the works. The owners of this house, decorated by David Bentheim, disposed of much of what they had collected over the years t o downsize and start again. If they can do it, so can you. History
Cultivation of the native wild tree began in the Near East around 6000 years ago. Tree cultivation and oil extraction was brought to Iberia by the Phoenicians around 1050 BC, but it was the Romans who turned Iberian oil into an industry, though this was a bit too radical for the native Iberian tribe, who preferred to stick to their traditional use of lard! The importance of Iberian oil to the Empire was huge - Spanish oil amphorae have been found everywhere the Romans went. Mount Testaccio in Rome is an artificial hill made up of 40 million amphorae, most of which are from the Iberian Peninsula. Hadrian even had a coin struck bearing the picture of an olive branch and the inscription “Hispania”. In ancient times it was believed that olive trees had to be planted near the sea in order to thrive. One thing is for sure, though, and that

The Olive Tree is that olive trees love tough, rocky soil and craggy limestone cliffs. In fact they do better in poor soil than they do in rich, fertile earth.
Growth & Olive Production
Slow growing, traditionally bearing fruit after fifteen years, modern trees can, due to agricultural developments, mature at five. A tree reaches maximum productivity after 40 years, and after 140 begins to decline, though thousandyear-old trees can and do still bear rich loads. Olive tree age is often exaggerated though Lo
Parot in Horta de Sant Joan in Tarragona is certainly between 1,000-1,500 years old meaning it was planted during Visigoth or Arab times. If you ever fancied gracing y o u r garden with a beautiful, gnarly old tree you might be lucky. There exist operations dedicated to saving centuries-old olive trees from construction sites and then finding ‘homes’ for them. Rather than purchasing the tree, the new owner simply pays for the salvaging, storage and replanting. To find out if there is a scheme in your area ask at your local Ayuntamiento. in Andalucia today is the Olea Europeae. It is sufficiently important to have inspired the Junta de Andalucia (Regional Government) to track every commercial tree. In fact each one has its own GPS co-ordinates and is carefully monitored by regional officials. This is mainly to ensure fair play when it comes time to hand out subsidies. While most farmers play by the rules, certain unscrupulous folk were caught at the turn of this century trying to pass off wooden posts as olive trees…
Olive Oil
It takes between 4kg & 11kg of olives to make 1 kilo of oil. The whole olives are ground
and then pressed, leaving a mulch. This mix of pulp, stone, water and oil is then spun centrifugally, bringing to the surface ‘aceite flor’, which is then further treated by decanting & filtering to rid it of water and impurities. It should be used within 12 months of bottling & stored in a dry place out of sunlight. Spanish olive oil comes in four distinct classes, defined by national health regulations: (1) Aceite de Oliva Virgen [Virgin Olive Oil], a completely natural product. (2) Aceite de Oliva Refinado [Refined Olive Oil],

perfectly acceptable, but not as full in taste. Ideal for cooking (3) Aceite de Oliva [Regular Olive Oil], a blend of refined and virgin olive oil. (4) Aceite de Orujo/Marc/ Pomace [Pomace Oil], made from olive oil pressings. Buy this and you get what you pay for! Apart from eating, cooking, lamp fuel, preservative, medicine, cure, laxative, aphrodisiac, cosmetic, unguent, magic potion ingredient and religious unction, the olive is being tried by experimental energy stations, which burn ‘aceite de orujo’ to generate electricity. They are hoping to start supplying the national electric grid in the near future!

Bike Guide Camposol
Bike Ride from Camposol to Totana Round trip 46-47 kilometers. Time: 3 Hours. Average Speed; 14-16 k/Hr
This trip is not really difficult and is pleasant as you pass many farms. It is perfect for a Sunday trip. Put about four hours to do this tip. Your bicycle is OK, you have water, air pump and a snack with you. Assuming you start about 10 in the morning, or may be earlier especially during hot summer days. 1-From Camposol Consum/gas station area, take the pedestrian crossing bridge and go to the other side and head north. Take service road (Via de Servicio) to next or second rounabout.
Iberdrola power station, some orchards and now you are in Totana. Go straight up.
Point: Several restaurants in center of town. Pay attention to central town church when coming back to head south. Point: When you are coming back, remember to exit highway at the very fist major exit after crossing a roundabout, which has clear sign and you are on the highway just for a minute. Point: On the way back and at the end of RM-27 cross the highway accordingly as this road is dead end just few steps before Camposol.
2-You MUST cross the RM-3 HWY in either first or second roundabout AFTER you are completely out of Camposol. La Pinilla roundabout is better to go underpass.
Point: in Los Cantareros there is a bar and a restaurant which are open on Sundays in the case you want to make a short stop.
3-Now you are on route RM-27 and keep on going north. Later changes to RM-315.
Point: El Romero has second hand market on Sundays around noon.
4-Pass some small towns, a gas station, many farms and you come across a roundabout that if you look to right, you see underpass. Clue: A large house here.
Point; El Pareton has a traffic light.
There are no visible bike shops in Totana
5-Cross underpass and immediately enter highway, which goes north. It is OK and there is no other way to get to Totana. Stay on the shoulder for safety. 6- Stay on this highway and soon it becomes a regular street. You will pass a car wash,

The Chaos
Hello and welcome to CanDu Computer Bytes. XBMC has just had a new release! Gotham V13.0. Gotham! Isn’t that something to do with ‘Batman’? Yep it is, but as is usual in the world of programming, it is also an identification label for the next generation of a particular piece of software (program). It is common and expected because it reflects the fun aspect of the people involved (but that falls in degree level Psychology, one of many things I know nothing about). Some of you may already know that XBMC stands for Xbox Media Centre. For those of you who are still no wiser, XBMC was designed for Xbox (the games console) to be able games players, who interact over the internet during multi-player shared games, access to online streaming tv/ movies. It later evolved into a place where pictures, music and videos could be stored and played from. Why haven’t we all heard of this before? Maybe you have but weren’t aware of it at the time. How many of us have seen someone “showing off” their brand new internet tv box that allows them to watch 100’s of tv channels? Did you realise that the program you were watching on the anonymous black android powered box was actually XBMC? XBMC has been, and continues to be, developed by the XBMC foundation which is a non-profit organisation. Non-profit, in this case, means that the developers and organisation make nothing out of it! Pretty straight forward? Well let me throw another phrase at you - “free and open source”. Free as in “free beer” and open source meaning anyone can look at the code
and the manner that the bits go together to makes it work. This open source is the secret as to why it is free! You didn’t know that it was free? So why pay 150€ and more, for a 50€ box that comes with this free software? In ordinary circumstances, I would be on my soapbox (remember me burning that several weeks ago?) and calling down a rain of fire on these thieves and charlatans, BUT, as with all things we have to consider the time spent learning every nook and cranny of this program, which has many more faces than the proverbial town-hall clock. The experience acquired is needed to make your viewing experience as simple and painless as possible. There are a scant handful of people who, I feel, have earned the right for me to part with my hard earned money to buy an internet tv box. Watch who I talk to at places like Llano market equidistant from Albox and Arboleas. What major changes have come with this new version of the free program? Well they have improved the 3D playback of videos; modified the code to include even more android video hardware; An episode bookmark so you don’t have to remember which episode of the series your were watching or how far into the episode you got; for those of you with tablets, the touch screen has been altered to make touch control better. The quality of the changes are as impressive as the list is long! Enough for today. I hear my once a week beer calling me. See you tomorrow at Jack’s Bar in Albox for my Friday afternoon computer clinic! If you would like a clinic nearer to you – make the suggestion using the email address under this article and we will see what can be done.

braben’s blog... Has it happened to you? It’s certainly happened to me, you know, those times when you’ve been annoyed or upset by someone and would give anything to have a really smart or witty response to hand. Instead, if you’re anything like me, you’ll stutter something unintelligible, pull tongues and slink away, muttering under your breath. To make matters worse, you’ll probably wake at about 3 am the next morning with that witty yet withering reply ready for use! Too late of course, unless you want to be cruel and telephone them with it! I often think about how fantastic it would be to have the wit of the professional writer at my fingertips, the skill, let’s say, of those song lyricists who keep us captivated and whose words live long in the memory. Or, then again maybe not! You see I did a little investigating to see what I could find that would leave people wilting at the strength of our witty yet cutting ripostes and was more than a little disappointed at what’s out there. Madonna for example, who knows a thing or two about the music business and who you would expect to come up with some
sharpish comebacks certainly let me down. I mean, how could the person who sang, “But I like New York/Other cities make me feel like a dork,” help us in hour of need? But then it got worse! I did a little more research and found some song lyrics that I just had to share with you. This isn’t necessarily so that you can use them yourself but because it beggars belief that someone, not only wrote them, but then was so proud of them that they were delighted to see them go public. Des’ree for example. Not only is she famous for having a mysterious apostrophe in her name, but she should also be more than slightly embarrassed by the content of at least one of her songs. I ask you, how can anyone sing, “I don’t want to see a ghost...I’d rather have a piece of toast” and not roll around the studio laughing? Then there’s the geographically challenged Sade. In one of her songs she sang, “Coast to coast/LA to Chicago...” A quick flick through a rudimentary geography book confirms why Sade chose to be a singer rather than an explorer! Oh well, it’s back to tongue pulling then.

Here is the second part of the tongue twisting poem The Chaos by the Dutch teacher Gerard Nolst Trenite. Created in 1920 to enlighten and inform about the intricacies and difficulties of the English language. Of such puzzling words as nauseous, Rhyming well with cautious, tortious, You’ll envelop lists, I hope, In a linen envelope. Would you like some more? You’ll have it! Affidavit, David, davit. To abjure, to perjure. Sheik Does not sound like Czech but ache. Liberty, library, heave and heaven, Rachel, loch, moustache, eleven. We say hallowed, but allowed, People, leopard, towed but vowed. Mark the difference, moreover, Between mover, plover, Dover. Leeches, breeches, wise, precise, Chalice, but police and lice Camel, constable, unstable, Principle, disciple, label. Petal, penal, and canal, Wait, surmise, plait, promise, pal Suit, suite, ruin. Circuit, conduit Rhyme with “shirk it” and “beyond it”, But it is not hard to tell Why it’s pall, mall, but Pall Mall. Muscle, muscular, gaol, iron, Timber, climber, bullion, lion, Worm and storm, chaise, chaos, chair, Senator, spectator, mayor Ivy, privy, famous; clamour Has the a of drachm and hammer. Pussy, hussy and possess, Desert, but dessert, address. Golf, wolf, countenance, lieutenants Hoist in lieu of flags left pennants. Courier, courtier, tomb, bomb, comb, Cow, but Cowper, some and home. “Solder, soldier! Blood is thicker”, Quoth he, “than liqueur or liquor”, Making, it is sad but true, In bravado, much ado. Stranger does not rhyme with anger, Neither does devour with clangour. Pilot, pivot, gaunt, but aunt, Font, front, wont, want, grand and grant. Arsenic, specific, scenic, Relic, rhetoric, hygienic. Gooseberry, goose, and close, but close, Paradise, rise, rose, and dose. Say inveigh, neigh, but inveigle, Make the latter rhyme with eagle. Mind! Meandering but mean, Valentine and magazine. And I bet you, dear, a penny, You say mani-(fold) like many, Which is wrong. Say rapier, pier, Tier (one who ties), but tier. Arch, archangel; pray, does erring Rhyme with herring or with

stirring? Prison, bison, treasure trove, Treason, hover, cover, cove Perseverance, severance. Ribald Rhymes (but piebald doesn’t) with nibbled. Phaeton, paean, gnat, ghat, gnaw, Lien, psychic, shone, bone, pshaw. Don’t be down, my own, but rough it, And distinguish buffet, buffet; Brood, stood, roof, rook, school, wool, boon, Worcester, Boleyn, to impugn. Say in sounds correct and sterling Hearse, hear, hearken, year and yearling. Evil, devil, mezzotint, Mind the z! (A gentle hint.) Now you need not pay attention To such sounds as I don’t mention, Sounds like pores, pause, pours and paws, Rhyming with the pronoun yours; Nor are proper names included, Though I often heard, as you did, Funny rhymes to unicorn, Yes, you know them, Vaughan and Strachan. No, my maiden, coy and comely, I don’t want to speak of Cholmondeley. No. Yet Froude compared with proud Is no better than McLeod. But mind trivial and vial, Tripod, menial, denial, Troll and trolley, realm and ream, Schedule, mischief, schism, and scheme. Argil, gill, Argyll, gill. Surely May be made to rhyme with Raleigh, But you’re not supposed to say Piquet rhymes with sobriquet. Had this invalid invalid Worthless documents? How pallid, How uncouth he, couchant, looked, When for Portsmouth I had booked! Zeus, Thebes, Thales, Aphrodite, Paramour, enamoured, flighty, Episodes, antipodes, Acquiesce, and obsequies. Please don’t monkey with the geyser, Don’t peel ‘taters with my razor, Rather say in accents pure: Nature, stature and mature. Pious, impious, limb, climb, glumly, Worsted, worsted, crumbly, dumbly, Conquer, conquest, vase, phase, fan, Wan, sedan and artisan. The th will surely trouble you More than r, ch or w. Say then these phonetic gems: Thomas, thyme, Theresa, Thames. Thompson, Chatham, Waltham, Streatham, There are more but I forget ‘emWait! I’ve got it: Anthony, Lighten your anxiety. IF YOU ARE NOT PAYING THIS TAX YOU NEED TO ADDRESS THE MATTER WITH URGENCY. Q. I have received a letter from the tax office demanding I pay non resident income tax, and that I must pay up for the last four years. I have never made any income from my property.
non -residents not paying this tax. Every year normally using s fiscal representative you should be filing a non-resident hypothetical income tax return (shortly wealth tax also). If you are not paying this tax it is necessary that you take control of the situation by contacting the tax authorities, your solicitor or your tax advisor. If you have doubts regarding if you are already paying this tax it is probably because you are not, as it requires the presentation of a tax form etc
What is this all about?
The good news is that:
A. Our government needs to collect to correct it’s deficit. If you are a NON RESIDENT of Spain and own a property you MUST FILE a non-resident income tax return even if you do not rent out your property. Do not confuse with rates (IBI), which is generally paid by direct debit.
1. The tax is not generally a very high amount.
Towards the end of 2011 the Spanish tax authorities decided to clamp down on non-resident property owners who have not been paying this non-resident income tax. They have created a special task force dedicated to pursue
2. If you have not been paying, by law they cannot demand payment for more than four years back taxes. Our advice: Start paying the tax because if you do not they will be contacting you with the risk of you not actually being hear to receive their letter etc. Michael Davies. Abogado. Margis E-Cigarettes E-Cigarettes provide a new, safer and cheaper alternative to smoking. Millions of people are now ecig users and successfully kicked the smoking habit E-Cigarettes Versus Tobacco We all know that e-cigs are less dangerous to one’s health, cost far less, don’t produce ash, smell better and don’t inflict the dangers of passive smoking on other people…. scientifically proved.
Media Reaction The media report on E-Cigarettes has spread widely and positively across TV, radio and the press.
E-Liquid There has recently been a concerning trend for some e-cig retailers to mix e-liquid to order in the back of their shop, sometimes even while-you-wait. Its hard to imagine that the appropriate level of hygiene can be maintained in these conditions however well intentioned
Buyer Beware It is not my intention to suggest that Margi’s E-Cigs are the only e-cig suppliers who sell quality goods at a fair price, There are many good suppliers available. What is of concern is the substantial and growing number of e-cig sellers who view the public as a profit bandwagon upon which to ride only while the going is good. Some shockingly poorly manufactured e-cigs are being openly sold by unscrupulous market stall holders and none-specialist outlets. It is often the case that poor quality goods are sold with huge extraordinary profits.
Kitchen Sink The growth of ‘Kitchen Sink’ e-liquid production and a door to door service is a potential cause for concern for many reasons. Individuals and sellers are mixing up E-Liquids at home and beginning to market their products even through websites. Inevitably the authorities will take a greater interest in this aspect of vaping safely as its growth is observed. MICRO NEEDLING Beautiful You Clinic Dermapen or micro needling is an electronic device that uses multiple fine needles to vertically pierce the skin. This causes collagen remodelling and enhances skin rejuvenation. Unlike needle rollers, Dermapen uses a precisely-controlled stamping method to reach a set depth in the skin while minimizing excess damage to the epidermis. Clinical Effects: • skin tightening, lifting, rejuvenating • acne scar remodelling • fine wrinkle smoothing • stretch mark flattening and smoothing • scar remodelling Treatment Features: • anti-aging serum is applied during the treatment • aftercare regimen is prescribed • sun avoidance and sun protection is a must after treatment • Minimal discomfort with treatment The Dermapen micro needling device delivery provides unparalleled collagen induction therapy via fractional delivery of needles into the epidermis and dermis. These micro injuries to the skin encourage and harness the power of the body’s innate ability to re-grow and repair the skin through the physiology of collagen induction. The micro needling before and after pictures below are typical of a series of treatments where patients experienced four to six treatments over the space of 2 to six months. Each micro needling before and after treatment is done four weeks apart. Dermapen offers a solution for all skin conditions that clients might seek treatment for: wrinkles and fine lines, acne scarring, stretch

marks, wound healing stimulation, and skin tightening, lifting and rejuvenation. This means you can offer a broader range of treatments for your clients. Dermapen treatments complement other treatment options already offering clients, chemical peels, IPL, Micro-dermabrasion and laser skin tightening. How many treatments are necessary to achieve a good response? Improvements can be seen with each treatment but a series of 3-5 treatments is best to achieve optimal results. How far apart are treatments done? Treatments can be repeated every 4-6 weeks. Is it safe for darker skin types? Since no melanin-absorbing laser and no heat are involved, micro needling is relatively safer than lasers, such as IPL, for darker skin types. Is the treatment painful? Dermapen uses very fine needles and is relatively comfortable it feels like a scratching sensation on the skin. A topical numbing cream is applied prior to treatment. How long is each treatment? For a face, each treatment is 30 to 60 minutes after anaesthetic
cream has taken effect. What are the immediate after-effects? The skin will be pink or red in appearance for a couple of hours following micro skin needling treatment, much like a sunburn, with some minor bleeding and bruising possible, depending on the aggressiveness of the procedure, i.e. the length of needle used for the particular indication being treated and the number of times it is rolled across the treatment area. The skin may also feel warm, tight and itchy for a short while. This should normally resolve in 12 - 48 hours. Side effects or risks are minimal with this type of treatment and typically include minor flaking or dryness of the skin, with scab formation in rare cases. Milia (small white spots) may also form on the skin which can be removed. Hyper pigmentation (darkening of certain areas of the skin) can occur but is very rare and usually resolves after a month. If you have a history of cold sores, this could possibly flare up after treatment. Aci clover, or Virval tablets or cream can be used to stop and outbreak of cold sores. Price - Depends on the size of the area to be treated but range from 70– 150 euros per treatment.

Foreign Tourists Spent Record From Januar
Foreign tourists who visited Spain between January and April spent a record 14,856 million euros, representing an increase of 11.2% over the same period of 2013. Germany, the United Kingdom and the Scandinavian countries were the main source markets that contributed to this increase, and the Canary Islands the biggest beneficiary of this increase in spending, according to the latest Egatur tourism expenditure survey, published by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism. The average expenditure per tourist increased by 1.8% to 968 euros, while the average stay was extended to 8.7 nights. In April alone, the total spending grew by 18.4% year-on-year to 4,790 million euros, due to both the increase in the number of tourists (13.2%), and the average expenditure per trip, which grew by 4.6% (to 910 euros). contrast, the average daily expenditure fell by 2.4% to 108 euros.
The figures are influenced by the fact that Easter this year fell in April, while in 2013 it took place in March. In the first four months of the year, among the main source markets, the Germans spent 14.9% more (2,539 million euros), British tourists spend 12.8% more (2,583 million) and the tourists from the Scandinavian countries spent 13.7% more (1,999 million). French tourists’ spending remained virtually stable, with only a slight increase of 0.4% (1,424 million euros). The Canary Islands remained the main destination of choice for this expenditure, accounting for 31.3% of the total (4,657 million euros) and a yearon-year increase of 17%, while spending in the Balearic Islands dropped by 1.3% (to 935 million euros). FA FASHION AND DANCE SHOW by Susan Ward
Asturias Restaurant, at Punta Prima, was the venue last Wednesday (28th) evening for a fashion and dance extravaganza to raise funds for AFA (Alzheimers Association). The 4 models, Chris, Terri, Tricia and Sue did a wonderful job on the cat walk highlighting the high standard of the donated clothes from the Alzheimers shop in Torrevieja. They each had 6 outfits to showcase ranging from casual and day dresses through to fabulous special occasion evening wear. The audience were very appreciative and complimentary. Kate Moss eat your heart out!! Interspersed with the models were the fantastic ‘Crazy Ladies’ tap dance group. They performed 6 dances, some were old favourites like ‘Tap Your Troubles Away’ and Bye Bye Blackbird but the star was their new closing dance known as ‘Tanz’ It is a real show stopper and has to be precision perfect to work -- which it was! The dancers, under the leadership of Georgie, were - Wilma, Diane W, Liz, Maureen, Christel, Sue, Diane B and Jane. After the show, ladies from the audience invaded the racks of clothes for sale and many - including accessories - found new homes. Thanks go to Jennie and her hard
working crew from AFA. Jennie also gave an enthralling talk on the workings of AFA and also acted, together with Jack, from Crazy Ladies, as M.C. Raffle prizes were donated from many sources and thanks go to those supporters too, and, finally Asturias Restaurant for the use of their premises. The total money raised was a splendid 728 euros and a jolly good time was had by all.

A Russian fat cat is a lot slimmer now - thanks to an exercise regime of intense cycling. Morda - Mush in English - rides along on the neck of his owner Vladimir Ilivanov in Krasnoyarsk Krai, central Russia. And Mr Ilivanov says his pet has lost two kilogrammes from the effort of clinging on to his owner. He bought Morda six years ago and the pair have been inseparable ever since. They have spent the last six years riding through Russian cities and taking part in cycling tournaments. “He doesn’t do much during the winter, but when the spring comes he always rides on the back of my neck. For him it’s like horse riding,” jokes Mr Ilivanov. “He is very sensitive and knows that he can cling on with his legs around my neck

He is registered as ‘Feline 1`and recognised by racing marshals across the country. A spokesman for the Russian Cycling Federation said: “Morda is as well known as any of the top cyclists. “Although he doesn’t push the pedals himself he is known fondly everywhere as ‘the cycling cat’ and always brings a smile to the faces of those who see him.”

Spain to launch 6.3bn euro stimulus package
email: jrsxo@hotmail.com
Spain will unveil a new stimulus package worth 6.3bn euros (£5.1bn; $8.6bn) next week, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has announced. He said the main rate of corporate tax would also be cut to 25% from 30%. The measures are designed specifically to boost the economy’s competitiveness and to create jobs. The Spanish unemployment rate is running at almost 26%, with more than half of the workforce under 24 years of age out of work. “Next Friday, the government will present a package of measures to increase competitiveness and productivity,” Mr Rajoy said. “The plan will include investments totalling 6.3bn euros, of which 2.67bn will come from the private sector and 3.63bn from the public sector.” Reports suggest the package will include credits to small and medium-sized firms, and investments

book review a view from the bridge by Arthur miller
“You won’t have a friend in the world. Even those who understand will turn against you, even the ones who feel the same will despise you.” Miller’s parents were immigrants. His father had a clothing manufacturing business and the family lived in prosperity in America until the Wall Street Crash. Miller became a journalist and he wrote scripts for the radio. During the second world war he worked as a shipfitter in the Brooklyn Navy Shipyard where he sets this drama. Many of the workers were Italian migrant workers and this is probably where Miller made connections for A View from the Bridge, 1955. Miller’s hallmark as a writer seems to display an ability to dramatize the attempts made by characters to find a necessary balance between the conflicting demands of private and public life. New York’s Brooklyn harbour was depicted as a dangerous and mysterious world at the water’s edge during the 40s. The dockworkers and longshoremen were poorly paid and exploited by their bosses. They( the Italians) came for work, wealth and security- things they couldn’t find at home. “They were always hungry, they were offering themselves, but all they were eating was time.” We also have Marco’s comment that his children “eat the sunshine” because they can’t provide food for them. It is likely that Miller’s idea came from a lawyer friend who had told the author about a longshoreman who had ratted to the Immigration Bureau on two brothers, his own relatives who were living illegally
in his own home. His intention was to break an engagement between one of them and his niece. This is what happens in the Bridge. Miller visited Sicily shortly after this where he witnessed groups of men gathering in the piazza desperately looking for any kind of work. Extreme poverty led to the illegal entry into the States for many of them. Bridge was meant to be a modern version of a Greek tragedy where Eddie Carbone, the main character is led by fate towards an inevitable destiny that he is incapable of escaping from. Red Hook, Brooklyn is the slum that faces the bay on the seaward side of Brooklyn Bridge, the gullet of New York. And yet this is where the migrant workers come to seek their fortune! Alfieri is an Italian/American lawyer who narrates the tragic tale as well as advising Eddie. He seems to know what the outcome will be and watches the events unfolding but he is powerless to be able to prevent them. Eddie and his wife Beatrice have raised Catherine as their daughter although she is officially their niece. Catherine is striving for her independence from Eddie who still treats her like a baby even though she is close to 18. He objects to her short skirt and high heels and how she walks wavy as she shakes her hips. He becomes jealous of the attention she gets from the men who recognise her womanhood. Beatrice recognises this obsession for his niece and expresses her frustration at being rejected
physically by Eddie without any justifiable reasons other than, “ I ain’t been feeling good.” Beatrice’s cousins arrive, Marco and his younger brother, Rodolfo. Marco has three young children as well as a wife in Italy and his goal is to earn enough money to support them. He hopes that in 4-6 years he will be able to return to them. Rodolfo is blonde, he sings opera and jazz, can make dresses and cook. Eddie dislikes him from the first moment and thinks he is homosexual. Catherine is besotted with him and Eddie warns her off him by stating that he just wants her in order to gain American citizenship then he will divorce her. He was so welcoming from the beginning and protective of the brothers knowing that if they are caught they will be sent back home. Beatrice retells the story of the boy who snitched on his uncle. His family pulled him down the stairs with his head bouncing like a coconut, spitting on him. The boy had to leave town and never returned. You can quicker get back a million dollars that was stole than a word that you gave away. When Eddie cannot resolve the situation he visits the lawyer who warns him to let Catherine go and give her his blessing. His pride won’t allow this and he is adamant that the punk will not lay his hands on his precious Catherine. Sadly, he pays no heed to the advice. His action results in this great tragedy for all of the major characters. Publisher: Heinemann ISBN: 780-435-233129 REVIEW it by Carol Naylor.

As we review our lives, I’m sure most of us will recall certain experiences or events that dramatically effected the decisions we took. For some this may have stemmed from a particular relationship, whilst for others perhaps, a change of home or job. For me personally the life-changing moment in my career occurred in 1967. I started the year as a fairly mediocre, uninspiring Civil Engineer working for Westmorland County Council, but ended it as a dynamic, enthusiastic and fairly creative software developer in the emerging field of interactive computer graphics. A chance encounter with a computer had discovered some latent ability, and being basically idle, I revelled in the ease with which a machine could undertake immensely complex design calculations with seemingly effortless accuracy and speed that left me speechless. Work had suddenly become fun; and they paid me for it! For Saint Peter, the change appeared even more dramatic. The uninspiring, uneducated fisherman, intimidated by a slave girl into denying any knowledge of Jesus at his trial, is the same person who six weeks later boldly and enthusiastically in their presence denounced the political and religious leaders of the day for crucifying their Messiah, the Son of God. And this wasn’t just a one-off; but in the face of persecution, torture and death, Peter continued in similar vein, with great power and conviction, proclaiming to all that Jesus was alive, had ascended into heaven and would return as Lord and judge of all. So what exactly was the life-changing experience that caused this amazing change in Peter’s character? The Bible puts this down to a single event, as God’s Spirit was given to the apostles, including Peter at Pentecost (June 8thth this year), seen as a flame alighting on them, accompanied by the sound of a violent gale. And it was this force, this power of God Himself that drove and empowered Peter thereafter. And that same power is still available to us Christians today if only we had the courage to avail ourselves of it. Harry’s bar at the top of the hill in Quesada has long been known as one of the friendliest bars in Quesada. Where everybody knows your name! This is no surprise as it has been in the family since 1986. Sadly, the founders Harry and Gill passed away in 2007. Now their daughter Joanne and her partner, whose name just happens to be Harry, are carrying on the family tradition. You can come and enjoy Quiz night on a Monday, relax and listen to the Jammin’ session on Wednesday as 4pm. The kitchen is open every day serving a freshly prepared menu that is both great quality and a great price, from breakfast to panninis, steak to Sunday lunches and heavenly home made desserts, and don’t forget to try one of Harry’s famous Irish Coffees!

In addition, the Group were also trained to administer Oxygen as and when required. The photo shows Gerry Bradshaw, (Head Trainer of FAST) with – Sally Bridges, Gordon Clive, Jacqui Wilkinson, Lee McGovan, June and Terry Kirk and Jackie and Richard Webb. ‘Well Done’ to all of you! and great entertainment. A very special ‘Thank You’ to Nigel for stepping in at the last minute with his ‘ELVIS & FRIENDS SHOW’. Adding to all of this came the news that an amount of: €625.00. had been raised for FAST too! Well done and sincere thanks to everyone who helped make this happen! BIRTHDAY PARTY DARE! Barry Embury recently celebrated his 65th birthday party on Camposol at BAR SALUD. During the evening, one rather shy gentleman called Andy was dared by some, to sing, using the microphone, to the rest of the many invited guests! To everyone’s amazement – he actually and rather bravely, took up this challenge, surprising everyone listening and watching by fulfilling this dare! Adam, the Manager of BAR SALUD promptly gave him €50 for his brave efforts and this was quickly matched by Derek Wilkinson throwing in another €50. ‘Well Done’ Andy for carrying out this dare, who then so generously donated the €100 to FAST! FAST wishes to thank all three for being good and kind sports! Am not quite sure if the recent rumour going round Camposol is true -‘that Andy is taking bookings now’? FAST would like to be informed if so! Website: www.fastcamposol.com for information and details.

in the wire? Why doesn’t it leak out of the holes? I have no idea how this miracle happens, but it does, so I accept it gratefully – I would hate to have to bother to plug up the holes to keep the electricity from getting out every time I unplugged something! Also electricity is very quick, and I doubt I would be fast enough to get the plug plugged before some electricity leaked out – what would happen then? I would have electricity running loose in the house – how would I ever catch it and stick it back in the plug again? But I have made a new and amazing discovery! The Almanzora Group of Friends were heading in the comfort of a coach towards Rodalquilar, in the Cabo de Gata in the company of David, who, although he is a real, proper geologist, is neat, personable and very well presented and
has information and enthusiasm oozing out of every pore. My knowledge of geology is a little less than scant, so I was concentrating hard not to get my metamorphic and plutonic rocks muddled up when he pointed to a mine working. ‘That is where they mine bentonite,’ he said. ‘It is used for a lot of things; drilling, pharmaceuticals, ice cream. I instantly abandoned my metamorphic struggle – What! An ice cream mine? I never knew that! What do you do? Scoop up a shovelful, mix it about a bit, add a few extra ingredients, and presto! You have ice cream? I know all about Soup Dragons, but Ice Cream Mines are new to me! How can I have lived this long and never heard of them? I’m going to get my trowel and a mixing bowl, and at the first opportunity I’m going to go and mine myself josbiggs@hotmail.co.uk some ice cream!

childhood... an outdated concept
How often do you hear from kids these days that they are bored? I get bored listening to it. There seems to be a constant whinging from many of the younger generation that there is nothing for them to do, and the apologists for bad behaviour - aka the politically correct do gooders - are constantly blaming it on the rest of society for not providing this or that for the poor darlings. They have their iPods and a multitude of computer games at their disposal where they can blow people’s heads off and drive fast cars into pensioners crossing the road, and they have television and even their own disposable incomes. But still they are bored and it’s no wonder some say, that they hang around street corners and get up to no good. Their conversational abilities at times can be similar to caterpillars, and yet they can chat for hours on their mobile phones to mates who they will see in school anyway. And is it any wonder, we are told, that for many the bottle is often used as a substitute to alleviate this boredom. Perhaps I’m missing something here, but the alternatives have never really gone away. There is perhaps nothing quite so annoying to the younger generation than somebody like me starting off a sentence with, “When I was a kid”, but it is true that

childhoods in the fifties were halcyon days for most, with the enjoyment of life closely related to the seasons. In the spring the bikes would be taken out of the shed after their winter hibernation, and we would pedal off to collect frogs spawn, climb trees or pick primroses and bluebells for our Mums. Then in the summer we would spend those long weekends at the river or one of the open air swimming baths or catching newts from one of the ponds at the common ten miles away. In the autumn, again on our trusty ‘treaders’, off we went to fill our saddle bags with conkers, which we would take home and selecting the very best, use them in playground conker competitions. And as unlikely as it might sound to the health and safety gestapo, no one ever received a life threatening injury from such an activity as far as I know. Then in winter when the weather meant that we had to stay at home more, we got out the snakes and ladders or jig saws and, perish the thought, get stuck into a good yarn like Treasure Island or Last of the Mohicans. The combined effect of all this was that from practical experience, we learned about the workings of the world around us. In between times, we would wrap up warm and play in the local park or roller skate in the street. There was never an excuse not to be doing something interesting. But the world has moved on and the value of such pursuits has been undermined by the technological age and woolly minded liberals. We live in a push button, designer entertainment society, restricting the imagination and kerbing creative instincts. Mother Nature and what
the countryside has to offer, free and gratis along with the stimulation that old fashioned adventure stories can give, have been relegated to the back burner. In short, our kids and grandchildren are simply not allowed to have proper childhoods and in that sense it really is the fault of society. The emphasis seems to be on encouraging the attainment of adulthood as quickly as possible. Many parents are often too busy or simply not prepared to devote the necessary time to their kids, it’s so much easier to buy them another game for their X-Box or give them a few quid to go and get a Big Mac. More women with children choose to pursue careers in this so called enlightened age, but please don’t tell me that this has no impact on the children. The tragedy of all this, is that although being a child should be a constant adventure with so much to experience, it is all being missed and once childhood years are gone, they are gone forever. If all of the gadgets and marvels of twenty first century science had been available when I was a boy, would I have grabbed them given the chance? You’re damned right I would! It’s human nature and the kids themselves cannot be blamed. So what’s to be done? Well, I really don’t know. I can only take comfort in the fact that life seems to move in cycles and that future generations will perhaps once again appreciate the importance of the childhood years, and allow kids to grow up as nature intended – obnoxious little beggars, but healthy and well balanced. Just like me.

There are certain things in life that you just know. Take electricity, for instance: Somehow it is contained inside a wire, which starts who knows where, but which finishes at a plug in the wall, which has holes (2 of them here in Spain) into which you push the plug for the kettle, light socket, or whatever, thus allowing the electricity to get into the kettle, light socket, or whatever, and create heat, light, or whatever. This happens, I have no idea how, but I accept that it does. I accept that the electricity is in there, in the wire, just waiting for someone to put the plug in for it to do its job. But what keeps it

alqueria The unemployment figure
Of the Alquerian population all are employed in some form or other. They may not do much actual work in their employment with Rodriquez’s olive mill or the thriving Remitroot business belonging to Poyato. They don’t expect to exert themselves to any great extend. Although they live off the income from one of these enterprises. The services they render could be anything from a full day’s work to some simple or menial task. At least that was the case until Alfonso Hagapoco decided to exercise his democratic right to be an unemployment statistic. Alfonso worked as a Remitroot stigma nurdler which involved one hour’s worth of very gentle labour per week, for this he received a fair remuneration. But being of anarchic tendencies, not to mention bone idle he thought he would rather have the whole week to himself. He thought that this was an hour too far and resigned. The Alquerian establishment prided itself on being a government for the people, of the people and by the people. They took it to extremes however. One year the entire adult population ran for the post of president. Everyone received one vote each. This meant a joint presidency consisting of everyone over the age of eighteen, apart from Loco Paco that is. Becoming confused he put his cross next to the printers name. The Madrid printer, Inky Pedro was quite surprised when the letter naming him as joint president of Alqueria dropped onto his mat. Alfonso presented himself at the Town Hall and asked to be registered unemployed. Poyato, who was manning the office at the time was taken aback. There had been no unemployment in Alqueria since it
became a republic. Poyato asked him what job he would like “Abyssinian Goat Shirling instructor to the Dalai Lama” Alfonso replied. He was awarded 2,000,000 Raros per week unemployment benefit that’s about €150.00, three times more that he earned working. The people of Alqueria were quite proud of their sole unemployment figure and Alfonso’s status in the Village mushroomed. They seemed to adopt him as a joint dependent. Treating him to free drinks, meals, and forcing money on him. Admittedly very little actual force was necessary. He was greeted each day with “Morning Alfonso and how goes our unemployment statistic today”. Alfonso Hagapoco never needed to buy food nor drink, the townspeople provided for his every need. By careful money management he soon acquired a tidy pile keeping the cash in a hollow under a kitchen flagstone. His affluence grew and Alfonso started to live a double life. He bought a house across the border in Spain and moved an extremely flashy woman in. He would leave the house every morning, don his much patched clothes and cross into Alqueria to his place of work as an unemployment statistic.
advance moves
Leading Removal Company reports on strengthening housing market One of Spain’s top removal companies has reported that they experienced a resurgence in the Spanish housing market during 2013 and it looks like 2014 will be an even busier year. Mat Ford-Dunn, the Managing Director of ‘Advance Moves International Removals’ pointed to the fact that many property values in Spain have now fallen to a much more realistic level and this has definitely resulted in increased house sales. This has been noticed in all regions of Spain as Advance Moves operate their relocation services throughout the mainland. Advance Moves has its main warehouse in Murcia, Spain, with an additional warehouse in Kent in the UK and has had to purchase 5 new vans and trucks to cope with the increased demand over the past year. The UK housing market is also in a state of recovery and increased house sales have resulted in more people selling up and looking to buy in Spain. There are many factors that
tempt expats to Spain, not least the recent periods of turbulent weather, which many parts of the UK have suffered. On the flip side, for economic reasons many British Expats are now able to sell properties in Spain and Advance Moves are often the first choice when it comes to repatriating them back to the UK. Mat was also keen to point out that the increase in demand for their removal services was also down to the level of service and expertise that Advance moves offer to their clients and the fact that many clients had already seen the brightly liveried vehicles on the roads undertaking their removal services. Advance moves is also a member of the British Association of Removers and one of only a few companies that export wrap furniture to provide extra protection for international removals. ‘Our clients know that they are getting a more competitively priced, premium removal service, when compared to the rest of the market. The increased volume of removals enables Advance Moves to offer their clients a more regular and flexible timetable for their individual removal requirements’ Mat sees the trend continuing throughout 2014 with the housing market in the UK and Spain continuing to make steady process. Advance Moves are gearing up for another busy year.

LA MARINA GOLF SOCIETY FOUNDERS TROPHY A group of 24 members and guests assembled at Alicante golf course to contest the first Founders Trophy kindly donated by founder member Barry Martin as the Society celebrates its 10th year. This was especially poignant for Mike Green, Jimmy Scott & Bill England who are also founder members and still taking very active parts in all activities including this competition . The day was warm with some sunshine but with a promise of wind later. That maybe was reflected in the scoring which was a little lower than normal although many regular users of the course mentioned that the green were unusually slow. The day passed uneventfully and everyone made their way back to La Marina Sports Centre for the prize giving and to enjoy the wonderful food
TMGS Match Report Albacete 28th May 2014 25 members arrived at Las Pinaillas (Albacete) and the temperature guage at the entrance was showing a chilly 11ºc. In addition to the chilly morning, we had a nice smattering of rain and some faces look liked slapped bums as the thought of playing in the rain wasn’t all that appealing to many, however, it was pleasingly nice for the rain to stay away. This is our 3rd visit to this cracking track with faiways like an Axminster carpet and where 55 € paid for the coach, green fee, buggy, competition fee and a rather nice 3 course meal. As in the past 3 years, most found the greens difficult to read and although the course is rather generous in its width, the punishment for straying is fairly harsh. NTP’s were sponsored by Manuel Manzaneque and were won by Jenny Morris, Mick Kennedy, John Eyre and Dag Lovas. There were three that achieved “two’s” and for that feat, Dag Lovas, John Eyre and Bill Starkey received a sleeve of TMGS golf balls.
Scoring on the day was, as usual here, a little on the low side with no-one hitting their handicap and only 5 managed to score 30 or above and one achieving over 30 was Christine Church who claimed the Visitors prize with 32 points. In the Silver Division, John Hillier claimed 4th place with 27 points. Both Ernie Wilson and Colin Marsden scored 28 points with Colin claiming the best back 9 to push Ernie into 3rd place to claim the Runner up prize for himself. This left Jenny Morris’ s 31 points a clear winner in that division. The Gold crew fared a little better and it needed 28 points for Joe Dean to take 4th spot and 3 points better off on 31 was Dag Lovas. The runner up spot went to Alan Rickers with a tidy 33 points, but the best score of the day and the overall winner of the Pinaillas Trophy was Arne Hansson with 34 points. Photo: Gold Category winners including overall winner of the Pinaillas Trophy, Arne Hansson There were a few funny moments, but none can really beat watching a Yorkshireman thrashing about in a water hazard, the sight of Bill Starkey trying to get his ball out of a water hazard was akin to watching Basil Fawlty thrashing his car with the tree branches only more frantically and with a lot more profanity. Our next game is a new venue for the Society, La Marquesa and if you fancy a game on Wednesday 4th of June where for 50 € will get you a game with buggy and a meal afterwards, just visit our website of www.tmgs.org and book yourself in.

ALICANTE GOLF – 27th MAY 2014 Our 3rd visit to this delightful course and it was in excellent condition and there was a lot of greens TLC going on. Due to the tinning of the greens were a tad slow and not easy to read but they did not deter our talented members. With the exception of just two players the lowest score was 29 points and the highest 39 points by Rodney Smith. Welcome to your new handicap Rod!! One of our members had the luck of the Irish with him when his superbly struck tee shot on the Par 3 17th was arrowing for the hole when it ricocheted off the flagstick and into a bunker, Joe McGrath’s colour came back in the knowledge that his wallet was secure. I have to say the course was in great condition from tee’s to fairways to greens. With all but one par 3 above 160 meters could it be a day of missed greens and no presentation of the Vino ?? ROJALES NETBALL CLUB -v- The Irish
They competed against four visiting teams from Ireland on Saturday, 14 May and certainly did themselves proud being the only Club representing Spain. There was some great netball played by all the team in the first game when they took on Co. Antrim and, with Carly and Tracy in fine shooting form, they finished the game with a win of 21-10. The first half of their second game proved more difficult with the defence of Claire and Tracey working tirelessly to break down their opponent’s attack only to see the ball coming straight back at them time and time again. Rojales regrouped for the second half and started to dominate the centre court which led to them winning the game 24-16. After almost a two hour break Rojales were back on court for their third game
against Laganside. This was always going to be their toughest game and even though Rojales had plenty of possession, through the hard work of Katie, Ronnie, Donna and Sophie, the long break seemed to have knocked them sideways and they lost, albeit only by a couple of goals. They got their mojo back for their fourth and final game though with an easy win of 18 goals to 4. Finishing the tournament in second place against overseas teams who play competitively two and three times a week is a fantastic achievement for Rojales and its now onwards and upwards as they start preparations for their own tournament. This is being held in Quesada on 14 June and if you are interested in taking part contact Tracey on 679539995 or come along to a training session at the Norwegian School on a Ken Brooks 645 162 808 - Doug 654 907 247 Tuesday 7pm-8.30pm. info@rapidrepairs.es Rojales Netball Club would like to thank the Town Hall behind zoco sunday market - near quesada for their continued support.

Lo Marabu Golf Society
Lo Marabu Golf Society (in association with Costa Blanca Green Fee Services) at La Peraleja on 29th May 2014. For this month’s meeting a group of 26 players visited the established course at La Peraleja taking advantage of the excellent society deal obtained from Costa Blanca Green Fee Services. Despite recent reports of the poor condition of the course we found it to be in generally good condition allowing for the on-going problems on five fairways but the greens were excellent considering that the were only hollow tined a few weeks ago. We were informed that the course will undertake major repair work on the fairway at the end of May 2014 and we look forward to playing this course again when in excellent condition. The winning scores on the day were as follows: 1st – Winston Blackwood - 35 points 2nd – John Chatham - 35 points 3rd – Dave Bensley – 34 points Best Front/ Back 9 holes – Barry Allsop and Sharon Smith Nearest the Pins – Ken Breeze, Winston Blackwood, Kevin Robinson, Julie Blinston and Mike Probert Dog of a Day Trophy – Dave McGaw After the game we returned to the Lo Marabu, which is located at Dona Pepa, Quesada for a welcome meal prepared by the bar and the prize presentation and we give our thanks for their continued support. Our next fixture is the away trip to Benidorm on 12th & 13th June 2014 followed by the Captain versus ViceCaptain Challenge day at Lo Romero on 26th June 2014. Report by Mike Probert of Costa Blanca Green Fee Services on 966 704 752 or 661 345 931 or see us at our web-site at www.costa-blanca-greenfees.com.

LO CRISPIN GOLF SOCIETY
Spring Cup at Roda - 28.05.14 Our Spring Cup was played on Wednesday and what better course to have it on than Roda, always a favourite on any day, but on a special day, perfect. The only problem with Roda is that the weather is always ‘iffy’ for us and today was no different. Rain was forecast with thunder and lightning, but in the end we only had sprinkles. The wind, usual a factor here, was not much of a problem either, perhaps only the last fourballs suffered. There was some good golf played here, with one imperious golfer in particular taking the honours. At the moment this guy is peerless, playing almost faultless golf and what a pleasure it was to watch. Having said this, the other prize winners had some ‘if only’ tales which would have taken them up to the top, but that is golf. The winner of the Spring Cup 2014 Brian Smith, playing off 7 handicap, he easily scored 39pts 2nd Mark Good 36pts 3rd Bob (Captain) Berry 35pts 4th Dave Norton 33pts NTPs: Rick Knapman holes 2 and 7, Brian (imperious) Smith hole 11 and Dave Norton hole 13. The 2s Club was scooped by Brian Smith and Dave Norton and to finish a most successful day Brian Smith also won the Free Game Draw, way to go Smithy! The prize presentation and dinner were at our Lo Crispin Tavern, where Jose, David and all the staff worked hard to keep us watered and fed. The entertainment for the evening was a series of quizzes, some to do on your own and to keep the evening flowing, Brian Coultate, our Social Secretary , asked a further 30 questions to try and find a winner. The team with the name Number One Golfer won a bottle of wine each. I will leave the winners name to your imagination! Finally a thank you to Dotty Moles for donating some spectacular prizes, they were well received.
