Chinese group buys Ciudad Real ‘ghost’ airport for €10,000
A group of Chinese investors has bought the abandoned airport at Ciudad Real for €10,000 after submitting the only bid for the facility at a court bankruptcy auction. On Friday, Tzaneen International was awarded the land and buildings, including the runway, hangars and control tower at Ciudad Real Central Airport in Castilla-La Mancha – the first major airport to be built in Spain with private investment. Little is known about the investment group except that it was organized to take part in the court auction However, the Chinese group will not control the terminal or the parking areas, according to the terms of the tender. Little is known about the group except that it is an “investment vehicle” registered some months ago in Spain with the sole purpose of taking part in the court-sponsored auction. According to papers filed with the Mercantile Register, the group listed €4,000 in capital from China but stated that members of the consortium include both Chinese and European investors. It also explained that “various Chinese companies” are interested in using the airport as “a gateway to Europe” for their importing businesses. Tzaneen International was the only bidder that came up with the €2 million bond required by the court to take part in the auction. The Ciudad Real facility, also known as Don Quijote Airport, opened with much fanfare in 2008 as the first installation of its kind in Spain built with private capital, at a cost of €450 million. But passenger demand was low and it was finally shut down in 2012. Like the similarly troubled Castellón airport, the complex became a symbol of the wasteful spending that took place during Spain’s construction boom, which came to
an abrupt end with the start of the economic crisis in 2008. In February 2014, the owners tried to put it on the market for €100 million, but soon dropped the price to €80 million before the court stepped in to call an auction. In court papers filed on Friday, the Chinese group explained that it submitted a low bid because it would need to reapply for aviation licenses and spend between €60 million and €100 million to upgrade the facilities. The court had appraised the airport at €40 million but set a minimum offer of 70 percent of this amount – €28 million – for prospective buyers. It also issued a 20-day grace period for other possible bidders to come up with the €28 million. Because August is not included in the period, the deadline for new bids is September 14. But even if other offers come in during this time, the Chinese group will most likely keep the airport by matching or submitting a higher bid, EFE news agency reported. The firm Griffin-Pegasus Airports, which has expressed an interest in purchasing the facility, has said it will challenge the auction on technicalities. Other people and businesses who also expressed an early interest in the airport include the Málaga entrepreneur Francisco José Ortiz, who tried to buy it three times; several Madrid-based firms, and the Chinese group HNA Group Co., which recently purchased a majority share in NH Hoteles. Surfer Mick Fanning escapes shark attack in South Africa
An Australian surfer has made an incredible escape after encountering two sharks during a major competition in South Africa.
was able to “get a punch into its back” and startle it. The event was being broadcast live on television. Footage later cut to Fanning and cocompetitor Julian Wilson, also of Australia, on a rescue boat reliving the incident. The relieved-looking pair then received loud applause from a crowd on the beach.
Mick Fanning was competing in Jeffreys Bay, on the eastern Cape, when one of the sharks approached his surfboard. The final of the J-Bay Open had only just started when Fanning was knocked off his surfboard and into the sea. Fanning, the defending champion, escaped injury. The tournament was called off soon afterwards. “I was just sitting there and I felt something just get stuck in my leg rope, and I was kicking trying to get it away,” Fanning told Fox Sports. “I just saw fins. I was waiting for the teeth.” Fanning, a three-time world champion, said he

Demi Moore ‘in shock’ after man drowns in her backyard pool
Demi Moore said she is stunned and saddened
by the death of a 21-year-old man on Sunday in the backyard pool of a Los Angeles home she owns. “I am in absolute shock,” the 52-year-old actress said in a statement released through her publicist, Heidi Lopata. “I was out of the country travelling to meet my daughters for a birthday celebration when I got the devastating news.” Moore said the death, which occurred at a party held by her assistant in her absence, was an “unthinkable tragedy, and my heart goes out to this young man’s family and friends.” The man, Edenilson Steven Valle, had gone missing for 10 or 15 minutes before his friends

found him floating in the deep end of the pool early on Sunday morning, said Los Angeles County coroner’s Lt Fred Corral. Valle’s family and friends told investigators he didn’t know how to swim, Corral said. Police and paramedics responded to the home in west Los Angeles after a 911 call at about 5.15am. The paramedics started CPR, but Valle was pronounced dead at the scene at 5.30am, Corral said. http://gulfnews.com/
CRIME WATCH SPAIN Bathers ignore red flag warning to cool off. Wind, waves and very strong currents stopped people being able to escape the tremedous heat with a cooling dip in the sea at the start of July. Red and Yellow flags had to be flown in many Alicante’s beaches, but some people decided to ignore the flags and life guards had to act to help the “bravos”, but unfortunately couldn’t help a man aged 62, after suffering a heart attack. Some other men were taken to hospital. Please, please, if you wish to enjoy the beach respect the dangerous flags and keep safe. 90% of bullying victims move schools. The economic crisis had increased situations of abuse in schools because of the loss of teachers and psychologists, and students could be under more pressure at home. Three in four students were affected by some kind of harrasment, verbal of physical attacks, but the main problem is that many cases go un-reported because of shame and fear. Parents on the Costa Blanca are being asked to be more alert and vigilants as to their children’s whereabouts after two attemped kidnapping in the Benidorm area. Parents be aware. When going out or coming in please look around, and if you see any suspicous people or car please discretly report it to the Police Tel. 092 or Guardia Tel. 062. Please don’t carry too much money, Visas or important documents with you. Recently many passports have been reported stolen, and when hiring a car please get rid of the back sticker. Please don’t entertain any suspicious people at the filling stations, supermarkets or markets. Jose Rivero Santana Vecinos Colaborando Costa Blanca Email: colaborando.crimewatch@skynetlink.com

Strictly Come Dancing is admirable, John Whittingdale says
Bill Cosby reportedly paid women to keep affairs secret Bill Cosby reportedly said in sworn testimony a decade ago he had paid women after sex to keep the affairs from his wife and suggested he was skilled at understanding nonverbal clues for sexual consent and called an accuser a liar. The New York Times reported the revelations Saturday after obtaining a copy of a transcript from a deposition Cosby gave in lawsuit filed by a former employee of Temple University who alleges he drugged and molester her. The Associated Press obtained excerpts from a deposition last month that revealed Cosby admitted he procured Quaaludes with the intent of giving them to young women he wanted to have sex with. Cosby told lawyers for Andrea Constand, who worked at Temple and brought the suit, that he was a “pretty decent reader of people and their emotions in these romantic sexual things,” according to the transcript obtained by the Times. Cosby said he offered to pay for Constand’s education and paid another woman who he had met in 1976. He said he funneled money to one of the women he had sex with through his agent so his wife wouldn’t find out. The comedian said he figured his wife would have found out eventually that he was helping her with furthering her education, though Constand never sought any money from him. However, Cosby said, “My wife would not know it was because Andrea and I had sex,” according to the newspaper. The case was settled on confidential terms. Cosby has continually denied accusations made by dozens of women who claim he sexually assaulted
them. He has never been charged with a crime, but the accusations have shredded his image of a good-guy, fatherly figure. At points during the deposition, Cosby also described his sexual encounters with the women in detail. The deposition also paints Cosby as emotionally charming, but he also spoke about disregarding relationships to pursue other women. He suggested he was skilled at understanding women and nonverbal cues signaling sexual consent. Cosby said he sparked a relationship with Costand in the early 200s and invited her to his house and had conversations about her family and plans for future education. The relationship between the two continued for several years until Costrand claims he drugged and molested her in his Pennsylvania home. Bruce Castor, the suburban Pennsylvania prosecutor who declined to bring charges in the Constand case a decade ago, told the AP earlier this month that if he is elected again he would review the unsealed court documents to see if Cosby committed perjury. h t t p : // www.foxnews. com/
Strictly Come Dancing is an “admirable” example of where the BBC took a risk on a show that was not guaranteed to be a hit, the culture secretary has said. John Whittingdale was speaking on BBC One’s The Andrew Marr Show after launching a debate on what types of programmes the BBC should make. Of Strictly, he said: “The BBC took a risk. It paid off well and it has achieved a mass audience. “And that seems to me admirable if you can do all those things.” The government published a Green Paper on the future of the BBC on Thursday, including the question of whether the corporation should be “chasing ratings” or delivering “distinctive, quality” programmes that are unavailable on other channels. That has led to some suggestions that the BBC could stop showing Saturday night light entertainment programmes. Asked about the difference between Strictly and the BBC’s long-running Generation Game, Mr Whittingdale said: “Saturday night has always been a time when families sit around the television and we traditionally have had light entertainment shows. “In many ways, Strictly Come Dancing is the successor to The Generation Game. “But Strictly was perhaps, at first sight of the commissioning editor, not necessarily a show which was going to be as successful as it has proved to be. “So I think the BBC took a risk. It paid off well and it has achieved a mass audience. And that seems to me admirable if you can do all those things. “But, of course, in the age when you and I were sitting watching The Generation Game, the amount of choice available was extremely limited. “At that time there were probably only about three channels, whereas now you’ve got 50, 60,
70 to choose from.” ‘Surprised’ at response Before becoming culture secretary, Mr Whittingdale had told the Guardian newspaper that it was “debatable” whether there was a public service argument for the BBC making Strictly. The show should certainly not compete for viewers with X Factor on ITV, he told the paper. On Sunday, Mr Whittingdale told Andrew Marr he was a “huge admirer” of the BBC. But he said he was “a little surprised that the BBC expressed such disappointment at the Green Paper”. He said the document was “just a series of questions with no answers as yet decided”. Resignation call The Green Paper comes as the government prepares to negotiate with the BBC over the terms of the corporation’s next royal charter, which will come into force at the start of 2017. Almost 30 celebrities, including Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench, have signed a letter warning against creating “a diminished BBC”. But some of the signatories have revealed that they were asked to sign by BBC executives. Conservative MP Andrew Bridgend told the Sunday Express the BBC’s director of television Danny Cohen should resign over the matter because it broke the BBC’s lobbying guidelines. However the BBC said its guidelines did allow it to lobby on matters of broadcasting policy. In his interview on Sunday, Mr Whittingdale did not refer to the row but said he “fully agreed with” most of the letter’s contents. He added: “I admire the BBC. The last thing I want to do is undermine the BBC.”
New ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2’ Teaser Is All Kinds Of Intense The rebellion is getting closer.
Another day, another teaser for “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.” In the latest 15-second clip, we get another look at the rebellion led by Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). Wearing her signature braid, the heroine walks through the center of Panem as thousands of rebels follow behind, stopping to watch as she draws her bow and prepares to fire a deadly arrow. We also see a little glimmer of President Snow via a single white rose -- his signature -- in his garden. The teaser comes just one week before another (yes, another) full trailer is scheduled to be released worldwide. It also follows the release of the film’s Comic-Con trailer, which shows a stylized version of the rebellion troops practicing with their weapons. Can the film just come out already? The excessive promo is killing us.

Under-16s no longer allowed to marry in spain
Previous legislation permitted 14-yearolds to wed on a case-by-case basis Youths under 16 years of age will no longer be allowed to marry in Spain. The Voluntary Jurisdiction Law, which goes into effect on July 23, raises the minimum legal marriage age and eliminates the possibility of a judge allowing 14-year-olds to wed on a case-by-case basis, as the previous legislation permitted. Under the new rules, only emancipated over-16s will be allowed to marry. We’re in the 21st century and it’s normal for young people to marry later” Marriages where one or both partners are legally still children have been declining steeply since 1975. The peak year since then was 1979, when there were 2,837 unions of this type. In most of those cases, the minors were girls who married older men. By comparison, over the last 14 years just 365 under-16s have entered into wedlock. Carlos Martínez-Almeida, president of advocacy group Childhood Platform told news agency Europa Press that even though the number of marriages involving under-18s these days was statistically “irrelevant,” the law would place “one more hurdle in the way of occasional but enormously serious practices such as forced marriage.” “It expands the protection of children in Spain, preventing abuse against minors by adults, facilitating the fight against pedophilia and forced marriages,
and making national legislation more coherent with the Convention on the Rights of the Child,” he added. The change comes accompanied by an alteration to the penal code that raises the minimum age of consent in Spain from 13 to 16. The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child and the Council of Europe had repeatedly asked Spain to raise this age, which was the lowest in the whole of the EU. Sara Giménez, director of the equal rights department at the Gypsy Secretariat Foundation, supports the new threshold because “it is an age limit that brings us in line with other European countries.” Although couples from Roma communities traditionally marry younger than other groups in Spain, “it is reasonable to make it 16 because that is an age when people are able to make their own informed decisions,” added Giménez. Mariano González, manager of the Roma Union of Madrid, also welcomed the new rules. “We’re in the 21st century and it’s normal for young people to marry later,” he said. “In past decades, it was normal for any couple, whether Gypsy or not, to marry younger. Although our own tradition is what it is, now we are marrying later. This law is a step forward for the times we live in.” Elpais.com

Lightning starts 13 forest fires in Castellón and Valencia
Ban pickpockets from living in city, says Alicante police force
POLICE in Alicante want injunctions imposed on pickpockets who reoffend, saying they are tarnishing the coastal city's image as a world-renowned tourism destination. They also want to see supermarkets and department stores bring private prosecutions against bag-snatchers. Pickpockets who have committed offences more than once should be banned from living in the city, say the judicial police.
LIGHTNING strikes inland have caused 12 forest fires in the province of Castellón and another in Valencia.
of which was not brought under control until just before 07.00hrs this morning.
Thunder storms yesterday (Saturday) evening had the fire brigade working flat-out after flames broke out near small towns and villages in rural parts of the Comunidad Valenciana’s northernmost province.
Another inferno caused by a lightning strike went up yesterday evening in Venta del Moro, a hinterland village in the province of Valencia close to the border of that of Cuenca, Castilla-La Mancha.
Planes and helicopters were drafted in to deal with blazes in Cinctorres, Xert, Morella, Vallibona, Torrechiva, Vistabella, Benafigos, Tirig, Cirat, Alcalá de Xivert, Segorbe and Cervera del Maestre – the latter

Meetings with the provincial prosecution service and with chairman of the court for the province of Alicante, Vicente Magro, this week raised the thorny subject of serial bag-snatchers and scams such as asking random customers in shops to reach for items off high shelves and pinching their wallets whilst they were distracted. Head prosecutor Jorge Rabasa says in Alicante city alone, up to 30 pickpocketing incidents a day are reported. Spain's new Penal Code means judges are obliged to send details of any crime to a central court register held by the ministry of justice so that the number of offences an individual commits can be tracked.
On the third pickpocketing attempt, this will normally mean a prison sentence of between one and three years, but for a first sentence the accused does not have to serve a custodial term if this is less than two years. Where bag-snatchers continue on the loose as a result, Magro, Rabasa and the city police believe the offender should be given an injunction preventing him or her from approaching their area of criminal operation or other parts of the city where they could strike. If the extent of the crime is more serious, the thief should be served with an injunction banning him or her from living in the city altogether. This could be the case where a known thief is seen entering a shop or retail park he or she had been banned from going near by the court, even if the person had no intention of committing a robbery. If Alicante goes ahead and is able to impose injunctions and order pickpockets to move to another area, it is likely other provinces, especially their capital cities, will follow suit. http://www.thinkspain.com/

Spanish racers die in US motorbike horror crash
Two Spanish motorbike riders were involved in a multi-bike crash during the MotoAmerica superbike race in Laguna Seca, central California, on Sunday. Dani Rivas, 27 from Galicia and Bernat Martínez, 35, from Valencia were taking part in the World Superbike race on Sunday when they were both involved in a first lap crash. “A chain-reaction, multi-bike incident on the first lap of today’s second MotoAmerica Superbike/Superstock 1000 race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has resulted in the deaths of two competitors,” MotoAmerica, which was supporting the event, said in a statement. Martínez was taken from the raceway by ambulance to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP) in Monterey, where he
died from his injuries, while Rivas was transported by air ambulance to Natividad Medical Centre in Salinas where he also succumbed to his injuries. “I really don’t have any words to describe what we all feel,” said MotoAmerica president Wayne Rainey. “First and foremost, is the loss to the families and loved ones. Our sincere condolences goes out to each and every one of them as well as the MotoAmerica family. They are in our thoughts and prayers.” “We are deeply saddened to learn the news of the passing of Bernat Martínez and Daniel Rivas,” said Gill Campbell, CEO and general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “Our prayers and hearts go out to their families and teams.” thelocal.com

Both individuals and businesses can support local businesses, all you have to do is: ...whenever you can, buy from a local business as opposed to buying outside of your region. These days, when most people do the majority of their shopping in giant supermarkets, out of town shopping complexes or city centre malls, it can be difficult to draw attention to a small business trading locally. But with concerns being raised over community cohesion, social inclusion and the environment, the local business has never been more important. It’s down to enterprising business owners like you to promote the importance of supporting local businesses so that the public understand why it matters and how it can benefit whole communities. In order to tackle the trend toward supermarket shopping, it’s important to understand why people choose it. Research indicates that the reasons they most frequently cite are the variety of products available and the convenience of having them all in one place.

Do you support local businesses? Challenge this directly through poster campaigns and advertisements which emphasise the variety offered by small independent businesses, contrasted with the way that monopolies tend toward homogenisation. Remind people how convenient it is to have a lot of small shops offering different products and services located in the area, and how convenient it is to be able to shop close to home. It’s okay to admit that big business has the edge in some areas if you stress that there’s a cost to this. For instance, you could have a poster featuring a pint of milk which acknowledges that it’s cheaper in the supermarket but points out how much less time is spent if it can be picked up nearby, so that it still pays to shop locally. If your business purchases its products locally, it’s worth emphasising this - shopping with you means supporting local producers and cutting down on the environmental costs of long distance transport. If you sell food, it also means getting fresher produce. You can also point out that local businesses mean local jobs and increased opportunities for local people, encouraging the young to stay in the area and become positively involved with the community. It cuts out the daily commute for many people and makes their working lives more pleasant

How to help your garden survive the heatwave The hot weather is glorious, but our gardens may soon be suffering. Helen Yemm gives her top tips for keeping your plants happy.
For the first couple of weeks we – and our gardens - absolutely revelled in it all. But with the serious prospect of yet more extraordinary heat now on the horizon, anxiety is beginning to creep in. When an anxious email from Diane Purkiss pinged into my inbox, it came as no surprise: How do you stop your garden from dropping dead in the heat, she asks. First, let’s not forget that we started this latearriving summer with more-than- adequate water already in the soil (thanks to all the rain last year) and if we applied moistureretaining mulches early in the spring, as we are all supposed to do, they should be doing just that. Even so, some plants are showing signs of stress, so the following list of priorities may be helpful. Plants in containers are most vulnerable, especially small ones containing annuals. Group them together in the shade. When the

weather returns to normal, kick-start a fresh performance with a “haircut” and a feed. Concentrate on applying water slowly to the big immovable and important things - tubs of camellias, hydrangeas, acers and other woodlanders that hate hot roots. If the butt water they prefer is running short, tap water won’t harm them in the short or medium term. Soft fruit should be high on your list of priorities, and also vegetable crops that need water in order to swell – courgettes, tomatoes, potatoes, onions etc.2 Newly planted trees, shrubs and perennials will appreciate a slow drench (at least half a big watering can each) once every few days to encourage them to make deep roots. So resist the temptation to give them less water more often. Scrape away mulches before you water and replace them afterwards. Don’t panic Droughted lawns always green up

again when it eventually rains – so don’t water them. Even established plants may wilt at midday in extreme heat, but are unlikely to die. Make a mental note to mulch more next spring. Finally Water slowly and thoroughly in the cool of the evening so that everything stays moist for as long as possible. Aim your watering can or hose (preferably with a rose attachment), at the soil around each plant rather than at leaves, and water deeply an area about the size of each plant’s “canopy”. Foliar feeds (applied via a watering can or hose diluter to the leaves of plants) are helpful for stressed and flagging specimens. We gardeners, however, may do better on a tall glass of Pimms - and let’s remember to enjoy our gardens while the sun lasts. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/ Creations of Gardens and Re-style

Could a glass of blackcurrant juice keep your brain young? Tests suggest blackcurrant juice could improve mental performance and even help alleviate the symptoms of brain disorders such as Parkinson's Brain food: blackcurrant juice can apparently make you more mentally agile Photo: Alamy A daily glass of blackcurrant juice could make you happier, more mentally agile and even help alleviate the symptoms of brain disorders such as Parkinson's, scientists have found. Researchers at New Zealand science company Plant & Food Research, working in collaboration with Northumbria University in the UK, organised a one-off study in which 36 adults were given either 250ml of blackcurrant juice, 250ml of blackcurrant extract or a placebo drink, before participating in a series of challenging metal performance tests. The scientists found that by consuming either of the blackcurrant drinks, “attention and mood were
improved while mental fatigue was reduced”. The juice, which came from a variety of New Zealand blackcurrant called ‘Blackadder', appeared to reduce the activity of a group of enzymes called monoamine oxidases, which regulate the brain’s levels of serotonin and dopamine – two chemicals which can affect mood and brain function. The scientists believe that blackcurrants could therefore be used to help treat patients with neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s. Crystal Haskell-Ramsay of Northumbria University said "This study is particularly exciting in that not only is it the first to demonstrate benefits to mental performance following blackcurrant consumption, but it is also the first to show benefits to mental performance following any berry in healthy young adults." The research has been published online in the Journal of Functional Food. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/

Mind Healing Mindfulness can let you down Suggesting that mindfulness is the answer to all distress and a stand-alone cure has left many patients disappointed. But used as a starting point, it can lead to better understanding of the problem Mindfulness is everywhere, and we hear that it can sort out just about anything—anxiety, depression, insomnia, even heart disease. Why then do a growing number of my patients, having tried mindfulness, tell me how disappointed they feel? Why do I hear comments like this: 'I tried mindfulness, but I just can’t fit it into my schedule. 'I took a mindfulness course, but I still have all the same problems.’ The fault, I’m afraid, lies with us, with therapists. When a new and promising technique is introduced, we tend to get over-excited about what it can offer and we start promising too much. We also have a tendency to package up the technique, to create one set of easy instructions so anyone can do it. That, I’m afraid, is what’s happening with mindfulness. By suggesting that this technique is the answer to all distress, we set it up to disappoint. And by suggesting there’s only one 'right’ way to do it, we’re in danger of sabotaging its true value. Mindfulness should not be seen as a stand-alone cure for mental anguish. It merely acts as the starting point for sorting out whatever is troubling you. When patients come to me with their worries and problems, the first step we always take is to become aware of exactly what we’re dealing with. What does that bad habit, those self-critical thoughts, look like precisely? Mindfulness can show us. It can also take us further. When you’re mindful, you become aware of what triggers your habits and thoughts. You also start to notice how other people react in those same situations, thus offering you choices. Learning to be mindful opens your eyes and your mind. It’s not in itself the solution to your problems, but it is the necessary first step.

Nor should we try to box up mindfulness into one 'right’ way of doing it. Each of us is an individual, so there will be no one approach that suits everyone. If you wish to take a course on mindfulness or buy a CD or app, fine. But once you understand the technique, you need to make it your own. What, then, does it mean to be truly mindful? Whenever you can, become aware of your breathing. When we’re busy and stressed, most of us breathe too shallowly and too quickly. Start breathing more slowly, in through your nose and out through your mouth. After a couple of calming breaths, your mind should immediately feel clearer. Now look around you. Forget for a moment your plans for tomorrow, and stop rehashing everything that happened yesterday. Become aware of the present moment—of your own thoughts, of the scents, sounds, images, and other people around you. Don’t judge them. Simply observe. Do this as often you can. These open-minded, detailed observations will allow you to see your problems realistically, in proper perspective. As a result, you’ll have the best chance of finding workable solutions. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/

celebrate!!
J u s t in case you are inclined to celebrate, I think that I should give you plenty of warning ahead of the big day on September 26. It was on that day, 60 years ago, that Birdseye Fish Fingers first went on sale in the UK. Well okay, you may not be able to remember what you were doing that day, it may not have had the impact of other seismic world events, such as the airing of the first Captain Pugwash episode, or Sandie Shaw winning the Eurovision Song Contest, but it’s an anniversary of sorts and it was lunch-changing for many a young child! But that got me thinking about the importance of those special days we all enjoy celebrating with family and friends. With that in mind, here are some anniversaries you may not have celebrated, but which are perhaps deserving of your consideration. The first one is a good one to remember. “I Forgot Day” was brought about to help the hundreds, if not thousands, of people who realise, much too late, that they forgot something important. If that’s you, then July 2 is the day to ring in your calendar. It is
then that you can legitimately send an I Forgot Day cardapparently one exists-to the people whose special day you forgot. Actually it ties in quite well with another special day. National Nude Day. You just knew that there would have to be one of those didn’t you? If for, previously unaccountable, reasons you happen to go out shopping or to work and forget items of clothing, rather than blame advancing years, a surfeit of liquid refreshment, or “I Forgot Day”, you can tell people you thought it was National Nude Day. In case you were planning to celebrate it, this day falls on July 14. At least whoever began this tradition had the good sense to have it in the summer, although it originated in New Zealand, where, at that time of the year, the snow can be pretty thick on the ground. Not that kiwi person’s finest hour. Curiously enough, that same day is also scheduled for “National Pandemonium Day”. On that day all sorts of unexpected things are likely to occur. I did wonder if the two are connected. I suppose that, as July is also earmarked as “Anti Boredom Month”, then a little naked pandemonium might just be no bad thing!

Spain chosen as site of planet’s largest gamma ray telescope
San Roque Observatory in the Canary Islands wins vote to host Cherenkov Telescope Array The largest gamma ray telescope in the world is to be located in the Canary Islands. The 14 countries involved in the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) have decided on the island of La Palma, which sits on the western edge of the Spanish archipelago, some 250 kilometers off the coast of Morocco. “We have won,” said Rafael Rebolo, director of the Canaries Astrophysics Institute (IAC) on July 16 from Berlin, where the voting took place. “We are very happy because this is a strategic European installation and the fact that it is coming to Spain is an extraordinary scientific opportunity,” he added. This is a strategic European installation and the fact that it is coming to Spain is an extraordinary scientific opportunity” Rebolo said the vote was 10 to four in favor of Spain. A second telescope is to be located in Chile. Aside from Spain, other countries taking part in the project are Germany, Austria, Brazil, France, Italy, Japan, Namibia, the Netherlands, Poland, the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, South Africa and Switzerland. Following the decision in Berlin, negotiations will now begin with companies and institutions from both
countries to build the observatories. Mexico and Namibia are the alternative locations for the giant telescopes, according to the CTA. The gamma ray telescopes will be located at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory in La Palma. A similar observatory in the southern hemisphere will complete the project, estimated at a cost of €200 million, and which aims to be ready by 2020. The northern observatory will cost around €90 million, says the CTA. Spain’s government has promised to provide €40 million, most of which will come from EU funds for regional development. The CTA captures gamma ray energy, the most powerful in the universe. Until now, such telescopes have only been able to map 10 percent of the sky along this wavelength. The CTA will offer 10 times more precision than current instruments, and aims to investigate the origin of cosmic rays, the composition of dark matter, and some of the most violent objects in the universe, such as black holes. “The Canary Islands, which provide an extraordinary sky for observation, along with first-class infrastructure, are a world power in astronomy, and will see their position boosted with this new network of telescopes,” says Carmen Vela, Secretary of State for the Economy Ministry’s Research & Development &
Innovation department in a press note. A similar observatory in the southern hemisphere will complete the project, estimated at a cost of €200 million El Roque will be the location of some 20 telescopes of different sizes. The biggest will have a primary mirror with a 23-meter diameter, and all are being designed by a team of universities and research institutes in Japan, Italy, France, Germany, Brazil, India, Sweden and Croatia, which are working with Spanish teams from the University of Barcelona, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE), and the Center for Energy, Environmental and Technology Research (CIEMAT), located at Madrid’s Complutense University. Teams from the IAC, the Science Council’s Institute of Space Sciences, and the University of Jaén are also taking part. The San Roque Observatory is home to the MAGIC (Major Atmospheric Gamma Imaging Cherenkov Telescopes) telescopes that detect particle showers released by gamma rays. elpais.com

Visiting andulucia
in the Summer You can travel to Andulucia during the summer low season if you plan for the heat, establish reasonable expectations and imitate Andalusian habits during your stay. The Iberians, the Romans and the Moors dealt with the climate by developing appropriate customs, and you should, too. In addition to getting a first-hand feel for the climate, you'll have the chance to experience the benefits of gazpacho , siestas , Spanish nightlife and swimming pools. If you're here in the summer, you'll also have the opportunity to choose from concerts and take part in other cultural events that take place after 10:30pm , when temperatures start to drop and a breeze blows down from the Sierra. Whether you are in Andulucia , Las Vegas , Cairo , Phoenix or Rome , the following tips will keep you in shape for sightseeing. And remember: think cool!
How to deal with the Andalusian heat like a pro:
Dress adequately . At over 90ºF, jeans, thick t-shirts and closed shoes become uncomfortable. Try to bring loose, light, cotton or linen clothing. Good walking sandals are ideal, or summer shoes with thin, low-cut socks. Start early . Have a good breakfast and get your sightseeing in from 9am and about 1pm--do your walking itineraries earlier (especially in more open areas), and leave the Mosque and museums for later. Taxi! If you have been exploring a long way from where you want to finish at mid-day, and you aren't looking forward to a long walk back when shade is getting scarce, treat yourself to an air-conditioned taxi to squeeze more out of your daylight sightseeing hours. Don't dehydrate . Carry a bottle of water with you and drink regularly . Locals insist on the danger of drinking ice-cold liquids when you're hot. Keep to the shade . Stay out of the direct sun whenever possible while sightseeing. Do like the locals and take advantage of the narrow, twisty streets and walk on the shady side. If there are porticos or awnings , walk under them. Think of the sun in terms of total daily exposure, and be conservative about the doses you take. If you overheat, splash yourself with water from a fountain. Lunch late . Have lunch at 2:30 or 3:00pm with everyone else. If you can't wait that long, have a tapa to hold you over so that you can make the most of the morning hours. Be careful with excessive alcohol, which throws off your body's thermostat.

Thermometer shock: does it really partially ther in the northern latitudes, with inland If you're used to mild summer wea ers, show al sion occa and 0ºF 60-8 een rnoon cloudy skies, temperatures betw ture readings at 3 o'clock in the afte ent cem Andalusia can be a shock. And but first get informed about how
Swimming PooI tans . If you want to get a tan, use a good sun block and cool off frequently in a swimming pool in the afternoon and early evening, once your sightseeing is finished. Don't spoil your evening fun and the next day's activities with a throbbing headache or a searing sunburn. Get inside . At 4pm nobody is walking along those narrow, whitewa shed streets, and neither should you. It's siesta time and after lunch there's nothing better to recharge your batteries and forget the worries you left at home than to get in a good nap, with the blinds drawn. Specialists say that the light 10-15 minute variety are the best, but in the summer people tend to sleep longer to make up for late nights and early starts. Enjoy the Sierra . The foothills just above Cordoba are several degrees cooler than the city center because of the difference in altitude and the relative absence of cement. At night a cool breeze blows. A ten-min ute taxi ride from the RENFE station or Colon Park area will get you to cooler elevations. If you want to spend the hottest hours lounging in the shade near a pool, the Rusafa Parador is a high-class operation with daily pool passes for non-guests at €10. Abundant grass, shade and lounge chairs, along with a large pool make it a pleasant experience. There is a snack bar at the poolside. You may even want to get a hotel in the Sierra and take a taxi to the city center for sightseeing. In the evening, many people drive up to the sierra neighborhood to dine or have a drink. Go for an evening promenade . Traditionally, after 8pm is the time for socializing by taking a stroll in circles around the village squares . Things have changed in the past 100 years, but once it cools off, it's time to get out and stretch your legs. People are out until 2am taking the air. A good place to take walks is the RENFE park promenade, with its abundant fountain s, and the Ribera river walk, on the north bank of the river. Go to an outdoor concert . Take in evening concert s and activitie s out of doors. If you're here in July, go to concert s in the Alcazar gardens or check with tourist information for other events. Take in the nightlife . Enjoy a drink out of doors. Remember that you can have a siesta to make up for the sleep you're losing http://w ww.info cordob a. com/

SOLTIMES PROPERTY SUPPLEMENT
THE ONLY PROPERTY SUPPLEMENT ON THE COSTAS!!!! LOOKING TO BUY OR RENT? FIND YOUR DREAM HOME INSIDE! Housing Values Fell 3.1% in Q2
The average price of new and used housing in Spain stood at 1,284 euros per square metre in the second quarter of the year, according to the latest data from the Sociedad de Tasación, which represents a decline of 3.1% over the same period in 2014, and a fall of 2.4% compared to the previous quarter. Thus, the average price of housing has accumulated a decline of 46.5% from the maximum values reached in 2007, when it stood at 2,401 euros per square metre. During the first half of the year, the drop in housing prices is more pronounced in the homes of low quality (-9.1%) than in the homes of average quality (-2.5%), while the high quality housing recorded a decline in values of 1.3%. The real estate confidence index prepared by the appraisal company continues to show an upward trend,
rising by more than two points in a quarter, to 49.5 points, placing it very close to the neutral position of 50 points, and continues the progressive growth shown in the index during the last two years, since the minimum registered in the last quarter of 2012. The index is formed from the opinion of more than 600 professionals on economic-real estate aspects of the areas where they carry out their professional activities. El Mundo reported that, according to the index, the improvement observed during the past 10 consecutive quarters appears to confirm the upward trend with respect to certain areas considered in the survey, such as improved confidence in the evolution of the economy and real estate sales. thinkspain.com
The stock of unsold Spanish property fell by 5% last year
Bargain hunters eat into the vast pool of unoccupied homes in Spain. There is some doubt over the exact number of unsold and unoccupied residential properties in Spain at the moment, with different sources sometimes producing significantly different estimates, but the latest data [Image: The stock of unsold Spanish property fell by 5% last year] provided by the Ministry of Development at least suggest that the number fell during 2014. The figure of 535,734 properties at the end of last year is still a high one, as inevitably it has to be given the excess supply which resulted from the construction and property boom in the early years of this century, but nonetheless it represents an encouraging 5% decrease on the total from the year before. An idea of the effect of the boom and slump in the market can be gained by reviewing how the stock of unoccupied homes has grown and shrunk in recent years: in 2005 there were 195,000 homes waiting to be occupied, but by 2009 the figure had risen to almost 650,000 as interest from buyers tailed off sharply while construction projects were completed. Since then construction has ground to an almost complete standstill – only now is it sparking back to life in some areas – and the total has thus fallen by 17.5% to its current level. The report issued by the government also shows that the pool of available new properties decreased in size in all of Spain’s 17 regions, with the decrease
amounting to over 20% in Extremadura, Cantabria and Navarra. However, it has to be said that these three regions were barely affected by the speculation of the boom, and the totals being dealt with here are very small ones: in both Extremadura and Cantabria the official figures show that there are now no new unoccupied properties left at all! This contrasts sharply with the situation in the Comunidad Valenciana, where there are still 98,087 unoccupied properties, Andalucía (85,081), Catalunya (82,753), Castilla-La Mancha (45,126) and Madrid (41,540): these five regions account for almost two thirds of the national total. It is noticeable that in geographical terms most of the highest totals are in provinces which are on the eastern Mediterranean coast. Figures of over 20,000 are reported in Barcelona, Alicante, Castellón, Valencia, Murcia and Almería, as well as in Madrid and Toledo. The bottom line is that over 1 in 50 (2.1%) of all residential properties in Spain are still unoccupied, with the highest percentages being those reported in the provinces of Castellón (6.45%), Almería (5.47%), Toledo (5.39%) and La Rioja (4.73%). In terms of regions, apart from the uni-provincial one of La Rioja, the highest percentages are those of CastillaLa Mancha (3.57%), Murcia (3.18%) and Valencia (3.1%), while of course the lowest proportions are the 0% figure achieved in Extremadura and Cantabria.

MAPPED: Could YOUR home see its value COLLAPSE due to fracking? FRACKING is set to wipe £75 BILLION off the value of Britain's homes, a shock report has revealed.
Leading property experts have voiced fears the controversial drilling technique could bring the housing market close to COLLAPSE in large parts of the country. The Government looks set to grant licenses for energy companies to explore up to 65 per cent of rural Britain in the search for underground natural gas. That could see millions of people living in and around drilling sites lose up to 30 per cent off the value of their homes, including some of the country’s best known celebrities. Fracking is a hugely controversial technique for extracting natural gas from under the ground. Critics have warned that the drilling destabilises the Earth and causes tremors and subsidence, which could damage people’s homes for miles around. There have been reports of potential buyers pulling out of deals after discovering that fracking could take place nearby. Despite this, the Government has granted exploration and drilling licenses to fracking companies near some of Britain’s most exclusive neighbourhoods and best-loved beauty spots. A leading property expert has warned that if property prices slump by just two per cent in areas earmarked for drilling, the total cost to the UK economy would be £75 billion. Ray Boulger, from leading mortgage adviser John Charcol, said: “Perception is everything in the property market and from the limited evidence already available it is clear that there will indeed be a negative impact on house price valuations in areas with the prospect of fracking happening. “The prospect of fracking in your area is a bit like putting a motorway or railway, like HS2, through your front garden - it’s going to have an impact on the valuation of your property”. He added: “A commercial business which engages in an activity which has a demonstrable effect on residential or other commercial property values should be required to compensate property owners affected in the same way as compensation is paid when this happens as a result of a new road
or railway”. A Government paper on the effects of fracking had previously estimated that homes within a mile of drilling sites could expect to lose up to seven per cent of their original value. However in Lancashire, buyer panic about proposals to frack countryside sites saw 50-100 per cent write-offs in some areas. The local council has just rejected an application to explore parts of the county for natural gas. However, others have previously raised fears that prices could plummet Prestbury contains Britain’s most by as much as 30 per cent - the same expensive street outside the south drop homeowners living near the east - Withinlee Road - where the proposed HS2 railway line have had average house price is £1,649,000. damage the property the lender is going to be worried. “High Speed 2 affected prices by up to 30% for a period of time. With fracking, the fear is this could actually damage the property. But it also depends what is going on in the wider economy.” A survey of 60 estate agents in areas which will be affected by fracking revealed that most thought the loss of value per property could be as much as a tenth, while a handful estimated that prices could plummet by up to 70 per cent. On top of that, homeowners in fracking zones have been warned that the risk of Earth tremors could cause significant hikes in their home insurance premiums, while the noxious gases given off by the process could also see health insurance bills rocket. Paula Higgins, of HomeOwners Alliance, said: “Homeowners are being kept in the dark on how fracking will affect them. Some are already bearing the brunt through aborted sales.” http://www.express.co.uk/

Property sales in Spain reach three year high
Residential property sales in Spain increased in May to their highest level for three years, according to the latest official figures. But there is an ongoing collapse in new home sales, the data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) shows. Overall there were 26,455 homes sale in May, up 5% on last year and 11% on the year before that. But a breakdown of the figures shows that the increase came from the resale market, up 34% over 12 months, whilst new home sales fell 42% to just over 6,000. According to Mark Stucklin, of Spanish Property Insight the overall picture is one of a recovery in demand for property in all areas where foreigners tend to buy, but with the market hamstring being a lack of attractive new homes for sale. However this could be about to change. Demand is growing for new homes in Marbella, for example and developers are building again. Land is in high demand and for the first time in almost a decade residential, commercial and tourism projects are under construction and market sentiment is increasingly positive, according to Pia Arrieta, partner at DM Properties Knight Frank Marbella. ‘Genuine interest in good value, good quality, well located plots of land is on the increase. Land prices in Spain climbed 5.2% during the last quarter of 2014 and sales increased significantly compared with the same
period in 2013,’ said Arrieta. Arrieta explained that the strong pound is encouraging UK buyers who are considering a broader range of investments, but northern Europeans, particularly those from Scandinavia, the Benelux nations, Germany and Russia are also ranking highly among those choosing to build their dream homes on the Costa del Sol. ‘The demand for land stems from a growing appetite amongst end users’ for turnkey, contemporary products with the latest gadgets and luxuries. Competitive construction costs and the decline in land prices in recent years has spurred developers on,’ she pointed out. ‘Marbella’s accessibility along with continuing investment in the town such as its new boardwalk and the increasing number of top rated restaurants are also encouraging new development,’ she added. According to Knight Frank’s head of sales in Spain Christian de Meillac this upturn in demand has also been replicated in registration figures. ‘In the first half of 2015 Knight Frank has seen a 65% increase in new applicants registering their interest in Marbella compared with the same period last year,’ he said. ‘Buyers are seeing value again. Prices have come down, the exchange rate is favourable and buyers are seeing long term growth potential,’ he added. http://www.propertywire.com/

The Flu Epidemic
Doctor Enzo Matanzamas reported the first case of Alquerian Flu to the Ministerio de Sanidad y Política Social at the beginning of the week. Influenzavirus B (Alquerian mutation) as it is officially known is a notifiable disease. It has all of the usual flu symptoms plus depression, fits of uncontrollable weeping and a large blue boil on the nose. Depression and fits of uncontrollable weeping are common in the healthy population of Alqueria so these symptoms can be misdiagnosed.
Manuela was the first confirmed case. She didn’t like visiting Dr. Matanzamas. He didn’t always take her temperature the way she expected. Her usual method of fighting colds was to take to her bed and place a large Sevillano Hat at the foot. She would then drink whisky mixed with lemon juice from a Cruzcampo Beer glass held in her gloved hand. She would continue drinking until the hat began moving on its own accord. She would then be cured or at least feel a great deal better. This was Alquerian Flu and not a common cold however. Manuela was a fighter and was determined to carry on as usual, which she did. By the end of the week every man under forty had the virus. The olive mill came to a standstill. With no labour available the presses stopped and no Alquerian olives entered the national market. Shares in olive related companies rocketed. A spokesman for ENAC the accreditation body said it was the best news for the industry in fifty years. Only one person in the village was immune. Antonio Poyato. His exposure to the precious Remitroot he cultivated was the likely key. Antonio experimented on Nestor Clacketo

Keep the Box
‘Keep the box.’ Urged the sales girl as we completed the deal on a telly of sizeable proportions. The telly was duly delivered, unpacked and set up by two muscular men, who then left with the strict instructions that we were to ‘keep the box.’
and sure enough he was cured. Poyato was in high glee, a cure for influenza. He would be a rich man. How to administer it? He couldn’t give the whole village Remitroot wine, they were awkward enough sober. He dried the leaves and crushed them with olives to form a paste. Distributing this balsam free to the villagers he was sure he would make a fortune selling the recipe to the world’s pharmaceutical companies. There was however a hitch. Remitroot balsam cures only the Alquerian mutation and the Alquerian mutation kills all other forms of influenza. So to be cured one has to come to Alqueria and catch the local strain which kills the normal type. Then one has to take the balsam curing the Alquerian mutation. The Alquerian mutation is debilitating so a period of convalescence is required. If no rest is taken the immune system is so weak, reinfection takes place. The choice was clear, spend three week in Alqueria or suffer with the flu. Most people preferred the latter. Poyato was heart broken, but Alqueria was back to its usual dysfunctional self and free to continue making a nuisance of itself once more.
We know about keeping boxes. The tops of our kitchen cabinets groan under the load of kept boxes, but the proportions of this box dictated that it had to have a place of its very own, like under the beds in the spare room. Unfortunately that space was already occupied by 4 under-bed boxes containing handbags, shoes and sundry items belonging to Pete. There was nowhere in the house where a box of such size could be kept without it becoming a piece of furniture, so we turned our attentions to the outside. ‘It can go under the telly dish.’ Pete suggested. It couldn’t. The telly dish is hurricaneproof, its arms and legs secured to both the house wall and the ground, leaving no room underneath for huge boxes.

josbiggs@hotmail.co.uk boxes. The quantity of homeless random items was threatening to overwhelm us – there was nothing for it, we had to declutter before we disappeared under a mountain of miscellany. We cleared enough ‘stuff’ to fill the back of Henry, but now at least we had achieved space under the beds, so I went to install it in what was to be its new home, created for it with so much time and effort.
I was against this idea. The gentle breezes of Limaria are quite capable of shredding a tarpaulin and sending its cardboard contents careening into the next Province.
However, some mathematician, and I suspect Pythagoras, decided that the relative distance between the underneath of the bed and the wall was insufficient for the insertion of a solid object unless that object was bent in the middle. In other words, it wouldn’t fit!
We returned to the spare room, and set about clearing the under-bed boxes and transferring their contents into cupboards. However, all the cupboards were already full, so we had to clear them out so that we could re-fill them with the things we had taken out of the
Ha! Pythagoras, now where’s your Theorem?
‘We can keep it outside wrapped in the tarpaulin.’ Was Pete’s next suggestion.
We gazed at its stiff and stubborn cardboardness. Then we shoved the beds over, slid it in the now increased amount of room, and shoved the beds back again.

¾tsp salt 100g (3½oz) rocket leaves, washed and spun 100g (3½oz) chorizo slices 100g (3½oz) roasted almonds, roughly chopped METHOD Fry the diced onion in the olive oil in a very large frying pan with the saffron and drained beans. Cook with the lid on for 15 minutes over a low heat, then add the pepper slices. Cover again and cook for a final 15 minutes on a medium heat. Turn off the heat, then add the sherry vinegar. Season to taste. Add three quarters of the rocket to the warm contents of the pan and toss briefly. Divide the warm salad between the plates, before scattering with the chorizo, almonds and remaining rocket. For a vegetarian version of this dish, simply swap a fried egg for the chorizo and sprinkle a pinch of paprika on top of the warmed salad: totally delicious.

FOOD & ENTERTAINING... Calories in restaurant and pub food 'should be displayed'
ONE POT WONDERS
Food may contain hidden calories Every restaurant, pub and cinema chain should be displaying the calorie content of their food and drink, council leaders have said. The Local Government Association (LGA) says some UK outlets already do so, but the industry must do more.
SPRING CHICKEN IN A POT A mandatory scheme in the US
Ingredients
has given large restaurant chains
1 tbsp olive oil 1 onion , chopped 500g boneless, skinless chicken thighs 300g small new potatoes 425ml low-salt vegetable stock 350g broccoli , cut into small florets 350g spring greens , shredded 140g petits pois bunch spring onion , sliced 2 tbsp pesto
until the end of 2016 to put calorie counts on menus. The LGA, which represents councils in England and Wales, has called for voluntary action. Izzi Seccombe, chairman of the LGA's community well-being board, said: "We are calling on cinema, restaurant and pub chains to step up and show leadership in tackling the obesity crisis, by providing clear and graphic signs at counters and on menus. "In many cases, people are unaware of how many calories they are consuming. "Food and drink outlets should be doing more to provide clear and prominent labelling which spells this out clearly." More than 3.5 million children in Britain are classed as overweight or obese, the LGA said. It said research showed that soft drinks were the biggest contributor to children's sugar intake. A report by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition has advised the government to halve the current recommended intake of free sugars from 10% to 5%. http://www.bbc.com/
METHOD Heat the oil in a large, heavy pan. Add the onion, gently fry for 5 mins until softened, add the chicken, then fry until lightly coloured. Add the potatoes, stock and plenty of freshly ground black pepper, then bring to the boil. Cover, then simmer for 30 mins until the potatoes are tender and the chicken is cooked. NOTE: The dish can be frozen at this point. Add the broccoli, spring greens, petit pois and spring onions, stir well, then return to the boil. Cover, then cook for 5 mins more, stir in the pesto & heat through.
One-pan prawn & tomato curry INGREDIENTS
METHOD Heat the oil in a deep-sided frying pan and cook the onion for 8-10 mins until it starts to turn golden. Add the ginger, garlic and chilli and cook for 1-2 mins. Stir in the sugar and spices for 1 min, then splash in the vinegar and tomatoes. Season with salt and simmer for 5 mins, stirring until the sauce thickens.
2 tbsp sunflower oil 1 large onion, chopped Large piece ginger, crushed 4 garlic cloves, crushed ½ red chilli, finely chopped 1 tsp golden caster sugar Stir in the fresh prawns, reduce the 1 tsp black mustard seeds heat and leave for 8-10 mins until 1 tsp ground cumin cooked through. If the sauce gets very 1 tsp ground coriander thick, add a splash of water. Remove 1 tsp turmeric from the heat, stir through most of the 1 tbsp garam masala coriander. Serve straight from the pan, 2 tsp malt vinegar scattered with the remaining coriander, 400g can chopped tomatoes with the rice, yoghurt and chutney in 400g/14oz raw king prawns separate bowls. Small bunch coriander, chopped Basmati rice, yoghurt and mango chutney, to serve
METHOD Preheat the oven to fan 180C/ conventional 200C/gas 6. Heat 1 tbsp of the oil from the olives in an ovenproof pan. Tip in the onion and stir well, leave to cook for a minute or two and then give it another good stir. Add the tomatoes and some salt and pepper. Bring to the boil, then add the olives.
One-pot Fish With Black Olives Ingredients
175g black olives in oil, stones removed 1 large onion , roughly chopped 400g can chopped tomatoes 4 boneless white fish fillets such as Icelandic cod or hoki, each weighing about 175g/6oz To serve: chopped parsley & lemon wedges
Put the fish, skin side down, onto the sauce and drizzle over a splash more oil from the olive jar. Bake, uncovered, for 15 minutes until the fish is cooked. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve straight from the pan, with lemon wedges for squeezing over.

Spanish photographer Atila Madrona cycles his way around New Zealand
Atila Madrona has spent the past 6 months cycling the perimeter of New Zealand with all of this possessions being towed in a trailer, surfboard, cooker, tent, technology. He is documenting his trip and posts online each week a video of his adventures. He says there is no better way to travel than on a bike. Kiwi’s love to travel the world, taking OEs to far off lands such as Europe and Africa. But for those already living on the other side of the world, New Zealand is one of the most beautiful and aspirational destinations for travellers to experience. Atila Madrona is a 26-year-old Spanish photographer and he is cycling the perimeter of New Zealand in 10 months, surfboard in tow. He partnered with Microsoft to make his experience affordable. In return, he is making a documentary, as well as posting a photo every day and a video every week. But Madrona didn’t stop there. He found sponsors from around Europe to provide him with clothing,
tents, trailers and the bike. He started at the beginning of the year in Dunedin, and is now just over half-way through his 16,000 km journey at Pataua. “I think cycling is a great way to travel and to meet a culture. I really think the world would be a better place if we all cycled more. “It’s good for your body, good for the planet and a way more natural way of commuting. It is more exciting and more authentic than any other way of transport,” he said. But the best part of his trip so far has been the warm welcome he has received from kind Kiwis along the way. “People have offered me every thing they could and I really enjoy how nice, honest and genuine Kiwis are. I am sure that being on a bicycle and towing a surfboard has helped me encounter so many friendly people.” These people have helped him paddle in a waka in Greymouth and Paihia, to join a powhiri at Waitangi’s historical marae and allowed him to “get really involved with New Zealand’s culture”. “Surfing is a great way to meet people and enjoy nature. If it wasn’t for surfing, I couldn’t have stayed in so many family houses all around New Zealand. “Thank you New Zealand for this time you have given me. It is the best and most authentic adventure of my life.” Follow his journey at dontfollowthisbike.com http://www.stuff.co.nz/

Spanish online retailer fnac lists third-generation Motorola Moto G
Motorola has recently sent out invitations for an event to be held on July 28th. During the festivities, we expect to see the company introduce the third-generation Motorola Moto G and two variants of the Motorola Moto X. While Motorola has yet to officially unveil the handset, Spanish online retailer fnac already has the phone listed on its site, available in both black and white. Everything we know about the thirdgeneration Motorola Moto G to date shows that it will feature a 5-inch screen with a 720 x 1280 resolution. The Snapdragon 410 SoC will drive the handset, and contains a quad-core 1.7GHz CPU and the Adreno 306 GPU. 2GB of RAM is inside along with 8GB of expandable native storage. A 13MP camera is on back with a 5MP snapper on front. Keeping the lights on is a 2470mAh battery, and Android 5.1.1 is pre-installed.. The phone supports 4G connectivity, and is priced at the equivalent of $215 USD on the Spanish online retailer's site. Last month, we even got to see the phone in action thanks to a video posted on YouTube. All of the rumors and leaks won't matter once July 28th is here, and the thirdgeneration Motorola Moto G is made official. Don't forget to circle the date on your calendar. http://www.phonearena.com/

If you have ever wanted to go shopping but had nowhere to leave the dog, IKEA may have come up with the perfect solution. The Swedish furniture giants have created doggy parking bays where customers can leave their pooches while they have a wander
around the store. The dedicated spaces, complete with artificial grass, water bowls and a secure place to tie them, have been set up outside stores in Cologne, Germany. It gives customers with pets a place to leave them while they negotiate their way around the furnishings shop. The company is well known for its childcare areas and even set up a special installation complete with a flatscreen TV showing sports and computer games - for retail fatigued men in Sydney, Australia, one Father’s Day. This latest concept, which has proved popular with social media users, is designed to stop people from leaving their dogs inside hot cars. Shannah Fedus wrote: ‘IKEA is awesome and these need to be everywhere!’ Adriane Zane tweeted: ‘This is brilliant. German IKEA has #Dog Parking Lot so no dogs in hot cars. Good idea!’ But shoppers should be warned not to take pets to its shops in UK yet as the facility has not been made available at British stores. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk
Dogs in Hot Cars and on Hot Pavement
Every year, dogs suffer and die when their guardians make the mistake of leaving them in a parked car—even for “just a minute”—while they run an errand. Parked cars are deathtraps for dogs: On a 78-degree day, the temperature inside a parked car can soar to between 100 and 120 degrees in just minutes, and on a 90-degree day, the interior temperature can reach as high as 160 degrees in less than 10 minutes. Animals can sustain brain damage or even die from heatstroke in just 15 minutes. Beating the heat is extra tough for dogs because they can only cool themselves by panting and by sweating through their paw pads. If you see a dog left alone in a hot car, take down the car’s color, model, make, and license plate number. Have the owner paged in the nearest buildings, or call local humane authorities or police. Have someone keep an eye on the dog.
Don’t leave the scene until the situation has been resolved. If the authorities are unresponsive or too slow and the dog’s life appears to be in imminent danger, find a witness (or several) who will back up your assessment, take steps to remove the suffering animal from the car, and then wait for authorities to arrive. Watch for heatstroke symptoms such as restlessness, excessive thirst, thick saliva, heavy panting, lethargy, lack of appetite, dark tongue, rapid heartbeat, fever, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, and lack of coordination. If a dog shows any of these symptoms, get him or her out of the heat, preferably into an air-conditioned vehicle, and then to a veterinarian immediately. If you are unable to transport the dog yourself, take him or her into an airconditioned building if possible and call animal control: Tell them it is an emergency.
Are all the animals in the store kittens and puppies, with nary an adult dog in sight? If so, it’s likely this pet store isn’t partnering up with a shelter to find homes, but is instead collecting animals from a mill. Research indicates that 90 percent of puppies found in pet stores come from a puppy mill rather than from a shelter. Beware Of “USDA Licensed” The tagline “USDA licensed breeder” sounds pretty official, doesn’t it? The truth is, it doesn’t hold much weight. My Week With Marilyn
“What I remembered most was her embrace, her belief in me and the joy she gave, that was her gift. When I think of her now, I think of that time when a dream came true and my only talent was not to close my eyes.” Colin Clark. This film was based on two of Colin Clark’s diaries: The Prince, The Showgirl and Me and My Week With Marilyn published in 1995. Clark was the least famous of his family in 1956 but he achieved great success after this brief but memorable and intimate encounter with Marilyn Monroe. His father was the renowned Kenneth Clark, art historian and his elder brother was Alan Clark M.P, another renowned diarist. Clark chronicled the clash of egos between two legends: Olivier (played by Branagh) and Monroe (Michelle Williams) as well as his growing infatuation with Monroe which left him with a broken heart. Written by Adrian Hodges and directed by Simon Curtis-this is his debut feature film. The film opens with this simple revelation: “This is their true story.” And it is moving and sad for everyone touched by Monroe’s glamour and stage presence. Clark (an attractive Eddie Redmayne) was just 23, from an extremely privileged background, fresh out of Eton, determined to pursue a career in films much to his father’s irritation who offered to get him real work. Clark wanted to prove to himself as well as the famous Clarks that he could make a go of it. He had a lot to live up to. So, as he put it, he decided to join the circus. Coming from such a famous family he already knew Olivier and his wife, Vivien Leigh as well as Margot Fonteyn who were regular visiters to Saltwood castle for afternoon teas. It made sense for Clark to use his link with Olivier to ask for a job. Even when he was told there weren’t any jobs he came back to the office every day and just waited and waited… It was Vivien who persuaded Olivier to find something for Clark and guess what? He was given the most rudimentary and unglamorous job of being a Gofor which in the film industry means a person who has been told to Go for this or Go for that. We would call it a dog’s body. Officially it was third assistant director. But what a start! Marilyn Monroe was due to come to Britain to film with Olivier and Clark would be www.carolnaylor.blogspot.com www.carolesleynaylor.wordpress.com naylorcl@hotmail.es

working with this legend. Larry had fallen in love with Monroe on a recent visit to New York and he wanted her to rekindle his career in films. Monroe wanted to gain respect as an actress something she desperately craved and both felt that working together there would be mutual benefits. It didn’t quite turn out like that and the film based on a Terence Rattigan play The Sleeping Prince was largely panned by the critics. It was 1956 when Britain had finally started to shake off the shadow of the last world war. Monroe had been married for 3 weeks to Arthur Miller. It was her third marriage and she was just 30. She had told the press that it was third time lucky. Already there were signs that the marriage had got off to a shaky start. Clark saw her sitting on the stairs holding a manuscript of Miller’s latest play: After The Fall about Marilyn and she was devastated to read about her mood swings, not to mention the drugs and the booze. Miller decides to return to the States, telling Larry: “She’s devouring me. I can’t work and I can’t think.” During rehearsals Clark witnessed a prickly relationship with tantrums, walk-outs and tempers flared. As director, Olivier’s patience was tested. She was often late, fluffed her lines, was ill-prepared and would walk off the set when greeted by a sarcastic Olivier. An infuriated Olivier told Clark: Teaching Marilyn to act is like teaching Urdu to a badger. He vowed he would never direct again. Marilyn had destroyed his desire to do so. “Monroe doesn’t really forget her lines. It is more as if she had never quite learnt them.” Clark’s intimacy with his Greek Goddess lasted 9 days. It was a whirlwind of a chaste affair for the showgirl and her younger Prince Regent which afforded them some welldeserved privacy. “Monroe took a shine to the confident yet innocent Clark and whisked him away to spend a week virtually alone with her.” You Stepped Out of a Dream plays in the background as the two visit Windsor then Eton before the bubble bursts to Autumn Leaves and Clark’s heart is inevitably broken. Monroe went on to make Some Like it Hot and Olivier played Archie Rice, a failing middle-aged song-and-dance man in John Osborne’s The Entertainer. It proved to be one of the triumphs of his career. REVIEW it by Carol Naylor.
pause for thought
Over the years I’ve received a number of comments about Religion being the cause of so many wars; and some have even suggested that the best way to prevent war would be to ban all religion. And of course, on the face of it, one can’t help but have some sympathy with this view. After all, so much of the Middle East and Africa seem torn by religious conflict, with ISIS, Boca Haraam and so many others regularly causing havoc in the name of Allah, whilst nearer home, we are all aware of the part religion played in the turmoil in Northern Ireland, and of course the Crusaders caused quite a bit of mayhem in their day in the name of Christ. But how can it be that Christianity, a religion based on the teachings of Jesus, the ‘Prince of Peace’, has become the apparent cause of wars and strife? For Jesus clearly taught that we should love our enemies and do good to those who hate us; that we should forgive others as God has forgiven us. How is it then that so many, over the centuries have gone to war in His name? How is it that so much hatred and hurt has been blamed on faith in Jesus, who himself spoke so much of love and forgiveness, who freely surrendered his
own life, still loving and offering forgiveness to those who killed him? My only suggestion can be that those who use their Christian faith as an excuse for violence or war have no real faith at all, misunderstanding completely the teachings of the Christ they claim to serve. So the Bible tells us that when Peter understandably perhaps, in absolute loyalty drew his sword to defend Jesus at his arrest, that Jesus rebuked him, telling him that violence was not the answer. For how can I pray as Jesus taught ‘Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us’ whilst hatred for others remains within me. So no, I remain convinced that true faith in Jesus Christ could never be the cause of war. T.M.G.S. at La Marquesa 15/7/15
Another sweltering day greeted us as we arrived at La Marquesa for this week’s Stableford competition. Surprisingly everyone arrived on time and no one got lost! It’s been well documented that we are a multinational Society, today we welcomed a Dutchman and a couple from Belgium for the first time, the couple are students of our Secretary, who is also the resident pro at Real club de golf Campoamor. The course was in reasonably good condition for such high temperatures, although the greens were a little on the slow side, but good never the less. Yet again I had the pleasure of the company of Vernon Brown, who is sadly retuning to the UK on Friday and the ever present Swede Arne Hansson, Arne is suffering from a few problems with his beloved Jaguar, so he didn’t begin in a good frame of mind, it was left to Vernon and myself to take his mind of it, that’s if we were going to have an enjoyable day’s golf! After a few holes of encouragement he soon found his stride and managed to put a few points on his card. On the other hand our 2 Belgium guests seemed to be having a tremendous time, sometimes husband and wife playing in the same group isn’t the best recipe for good golf,
however Patrick soon realised that today was going to be his wife’s day. Ria is very keen to improve her golf and boy did she show it today, she has never played this course before and yet still managed to return a massive score of 48 points! And that was from only 17 holes because she had a no score on 1 hole. Her handicap has dropped by 6 full shots from 33,5 to 27,5, could be something to do with her lessons! Maybe it won’t be so easy for her next week at Villamartin. Did I mention that the score card has already been sent to the Belgium Golf Federation! It’s no surprise then that she won this week’s visitors prize. Our Silver category
winners didn’t even come close to her score with the Norwegian trio of Roger Nilsen, 30 pts. Carsten Landaas 31 pts. and Ole Rong 36 pts. taking home the bacon. We did manage to get a couple of Brits into the top 3 of the Gold category, Captain, John Eyre taking 1st place with a 1 better than par 37 pts. Local School teacher Derek “Peter” Sullivan taking 2nd place with level par 36 points, but yet again Hans Arvesen from Norway taking 3rd place with 34 pts. The N.T.P.’s prizes this week were donated by Captain John and handicap sec. Colin Marsden. They went to Captain John on Hole 5, Dag Lovas Hole 11, Arne Hansson Hole 15 and
lastly Carsten Landaas on Hole 17, the “2’s” pot was again won today so the €22 was divided between Chris Gray, Dag Lovas and John Eyre. Vernon very generously donated half a dozen bottles of Vodka, so after all of the winning cards had been removed a random draw was made for the Vodka. At this venue we frequently stop behind for the “clubhouse” restaurant menu del dia, it’s well worth giving it a try with incredible quality and value at just, €12, 50 Photo: Silver category winners Next week we visit Villamartin so if you fancy a game just call the Secretary on 661 524 101 or visit our website www.tmgs. org You can also follow us on Facebook/tmgsgolf or via our twitter account @tmgsgolf. Club de golf El Paraiso will also be playing Villamartin on the 26th more information can be found at www. clubdegolfelparaiso. com

Torrevieja CC 105 for 10 Madrid 2nd 204 for 9 With temperatures in the low 30,s Torrevieja CC welcomed Madrid 2nd team to the Torrevieja Sports Stadium in the latest round of games in the ECCL league 2. Torrevieja, again fielding several junior players, won the toss and elected to field. Things got of to a steady start for both teams and after half of their allotted 40 overs, Madrid had reached 74 with the loss of 3 wickets. This left Ed Hitchcock and Victor Medina at the crease. Victor is one of the few Spanish players to play cricket and is improving with every game. Unluckily he had
to go off for treatment after being hit by a rising delivery but came back later to continue. Meanwhile, Ed was beginning to hit the ball to all points of the compass and ably assisted by Souradh Khemalpure ( 16 ) and Rohit Sengupta (13 ) Madrid reached 135 before Ed was out for 60. Sumon Hussain (31) and David Sturton (21 not out) pushed the total to 204. Kieren Wood came from behind the wickets to bowl 5 overs and take 3 wickets for 10 runs. Ciaran Guichard and new member Grant Meekins both chipped in with 2 wickets each. Torrevieja started confidently but although
BULL FLANAGAN GOLF SOCIETY JULY MATCH REPORT July meeting 20 respectively.
For their society members travelled up the motorway to Bonalba to challenge this difficult course which usually sees lower than normal scores. The course was in excellent playing condition and had undergone substantial general improvements. The weather was commensurate to ensuring a good days golf and hopefully this would reflect in the scores returned. After the match all players returned to the Bull Flanagan Bar / Restaurant in Quesada for the prize winner’s presentation where members and guests were able take the opportunity to sample a refreshing drink before having a choice of a sponsored free lunch provided by Chris Stott of the Bull Flanagan. Only two players managed to get a score greater than 30 points leaving the chasing pack behind on 28 or less and todays winner was Terry Thirkill scoring a creditable 33 points. Second and third places went to Brian Ead and Barrie Hopkinson scoring 32 and 28 points
Nearest the pin winners on the par three holes were Mick McGrath on hole 4, Ken Enever on hole 8, and Brian Smith on hole 14. Terry Thirkill won the football cards and winner of the 28ers draw was Fred Hope who after just having the cateracts removed managed to record a first on nil points. The Captain Mick McGrath assisted the Secretary with the presentation ceremony and made comment on the success of the days event and how well it had been supported and he also thanked Chris and his staff and asked members to show their appreciation in the usual manner for their continued support and excellent service and quality of meals available on match days. He also advised members that the Anne McGrath Perpetual Memorial competition at Vistabella in June raised for the Oncology Department of Torrevieja Hospital 3,300 - 20 euros and he thanked everyone for their support and contributions. The Secretary reflected on another successful society day’s
keeping up with the run rate, they began to lose wickets on a regular basis. Only Kieren Wood (10) Michael Wareing (21) Neville Harris (12) and Vishav Thakur ( 30 not out ) reached double figures and eventually Torrevieja were all out for 105. Krishna Seshu ( 4 for 24 ) and Joss Bancroft ( 3 for 2 ) being the pick of the Madrid bowlers. With Elche and Hull City U21’s to come this week, it seems that the punishment for getting relegated from the top flight is a match against CD Torrevieja at El Vicente Garcia. Cordoba, unable to survive in La Liga last season, arrived fresh from a win against Orihuela in the week. For Torrevieja, this was the first outing for a much changed squad just five days into their pre-season training. El Vicente Garcia’s numbers were swelled, not just down to the size of the Cordoba support staff, but the anticipation of seeing how players that had competed against the likes of Messi, Suarez, Neymar, Ronaldo and Bale would fare against the talents of Vicente, Jorge, Rafa Gomez and Luis Carlos. Those in attendance will have noticed the first stage of a minor facelift for the old stadium. The morning had been spent with a group of local nonSpanish fans working alongside two members of the CD Torrevieja board in some impromptu painting and decorating of the main entrance. It was great to see local community support, ranging from the donation of paint from James Cullen at Quesada Colours through to volunteers that cracked on, paint brush in hand. Torrevieja lined up with a mix of faces from last season and some of the new signings made by manager Pedreno. Many eyes were to be on Martin, back from a long term injury, Carrasco, dropping deeper into a midfield role at the age of 37 and Juanfran, top

scorer for the last three seasons in three different clubs promoted from the Tercera divisions. Torrevieja started the game brightly, just five minutes were gone when Luis Carlos, returning from Novelda, was played in by Rafa Gomez only to see his shot saved at the near post. From the resulting corner Martin had a fine chance to open the scoring but was unable to make contact with the ball. Minutes later Cordoba had their first sight of goal, a well hit strike by Adri Cuevas was beaten away by Oscar. Paul thought he had put the visitors ahead midway through the first period, only to see his goal disallowed by a late flag from the assistant referee. The first twenty minutes was played at a high tempo, Torrevieja’s front four rotating and changing positions at will. Cordoba grew into the game quickly, forcing Torrevieja to play a little more direct making it pretty easy for the experienced Corboba defenders. The visitors took the lead courtesy of a disputed corner. Vicente was adamant that Fran had touched the ball last, but the referee disagreed. From the corner Florin arrived unmarked and headed home. This gave Cordoba confidence and it looked like they were about to start expressing themselves. Fidel gave Vicente twisted blood, turning him one way then another, before drilling a cross through the six yard box. Fortunately
for Torrevieja nobody was there to convert. Paul then broke a dangerously high offside trap. Oscar took the initial sting out of his shot but Martin was needed to acrobatically clear the ball of the line with a diving header. Then the game turned on it’s head. Torrevieja finally put together an excellent move, full of invention, movement and crisp passing. Vicente and Rafa Gomez overloaded the Cordoba left flank and Jorge was able to pick out the attacking right back. Vicente rolled it to Luis Carlos who, following a clever one-two with Rafa, curled a delightful, low left footed shot round Juan Carlos and into the far right hand corner. Now it was Torrevieja with their tails up and they finished the half the stronger of the two sides. The second half went the way preseason friendlies often do. The higher ranked side moves up a few gears and the game gets stopped at regular intervals for another change of personnel. Cordoba went ahead again in the 62nd minute, but not before another warning shot had been fired which must have led to “defending corners” being top of Pedreno’s list for training. Early in the second period Torrevieja failed to defend a corner properly and were let off with Fran Cruz missing from a yard out. In the afore mentioned 62nd minute another corner was half cleared and fell to the substitute Xisco. One touch was needed to bring the ball down, the next touch was to
curl it into the top corner from twenty yards, a finish of genuine quality. With fifteen minutes to go the gap between the two sides was exposed. Arturo picked the ball up on the wing, left Vicente and David Rives trailing in his wake and slotted home. It was a fine goal, one that would not have looked out of place in the top flight that Cordoba have fallen from. The game ended 3-1 and all the appropriate pre-season cliches can be dusted down and used. From the Torrevieja point of view it was a good run out. Much needed match fitness will have been got, Pedreno will have a much clearer view of what needs to be worked on and there were the usual smatterings of very bright moments that can give the fans hope that a good season might be on the cards. CD Torrevieja have two matches this week, kicking off with Elche on Wednesday night at 8pm. Tickets for this are 10€. Then, on Friday night, Hull City U21’s will be the opposition. Due to this now being the U21 side, tickets have been reduced to just 5€. Anyone who has already purchased a season ticket (125€ or 100€ and available from the club shop inside the stadium on Tuesday’s 1130-1330 and Thursday’s 1700-1900) can get in for half price to all pre-season friendlies. Lorca Deportiva 0 Sevilla FC 4
The Real Lorca have once again risen to the Tercera Division after the demise of the former club through financial difficulties, but the club are now on solid footings and looking to push on towards a play off sport after signing experienced players at this level. The club who was founded by an Englishman (A fellow Geordie by the way) have bought well so to speak s i g n i n g A n d r é s G a r c í a Tébar (Head Coah), Gallardo (Mar Menor), Lee Spires (Huercal Overa), Campanas (Huercal Overa), Andrés Carrasco (Águilas), Guille (Murcia B), Pico (Orihuela), Marco (Real Ávila). The first preseason friendly was probably the toughest they will have for years welcoming UEFA Cup Champions Sevilla to the Estadio Francisco Artés Carrasco, the clubs have strong links due to the Head Coah of Sevilla being Unai Emery who not only finished his playing career at Lorca but also took them to the heady heights of the Segunda division and mastered a victory over Malaga in the Copa Del Rey. Credit to Emery and the Seville club as they brought a
very strong squad to show of there skills in front of over 3000 on a balmy Thursday evening, fielding French, Spanish and Swedish international players. The goals came from Gamerio in the 26th minute, and then shortly after the break Vitolo made it 2 on 48 minutes. Vitolo got his 2nd and the visitors 3rd after 80 mins then Matos wrapped it up 4 minu t e s later. S a d l y Emery was sent from the dug out after he encroached onto the field of play after a solid challenge on one of his stars. Lorca Team - Juanma, José Antonio, Robles, Marcos, Borja, Gallardo, Paco Lorca, Juan Daniel, Lee, Pico & Carrasco. Subs Used Pablo, Asensio, Luismi, Campanas, Heredia, Guille, Fran, Pelé, Pedro Baños & Isaac Jové. COSTA COBRAS RFC AT SAN JAVIER BEACH 5’S
At the weekend Costa Cobras RFC entered their first beach rugby tournament at the San Javier beach 5’s, a slightly different way of playing rugby, a lot faster with no rucks, scrums or lineouts. Going down with 7 players, and only two had beach rugby experience before and three novices, so excellent experience for the players. We were in a very strong league playing against Lorca, who were runners up in the Formentera del Segura 7’s, also against Cartagena and Murcia XV, all of the teams play in the Murcia first division. The first game was against Lorca, which in the first half we held our own well, but as the match wore on their experience began to tell and number of subs as well, losing 4-0. Also we had two juniors, Kyle and Jamie, down with us getting their first experience of tournament rugby, and they did brilliantly with Jamie putting in some great defensive tackles, while Kyle set up two great tries with excellent off loads.
Both of them did extreme well and should be very proud of themselves and have a great future at the club. The seniors finished off their league matches later on in the day, narrowly been defeat against Murcia XV and taking Cartagena to the wire with a 6-6 draw, so had to play sudden death, and unfortunately came unstuck. In the play offs they won their game so was a great result all round for the club, with lots of experienced gain and going forward and improving with each tournament, going up against tougher opposition all the time. Everybody at the club can not wait for the next tournament at the San Juan beach 7’s on 1 August, which we will be playing in, so if anybody would like to come and join in they are more than welcome to do so, the more the merrier, and join this up and coming new rugby club, Costa Cobras RFC. During the summer months training is continuing on Guardamar beach on Monday
and Wednesday at 20.00, so anybody who wants to come along and take part is more than welcome. All ages, gender and nationalities are welcome, from beginners to experienced players, the more the merrier, as we are based on the true traditional ethics of the sport. So come along and join the newest rugby club on the Costa Blanca. Also team bonding after training in the nearest bar for a drink and chat, just how rugby should be. Training still takes place on Monday and Wednesday from 20.00-21.30 at Guardamar beach in front of the restaurants. For more information about the club contact myself, Dutch, on 692 767 242. Also I am back down at Zoco market on Sunday again from 09.00-13.30, so come on down and find more out about the club and rugby in the area. Also for all of your rugby branded clothing and gear including Canterbury casuals and Cotton Traders shirts.
