Nearly a hundred officers of the Unidad de Prevención y Reacción (Prevention and Response) (UPR) and the GrupoOperativo de IntervencionesTécnicas (Task Force Technical Interventions) (GOIT) conducted the operation in blocks 3 and 4 of the CalleSanta Rita.
The Emergency Services took the man to the Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca with severe head injuries.
As well as the arrestees they seized small quantities of heroin, cocaine and marijuana, plus 6,000 euros.

Named ‘OperaciónBajo’, 50 agents of the UPRcordoned off the area and entered the flats. They had difficulty accessing the ‘clan de la Loles’ headquarters in Block 3 because it was barricaded with iron bars and a blast door. Two circular saws were used, but the officers were forced to enter through the window. An entire wall had to be demolished to enter the other flats, which were defended ‘as if they were bunkers.’ Other residents threw objects at officers to hamper them. Of the nine arrested, three were ‘Lookouts’, who gave warning of the raid. laverdad.es

66% of drivers suffer from glare when driving People with light eyes and those over 50 have increased sensitivity to light, according to a study by FundaciónRementería. According to a survey of 2,500 drivers, a quarter have suffered a serious glare - 85 % due to the sun and 15 % by the lights of other vehicles. The most frequent risks were hitting a pedestrian or cyclist, followed by driving off the road. The most dangerous situation for drivers is driving in fog, followed by driving into the sun. 55 % of drivers always take protective measures while driving in the sun, compared to 33 % who do so occasionally and 12% who never do. The risk of glare is higher in people over 50 years, according to a study by the Grupo de Investigación en VisiónAplicada de la Universidad Complutense, in Madrid. This found that the halo around the light source at night (like headlights and streetlights) is enlarged with the ageing of the eye, making it difficult to see objects behind the light. People with light coloured eyes are particularly sensitive to light, because the amount of melanin in the iris is less. An Austrian study published in 2013 found thatpeople with blue eyes had significantly higher levels of intraocular scattered light, so might experience disabling glare in everyday situations like driving at night more often. The Day of the Doctors ByBen Lawrence

CHRISTMAS FAYRE
SATURDAY 30th NOVEMBER 10.30a.m LA SIESTA CHURCH Bric-a-brac, jewellery, raffle, home baking, mulled wine,
It is strange to think that, 50 years after its inauspicious debut on the BBC, Doctor Who is being celebrated around the world.
mince pies, hot dogs, auction, linen, books,
The special anniversary episode has inspired the same fervour as a World Cup final or a Royal wedding. The big question, then, was whether The Day of the Doctor would buckle under the weight of expectation. All eyes were fixed on how writer Steven Moffat would manage to satisfy the show’s disciplesand produce a sparkling piece of drama.
games, tombola, tea & coffee etc.
In fact, it didn’t feel like a celebration and Moffat sensibly resisted any desire to make this a self-referential homage. Instead things soon gathered pace and the action unfurled across three different time zones. Matt Smith’s Doctor, hanging from the bottom of the Tardis, was transported across modern-day London to the National Gallery.
Proceeds to local charities.
During the war with the Dalekson Gallifrey (the Time Lord’s home planet) 400 years ago, we saw the mysterious Doctor (John Hurt) who fought in the Time War and who we were told, tantalisingly, would “silence the universe”. Then, in 1562, tenth Doctor David Tennant was paying court to Elizabeth I who was actually a shapeshiftingZygon. It was fascinating to see how Matt Smith and David Tennant interacted. Both fine actors, they are also very different. Tennant is edgy and mercurial, likely to turn on a pin. Smith is gentler, with a boyish eccentricity and other-worldly strangeness. They sparred terrifically with a fair amount of trademark humour. Smith’s Doctor teased Tennant’s about his “sand shoes” and his weight. “Ooh. That is proper skinny. Hello matchstick man!” And yet they were both skilled enough to convince the viewer that they were one and the same person, both sharing a compassion, an acute intelligence and a formidable nose for danger. John Hurt was a fantastic counterpoint to the physicality of Tennant and Smith. With one withering look, he was able to silence his younger selves. “Am I having a mid-life crisis?” he asked with all the bewilderment of a man who, ironically for an alien, had just been confronted with his own mortality. As for the assistants, Jenna Coleman’s Clara was touching and Billie Piper (Rose) was transfixing as the “Bad Wolf” Rose. Less impressive was Joanna Page’s Elizabeth I. Perhaps because we have been spoiled by Cate Blanchett, Helen Mirren and Glenda Jackson’s meaty, cerebral performances, Page’s interpretation (complete with slight Welsh accent) felt sketchy and there was no palpable chemistry between her and Tennant. “You’re just a bad copy,” the Doctor told the Virgin Queen and I had to agree. British anger as Spain searches UK diplomatic bag at Gibraltar border
Spain accused of ‘serious infringement’ after opening bag belonging to a British diplomat travelling across the border
LEGAL CORNER WITH MICHAEL DAVIES, ABOGADO/SOLICITOR
If you wish us to print an article about a particular topic, please e-mail info@daviessolicitors.com INHERITANCE TAX IN ANDALUCIA: THE 175,000 EURO: EXEMPTION FOR SPOUSE AND DESCENDENTS: If you are resident in Andalucía and have inherited less than 175,000 euro, you will pay no inheritance tax as long as you are a GROUP I heir (this is spouse, civil partners and all direct descendants including adopted children). The exemption as you can see contains three conditions: 1. You must be resident in Andalucia: If you are non resident your exempt amount would only be 16,000 euro. (consult a professional regarding who is considered resident for the purpose of inheritance tax) 2. The heir must be in Group I. 3. The heir must not receive more than 175,000 euro. In Spain tax is applied to what each heir receives. As long as each heir in group I receives less than 175000 no tax will be due. This is an all or nothing exemption. If you inherit one euro more than 175000 euro then you do not qualify and pay on everything but the first 16,000 euro. (Which is the exempt amount for GROUP I heirs if you do not qualify for the above). (if you are close to the exemption rate consult a professional regarding exact valuation of the estate as he will be able to establish it using benchmarks and will need to fine tune the value adding 3% for chattels and deducting deductable expenses) Example: A married couple resident in Mojacar have a jointly owned property worth 700,000 euro and a joint bank account worth 50,000 euro. If the husband passes away the estate will be worth 375000 euro. (half of the value of the house and half of the money in the bank account) This is a simplified version of the reality, because this amount would in reality suffer certain adjustments before being used). If the deceased husband had left his complete estate to his wife, then: As she is receiving over 375000 euro she does not qualify for the exemption and will need to pay tax on all but the first 16,000 euro: result her tax would be over 70000 euro. If this couple had three children also resident in Mojacar and the husband had left his estate to his three children and wife in four equal shares, then no inheritance tax would have been paid al each heir would have been entitled to the exemption of 175000 euro. Please also note an error in last weeks print. The Article stated that the brother had to pay 170,000 euros inheritance tax but this should have read 17,000 euros.

Spain was accused of a “serious infringement” after Guardia Civil officers opened and searched a British government diplomatic bag being transported across the border from Gibraltar. The breach of protocol is the latest in a series of provocative actions from Spanish authorities at the border and led to yet another complaint by the UK foreign office to its Spanish counterparts. “This is a serious infringement of the principles of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” a spokesman from the FCO said. “Protocol concerning official correspondence and the diplomatic bag is governed by the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. There are long-established and internationallyaccepted Articles concerning official correspondence and the diplomatic bag to which the FCO adheres. We expect other parties to the Convention, including EU and NATO allies, to do the same,” the FCO continued. “We take very seriously any reported abuse of the protocol surrounding official correspondence and the diplomatic bag. We have asked the Spanish authorities to investigate what occurred and

take action to ensure it does not happen again. “As far as we are concerned there is no justification for this infringement of the UK’s rights under the Vienna Convention. Official correspondence and diplomatic bags are inviolable.” Last week the Foreign Office summoned Spain’s Ambassador to London to make a formal complaint after a Spanish research vessel entered British Gibraltar Territorial waters and ignoring warnings from the Royal Navy, remained there for 20 hours. The “illegal incursion” prompted calls for the Royal Navy to boost its presence to protector from “constant harassment” from Spain. Fabian Picardo, the Chief Minister of Gibraltar, also complained that Spanish authorities were now targeting pedestrians at the frontier, causing long delays for people crossing on foot. “We are now seeing people, elderly people, young children, standing in the cold shivering whilst the Spanish authorities create unnecessary politically manufactured queues asking people to turn out the contents of their pockets.” The summer was marked by lengthy traffic queues at the border as Spanish imposed stringent checks ostensibly aimed at preventing tobacco smuggling but widely seen as retaliation for Gibraltar’s creation of an artificial reef in its waters that put an end to illegal Spanish fishing. By Fiona Govan, Madrid www.telegraph.co.uk
Gibraltar is the only place in Europe with monkeys. Nobody really knows how the Rock’s cheeky Barbary macaques made it there; some claim they were brought over by the Moors or the British, others that they somehow crossed over from the Atlas mountains in neighbouring Morocco. Legend has it that if the apes ever leave the mountain, Gibraltar will cease to be British.
Gibraltarians earn on average €30,000 more a year than their Andalusian neighbours. The figure is €17,000 for Andalusians and €47,000 for Gibraltarians. According to the CIA World Factbook, Gibraltar also has a minute three percent unemployment rate compared to Spain’s mammoth 26.9 percent rate (Eurostat).

David and Julie Blinston, proprietors Lo Marabu Restaurant on the Lemon Tree Road, Quesada are converting the large, upper floor of the restaurant into a gallery and arts centre, and are looking for teachers who would like to use the space for classes. Suzanne Stokes has been teaching art there on Wednesday mornings for several years – but there are opportunities for other classes, such as card making, languages, yoga, meetings, and club gatherings to use the space on a regular basis. It is also a perfect venue for parties, and excellent buffet meals can be provided by the restaurant. The gallery is still work in progress and most of the paintings currently on display are by Suzanne’s students, and also works by local photographers. Suzanne will be managing the artwork display and a limited number of artists will be accepted. Paintings must be properly framed and saleable, and will be given a six week showing. This gives others a chance to show their work. There will be a small charge for using the gallery rooms and it is expected that customers will buy drinks, coffees etc in return for the privilege of using it. So if you would like to hold a class or meeting at the gallery, call Lo Marabu on 966 716 012 Suzanne can be contacted through her website www.sue-stokes.co.uk

HELP VEGA BAJA CHRISTMAS MARKET Humanists
After many volunteers spent weeks, sorting, laundering, checking, cooking and some months making crafts, they then transported items to The Asturias last Friday. Then on Saturday set up the stalls and display their items in very eye catching ways, until the queue waiting to enter, had grown so long, the organisers decided to open early. Clothes displayed on rails, tables of shoes and handbags, jewellery and tops in the small hall; whilst in the large hall tables laden with books in alphabet order; fantastic and colourful Crafts; a vast selection of Home Produce; Linen on tables and hanging; the seasonal Mystery Tombola; spotless Bric-a-Brac; Toys and Games overflowing their tables; a Christmas stall to suit all tastes; beautiful Collectables; CD’s and DVD’s galore; Guess the Money in the Bottle and the Raffle. What a sight for the
e a r l y shoppers, many making comments of the quality and value of all the items and, then finally laden enjoying the hospitality at the bar. Although not all raffle prize winners had stayed until the end, those absent received a telephone call before the market closed, to give them the good news and all prizes have now been claimed and we hope all the winners are enjoying their spoils. Over 5,000€ was raised and is being donated by HELP Vega Baja to the Stroke Support Group. This fantastic amount raised in a morning, is not only through the dedication of the many volunteers; also to those donating prizes for the Mystery Tombola and the Raffle namely, Louis of Looking Good Boutique, Cheryl of Diamond Flores and Vivyan and Amal Hermuz of Vivyan Hairstylist in Quesada; but also to the many people who braved a very cold morning to attend, to try their luck on the Tombola and Raffle and take a Guess, browse, shop and still come back for more. We thank them all. Ron Perrin President of HELP Vega Baja

Why play padel? Padel is fun. Padel is an easy way to stay fit. Padel is easily transferred to, from other racket sports. Padel is very easy on the joints, due to the artificial grass surface. Padel is easy to learn and play. Padel is very popular with retired N.Europeans on the Costas. WHEN DOES A SMILE BECOME A BELLY LAUGH?
When you take a very tatty Fairy Godmother, with a little bit of fairy dust; King Rat and the two ugliest sisters you have ever seen; Idle Jack drooling over Man Friday, and the wicked Abanazer, with his dastardly plan for re-vamping Pantoland. This is the latest offering from the ‘Smile Charity Group’, and has been especially scripted for them by the very talented John Wallace. Add the amazing direction of Pat Theilman, and you have a sure fire Hit. This ‘slightly adult’ Panto is being performed as a ‘Dinner Show’, opening at the Marina Hotel in Benidorm on Boxing Day, and then touring the local area. If you’re not in Benidorm on Boxing Day, you can still enjoy all the fun, together with a dinner at the following venues: January 7th at the Marjal Camp Site in Guardamar (behind Nancy’s!!!); January 8th at The Club in Calle Toledo in Quesada, and at the Restaurante ‘El Alto La Dolores’ Guardamar on January 10th. Tickets are priced at just 10 euros, which is fantastic value for a meal and great comedy entertainment. The performance at Benidorm will benefit the local Children’s Home, and profits from the other venues will go to local charities. The ‘Smile Charity Group’ is a totalling non-profit making organisation, where members don’t even claim out-of-pocket expenses. Tickets for the three performances in January are available from the Venues themselves, and also from The Post Room Benijófar, and The Card Place, Benimar. The secret of a good durable path lies in the planning – rather than exhausting your body by going mad with a shovel, start by using a bit of brain – the brawn comes later! We don’t get a lot of rain in this part of Spain, but it is a pound to a penny that if you don’t watch the weather forecast it will rain just as you have finished your path! So Step 1 has to be – choose a good weather outlook, you don’t want to see all your foundation sand creating a beach at the bottom of your road, while your path hangs in mid-air like the Gardens of Babylon! Next, find out where your utilities are under the ground. If you have a garden irrigation system, plan that in at this stage. Lay out your path. If you are making a winding path, a garden hose makes a nice flexible line, but you can also use spray paint directly on the ground or stakes and string. Calculate how many square feet the path will be, you need to know how much material to order – if you underestimate the amount, and have to reorder, there is a good chance that the pavers, or whatever you have decided to use, will not quite match. If in doubt, get the yard staff to do the mathematics; it’s their job, and they are used to it!If you are buyingpavers, allow a minimum of 10% breakage waste when ordering. Allow for your sand bed to be 1 inch thick by the square footage of your path. However, order extra for levelling the path and filling between the stones. Mortar sand, which is finer grained than all-purpose sand, is better for filling the joints. Remove the existing surface. Keep in mind the thickness of the paving material you

are using when determining the depth to which you have to dig. You will need 1-inch for the sand bed plus the thickness of the paver. If you are using a compacted base, don’t forget to add that in. You will need 1 in. thick sand +~2 3/8 in. thick pavers =~3 in. depth for excavation since there will be slight settlement of the sand when the pavers are compacted into it. Be sure to get rid of the spoil, etc. Don’t pile it up around the path, or when it rains it will wash down onto your nice new path. Or landscape it into your garden plan, but keep drainage in mind. Once the area is dug out, slightly dampen the soil bed, then compact it using a heavy flat object or a plate compactor. It will compact better if the soil is damp. Check the slope, especially if you are putting your path directly against your house. For every foot, there should be a 1/4 in. drop. Adjust the slope as needed. Place at least two pipes directly on the compacted soil at the edges of the path. Spread moist but not saturated sand between the pipes. Use a rake to smooth it out. Pull the straight edge of the rake across the pipes several times until the sand is perfectly smooth. Remove the pipes and fill the indentations with sand. Level these areas with a square trowel. Don’t walk on or disturb the levelled sand. Place the border (If you are making one) around the entire edge, then infill with the rest in the desired pattern. Continue to place your pavers on the sand, but don’t drag them into the sand. Use the ones you have already laid as a means to locate the one you’re placing. Compact the pavers using something heavy and flat. For large area a plate compactor is well worth the hire price, though on small areas stamping them in will probably be sufficient. Make at least four passes over all the pavers, starting at the outside of the pavement and working around the edges toward the inside. Then compact back and forth like mowing the grass. If you need to, you can remove and replace any pavers that crack or chip. Adjust joints. A large screwdriver is good for aligning paver joints. Spread dry joint sand over the surface and sweep some into the joints. Compact the sand into the joints, sweeping as you go. Filling the joints with sand will take several passes. In time the sand in the joints might settle, especially after a few rainstorms, so apply some extra sand where needed. Remove excess sand by sweeping. SOURCE: wikiHow

The average person spends one third of their life asleep. So if you are not sleeping comfortably, you are spending one third of your life uncomfortable. If you wake up feeling that you need a good night’s sleep, then maybe it is time to think about a new mattress. A good mattress should last between 7 and 15 years, but often the first indication that your mattress is reaching the end of its useful life is when you ‘don’t sleep as well as I used to’ or ‘it’s just a little niggle – it will go as soon as I get up’. Of course, there are other considerations -- stress levels, room temperature, health– butyour mattress is the first step towards a restful slumber. How do you know which mattress is best for you? To start, says Arya Nick Shamie, MD, associate professor of orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery at Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center, the mattress needs to support your body in a neutral position, one in which your spine has a nice curvature and your buttocks, heels, shoulders, and head are supported in proper alignment “If the mattress is too firm, it will push on those main pressure points and take you out of alignment,” Shamie tells WebMD. “If it’s too soft, those pressure points won’t be properly supported, so your whole body flops back.” Both of these scenarios can lead to an achy morning. Generally speaking, one type or brand of bed isn’t better than another, says Michael Breus, PhD, a WebMD sleep expert. But he does find that a firmer bed seems to be better for people with lower back pain. In fact, researchers in Spain studied people with long-term back pain and found that on a 10-point hard-to-soft scale people who slept on a medium-to-firm mattress (5.6 on the scale) had less back pain than those who slept on a softer mattress. How to choose a new mattress Experts suggest testing it in the store and lying down on each mattress in the position in which you normally sleep. Spend at least 10 to 15 minutes on the bed. Take your own pillow - the more you can replicate the way you’ll be sleeping on the mattress once you get it home, the better your chances of picking the right one. What sort? Innerspring Mattressesare still by far the most widely used. They support you with coil springs, and in most built today, each coil is individually enclosed. This helps the bed weather years of use and prevents the coils from popping out of the mattress. On top of the coils are a wide variety of materials added for comfort, from pillow to latex to memory foam. Pros: A huge range of brands in a huge range of firmness and price. Cons: There’s no direct relationship in most cases between price and comfort, steerclear of the cheapest innerspring mattress, which will almost certainly have insufficient or weak springs and lack cushioning. Conditions: For someone who is very overweight, spring mattresses may offer a firmer support, and be easier to get in and out of. Memory Foam Mattresses are made of layers of different densities of foam that respond to weight and temperature, and are known for comfort because they contour to the specific shape of your body. Memory foam toppers are also available. Pros: By moulding to the shape of your body as your weight shifts through the night, memory foam reduces pressure points, and relieves pain. Memory foam also absorbs movement, so if you sleep with a partner, you’re not likely to be disturbed by their tossing and turning. Cons: Because these mattresses are temperature sensitive, softening and moulding with your body heat, they can make you feel extremely hot during the night. Conditions: If you have a hard time getting comfortable, if you have chronic fatigue, or some type of muscle pain, then a memory foam mattress would work well for you, assuming you are not bothered by the heat. Latex Mattresses are made from either natural or synthetic rubber, and are known for providing a very

firm, bouncy support that is uniform throughout the bed. Pros: Breusthinks that one of the best materials is latex. It is very firm and supportive, but also for providing comfort similar to memory foam. Unlike the memory foam mattresses, however, the latex pushes back, ultimately providing more support. Cons: If you don’t like the feel of a firm mattress, latex is probably not the right choice for you. Conditions: Either a latex mattress or latex mattress topper is great for relieving back pain because they offer the best combination of comfort and support, Breus says. Air Mattresses. Not the blow-up mattresses you put your holiday guests on for a few days! Higher-end air beds look like a standard innerspring mattress, but use air-filled chambers instead of coils, and are covered by a foam layer on top. Air beds have long been used for patients with spinal cord injuries who are lying in bed for a long time. They can be adjusted so they don’t continue to press on the same areas of the body, which helps to avoid skin breakdown in patients who can’t move. Pros: Couples who have dramatic differences in their individual preference for comfort and firmness levels might do very well with an air mattress because the firmness of each side of the bed can be altered. Like latex and memory foam, you can also find air toppers for your mattress. Cons: They must be inflated to be firm enough to give sufficient support. Cheaper air mattresses also pop up on one side when you sit on the opposite side. This does not happen with the high-end beds, which have multiple chambers. Conditions: These beds are particularly useful when sleeping partners have different needs. If one of you has a bad back, one side can be made firmer than the other to provide greater support. Adjustable Bedsbend and elevate at varying angles. As a result, the mattress has to be flexible. Different types of mattresses can be used on an adjustable bed – memory foam, latex, or air, for example. Spring mattresses are more difficult to use, however, because the springs don’t handle the bending well. Pros: For people who have difficulty getting in and out of bed or who like to watch television in bed. Conditions: If you suffer from sleep apnea, sleeping flat can make the condition worse by cutting off airways and causing the tongue to fall into the back of the throat. People who experience acid reflux can also benefit by sleeping in a bed that elevates their upper body. People with hip or back pain who have a hard time moving from a lying position to sitting up or standing. Sofa Beds! For short term guests sofa beds come in handy. The mattresses in these beds tend to be very thin so they are flexible enough to fold and collapse into the couch. It’s a great convenience to have a sofa bed, but you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who raves about their comfort! Pros: Convenient, especially if you have limited space. Cons: A night or two on a sofa bed is OK, but they are the worst kind of bed you can sleep on long-term. The mattresses used in most sofa beds are very thin and the springs usually quite weak. If you’re really tight for space and need a bed that folds up, get a futon. Not the best choice, but much better for your back than the typical sofa bed. Conditions:The only conditions for which a sofa bed is good is if you live in a very small space! When to Part With Your Old Mattress Today’s mattresses are made to last a lifetime. But you probably shouldn’t plan on keeping yours for that long. Our bodies change over time, so the mattress that was once a joy to sleep on may no longer feel comfortable a few years down the road. In addition, mattresses collect dust mites, fungus, and other germs that can exacerbate allergies and impact your sleep patterns. After 7 to 15 years, it’s time to think about buying a new bed. Ultimately, the experts say that the best bed for you is the one that feels most comfortable. And remember, Shamie says, “There’s no mattress that’s going to save your body when you get only five hours of sleep. In order to feel your best, you need to get enough rest… no matter what type of mattress you’re sleeping on.’ WebMD

MIRACLES...
After a spell in hospital I decided to take a daily walk around the estate in order to speed up my recovery and return to a certain degree of fitness. On my return journey I would pause at the top of the hill and gaze over the valley a while – resting on the iron railings. I recalled all of my friends who used to stream down the road to work various shifts in the main aluminium factory. Because of the conditions and the smoking habits only a few managed to enjoy the promise of a few years retirement.
TheVisi tation
I would look at every house and recall the names of men I had enjoyed a drink with remembering the days out at the race meeting. Even those I failed to get along with, looking back the quarrels and the arguments seemed to be rather trivial – I would include them in my brief prayer. The average couple were content bringing up their children, caring for grandparents and attending to the needs of the home. The car played a dominant role and a good hose down and hand wash was given priority at the weekend. Only a small minority attended church at the weekend or had any interest in the spiritual side of life. In my idle moments I often wondered why do miracles occur usually in caves or grottos – and what would happen if one should, out of the blue – against all odds take place on a drab housing estate? Having met someone, a very down to earth person who was privileged to witness a miracle – an event which turned science on it’s head and defied reason, I got to thinking…What would the reaction be if an angel appeared to a working mother with a message… in the middle of doing the washing up? ...and so the poem ‘The Visitation’ came to be...
Halfway through the dishes, Anne glanced towards the door, The plates slipped between her fingers, And shattered on the floor. Gazing down with a gentle smile, The object of her fright, By the cooker a Angel stood, Bathed in radiant light. Fear not, peace be with you, Though the visitation strange, It’s usually a cave or grotto, But they opted for a change. We need to reach down to the lowly, And listen to their plight, What better then to build a shrine, And bring them to the light. So heaven chose a working venue, A bleak place in the map, A working mum in a simple home,
In a fourth-floor storey flat. “But no one will believe me! They will say that I am mad !” Anne gazed at the radiant light, The angel’s face was sad. Blessed are they who have not seen, Beneath this humble roof, You will see a wondrous sign, Behold I leave you proof. The tiny fragments on the floor, This miracle relate, This broken piece of porcelain, Is now a perfect plate. Go in faith and spread the word, Blessings in his name, The ghostly image turned into Tongues of golden flame. Anne awoke as from a dream,
Confused and at a loss, For etched perfectly into the plate, Was a simple little cross. The vicar said it was the season, There’s a lot about of late, But they don’t usually go for kitchens, Or a trade mark on a plate.
A warning letter from the council, Quoted rules and regulations, Regarding pets, drugs, excessive noise, And dubious visitations.
Perhaps announcing at bingo, “I’m the millennium Bernadette” But all she said was “One again!” How closer can you get.
The official line was very clear, Publicity involving the Pope, With pilgrims creating chaos, And car parks unable to cope.
Anne tried to tell the children, An angel came to town, Then gave a shush, said “Dads asleep, And turn the telly down”.
The experiment doomed to failure, Hardly the place or time, Four flights of stairs, a wonky lift, Not appropriate for a shrine.
Her husband blamed the change of life, And confided to his mate, She’s stuck two lighted candles, In the kitchen by the plate.
Now Nanny’s plate holds special place, So many years ago, And a tiny cross the vital proof, That an angel said “Hello“.

Innovative Technology If you don’t want to be cold this winter then why not consider investing in clever low energy heating by Oekoswiss Made in Switzerland, these infrared heated glass panels have many advantages over conventional heating systems – not least of which is the low operating costs of between 4 and 11 cents an hour, depending on the size of the panel. Perfect for every room in the house – the panels are unobtrusive and can be fixed on walls and on ceilings – high or low – because infrared heat does not heat the air, it heats inanimate objects and warms everything in the room – no hot air rising to the ceiling whilst feet are frozen.

DON’T FORGET YOUR NEW YEAR RESOLUTION
TV NEWSLETTER – DECEMBER 2013 December ! 11 months of the year gone where ? And Christmas rapidly approaching ………. Are you all prepared ? Matt and I are home this year with Mum Monk and some friends for dinner – well makes a change from turkey – the old ones are the best ones ! We hope you have a great festive season – it will be 2014 when you read the next edition. Any “•old timers” down here in Spain will remember when there was no hint of Christmas in the shops until a week before the day ……… times change and Leyroy Merlin had all the decorations out first week of November – but not so bad as UK..Have you noticed every advert on UK TV is Christmas related. Old man scrooge has had his say ! TV NEWS I must have been saying the same thing for the last four editions “Any changes due to the new “E” satellite are imminent” Well it’s the same story for this edition We in the industry are wondering when the satellite will come on stream. The usual practise is for a satellite to be launched , go to the testing position at 43.5E and after a weeks testing move to its transmission position and be on line working 10 days after launch. The “E” – the one that MAY change our reception of BBC and ITV – was launched during the last week of September and at the time of writing – mid November – is still at 43.5E and testing – over 6 weeks – unprecedented. This has lead to much speculation Astra and the TV companies have been VERY quiet on the subject with no announcements Has the “E” satellite some technical problems ? The big talking point at this moment is will it come on line before Christmas ? And risk a problem with transmissions over the festive period..lots of word says they wont take the risk and it will be New Year before any transmission changes are made – but there again it may all happen a day after this is sent for publication! Watch our website www.rainbowsats.org for information or sign up for email information as it

happens at the bottom of the website. STOP PRESS 20 / 11 / 2013 the satellite is apparently on the move as of yesterday – from the test position at 43.5E to the final position at 28.2E – about 14 days to move ……… then if as previous satellites a couple of days testing and online ! Or will they wait until after Christmas AND SKY have announced an interruption to service for just 20 seconds sometime between 01.00Hrs and 03.00 Hrs on 28th November – why ? possible to do with the new satellite ? I am not sure what to say to the many of you who do not have UK TV at the moment and have been waiting for the possible changes before making a decision The safe option is internet TV if your internet is good enough Ask us for more details. I am annoyed with companies still installing 1.35 m dishes and saying “yes that will be OK” ……….. When they have no idea if that will be the case when the changes happen. I know some of our potential clients have gone elsewhere when we say we do not know what the imminent future will be and we do not know the size of dish that will be required ……….. Or worst case that satellite TV from the BBC and ITV will be available down here at all ..and other companies are saying “that will be OK”. No one knows for sure the outcome of these changes. I suppose that the safest option is to fit a 1.80m dish – the biggest practically possible – and most in the industry feel will be OK..But it may be overkill and it may be inadequate ! Watch this space..The Christmas schedules will soon be published and I really hope we can all get through that period without disruption We have an excellent offer on SKY TV at the moment.Want to upgrade for Christmas or buy him a years SPORTS pack – contact us for details. Heating up your Spanish house
Your Home much cheaper than in England, but if you have a large property, you could find yourself with a hefty bill in March. It may make more sense, particularly if you are on a pension which has already suffered from the weakness of Sterling against the euro, to look at ‘pay as you heat’ options.
in winter There is a range of heating options besides electricity that can keep your house cosy and warm, says Sandra Piddock. Spain in the winter is warmer than England. The days are generally sunny, although the evenings can be cold. If you have a north or east facing home, you’ll probably need some form of heating between November and March.
Why not try a paraffin heater If the thought of the rusty, smelly old heaters of your grandparents’ days puts you off, think again. Go to Brico House, or any other hardware chain, and you’ll find a stylish range of heaters from as little as EUR 90. Twenty litres of paraffin will cost between EUR 38 and 45. It burns with little or no smell, and we anticipate 20 litres will last us for a month. Our living room is quite large, and we like to be cosy, so I’m more than happy with that outlay.
South-facing properties are cosy in the winter, but can be unbearably hot in the summer, even with air conditioning. As it’s easier to warm a house up than cool it down, I prefer to heat the place in the winter and enjoy the coolness for the rest of the year.
Bottled gas heaters
If your property has air conditioning, this can also be used as a heater. However, it’s not all that efficient in a large room, and it can be expensive to run. And if you have breathing problems or suffer from asthma, air conditioning can exacerbate your difficulties.

Log fire
Many Spanish homes, even new builds, have open fireplaces, so you may fancy having a log fire. Wood burning stoves in Spain are very reasonable, starting Electricity in Spain is from around EUR 600, but I would recommend trying a log basket and open fire first, as a wood burner may make your room too hot. Depending on carpetheaven@hotmail.es 966 720 782 your taste, you can pay anything from EUR 30 up to EUR 300 or more for an individually made cast iron log basket. AVENIDA DEL MAR 33B (HIGH ST) LOS MONTESINOS, ALICANTE
CARPET HEAVEN
• Wide range of modern & traditional rugs • Traditionally fitted or edged carpets • Vertical blinds • Burmatex carpet tiles • Cushioned vinyl flooring • Luxury bar stools
Do they need a professional facelift so they look like new again? We then prime and powder coat them to your required colour and taste.
Calor gas in England is expensive, but cost only around EUR 15 in Spain. A bottle should last at least 4 weeks, so it’s an economical option. Buy your first bottle from a Ferreteria (Ironmongers). You’ll have to pay about EUR 40 deposit on it, and you’ll also need to show your passport or some other form of identity. (No, I don’t know why, so don’t ask!)
You can buy slim, panel radiators which are economical to run, but they are mainly for background heat. Oil filled radiators are more efficient, and again are economical to run, but are rather bulky and unattractive.
Are your security grills/gates rusty? We take away your existing grills, sandblast them back to bare metal removing all old paint and rust.
Another option is bottled gas heaters. These are on castors, so can be moved from room to room. Again, there are some attractive models available for around EUR 70, though you’ll have to pay more if you want a heater with variable heat controls.

Ask your neighbours where you can buy logs; maybe several of you can club together to share a delivery and save some money? Ballaster’s, on the CV951 between San Miguel de Salinas and Torremendro is self service. Drive onto their weighbridge before and after loading your logs, and pay around EUR 1 per 10 kilos. 1. Choose your colours A paint can You’ll need two: one principle colour, and another one underneath. The undercoat will show through on the parts that you sand. There are no rules here, although they should be vaguely complimentary. On our course everyone tried a different combination, some with a darker colour underneath, and they all looked great. I used Annie Sloan chalk paints, with Emile underneath and Paris Grey as the main colour. 2. Prepare your furniture Unpainted stool frame Or don’t bother. When using chalk paints you don’t need to prime or rub down surfaces first, although you might want to get rid of any old flaky paint. Oh, and you may want to check for woodworm (which is not a worm at all, but a beetle) and treat accordingly before you paint. 3. Paint the areas you plan to scuff with your undercoat Painting the undercoat You might want to pick the areas where scuffing would naturally occur, at the corners and edges. You’re about to cover this with another coat of paint so don’t forget which bits you have undercoated! 4. Wait for this coat to dry It should take about 20 minutes. We had a tea break at this point and watched the Cornish waves, but if you’re in a hurry use a hairdryer. 5. Apply your second coat Experiment with different brush strokes to create texture. I tried swirling and stippling on my footstool and liked the effect. 6. Apply wax Wax coating the stool legs Once this is dry (more tea), apply a coat of soft clear wax with a soft, lint-free cloth. This seals and protects the paint. 7. The distressing part Sanding the stool Take a piece of medium-grade sandpaper and rub gently on the areas you want to expose, revealing the colour underneath. Don’t go overboard here: less is more, and you can always do more later on. 8. More wax Apply more clear wax and leave to dry, preferably overnight to get a good seal. 9. Get buffing Take a lint-free cloth and buff to give a lovely finish. This part is really satisfying. 10. Optional ageing Kim’s finished stool Ta da! 10. If you want to give your piece a really aged look you can add dark wax to some areas, and then buff as before. sOURCE: http://www. theguardian.com

JAMS & Pickles at HELP MMM FAYRE
HELP MMM’s Christmas Fayre at Paddy Singh’s on 21st November raised €310 and was a great success. There were many stalls selling varied goods ranging from cakes to flower arrangements and cards and diaries. HELP MMM’s tombola was very popular, and Tricia Brister’s stall selling jams and pickles made €80. Apparently the chilli piccalilli and three-fruit marmalade is good enough “to die for!”

JAGUARS - You Can’t Win Them All ! Written by Eric Arnold
The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club in Spain got together again on Sunday 24th November, perfect weather for taking the Big Cat out on the road. Back to restaurant Los Almendros in Torrellano this time, the huge car park makes it easy to organise the Big Cats into an fabulous display. An impressive turnout this time with 23 Cars and 57 people for lunch. May I take this opportunity to thank all those that attended especially the new members and a special mention to Mark Davy who travelled all the way from Almeria, a round trip of 440 Km. While I am on the subject of “thanks”, a big thank you to Ian McMenemy for all his hard work in organising the event. And thank you to John Parkin for a fabulous job on the creation and management of our new dedicated web site - see www.jec-spain.es And I must not forget David Shea who looks after our “presence” on Facebook. As I said “You can’t win them all”, on this occasion Restaurant Los Almendros let us down badly. I am not going in to details but needless to say JEC Spain will not be returning to this establishment in the future. Hence we are looking for a new home, if any restaurant owner out there wants to get in touch and offer their facilities we would be delighted to hear from them. The main criteria to qualify for consideration is adequate parking for up to 40 cars, being optimistic for the future. Or if any reader can suggest a restaurant that they know that they think may be suitable, please get in touch. In order to be as fair as possible to members, we would prefer the location to be around the Alicante area but we will consider anything. The superb selection of Jaguars at this meeting, a collection that would make the pulse of any “petrol head” race. The line up also attracted a lot of admiration from other people visiting the restaurant. 3 fabulous E types, whereas at the other end of the scale we had a superb example of the new XK’R’ drop head and a new XKF. Completing the line up were XK8’s, XJ’s, XJS’s and a number of S Type’s. After the not so satisfactory meal, we moved most of the cars down to the back car park to show them off to their true potential. Our next meeting is will be at the end of January, exact date to be confirmed, something special this time “ A Country Cruise”. We will be visiting Restaurant La Torretta near the town of Elda. This is a return visit for the club as many members expressed a wish to return to this fabulous little eating e s t a b l i s h m en t. After that, who knows. For next year we are planning a Magical Mystery Tour and a weekend away in Almeria to visit the “Hollywood” sets. When we find a new base we can sort out our future plans in more detail. The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club is the largest of the worlds Jaguar Clubs, apart from joining in the fun at the meetings, full members also benefit from a glossy 132 page A4 monthly magazine, Jaguar spares department and a technical advice service second to none. If you live in Spain and 55+ We have receivers own a Jaguar you should be a member of The Jaguar Enthusiasts PRICE Club. The JEC in Spain is organised by Eric Arnold, Chairman and from Ian McMenemy, Events Manager. ‘Strictly Line Up for 2013’ wee k 9 By Lyn Aspden of ‘Strictly Dance’
With only 8 couples left, we are already more than half way through yet another superb series. I just wish the BBC would use some more traditional music for some of the couples. I realise that they are trying to attract a younger audience, and certainly the viewing figures are well up, but this week especially, I found 3 of the performances marred by music which bore no resemblance to the dance they were trying to portray, which disappointed not just me but the judges as well. Opening the show were Susanna Reid and Kevin with their Cha Cha Cha. Susanna is always Miss Personality Plus but this just wasn’t her dance. She had said in rehearsals she was struggling with this dance and so it showed in her performance. She lacked use of knees, feet and ankles to give her the Cha Cha action much like pedalling a bicycle and as a result her knees were constantly bent and not locking out to give a sharp action and hip swing. I gave her a 7 and the judges 31. Next out were Ashley Taylor Dawson and Ola with a Waltz. His posture was much improved and he gave a smooth waltz with swing and glide. However, for me his head is still upsetting me, particularly in promenade
position (where both partners travel forward at the same time) He has a habit of dropping his right ear down towards a lifted shoulder which looks very awkward. That said I still awarded him a 9 and the judges 35. Following were Natalie Gumede and Artem with a Tango. This was the first performance which I felt the music spoiled, as it was impossible to portray the staccato action to a soft piece of music. The judges accused her of lacking commitment but what can you do when the music tells you to do one thing and the dance the opposite? Very difficult for her and she dropped her scores to 9 and 37 as a result for something that was quite clearly beyond her control. Mark Benton & Iveta then performed (if you could call it that!) a Foxtrot. This was flat footed, plonky with very poor lines for this stage of the competition and time to go Mark! He does enjoy his performances but this showed no slide, glide or flow. I gave him what I considered a very generous 5 and the judges in my opinion overmarked him with 28. Next were Sophie Ellis Bextor with Brendan and their Rumba. She has everything it takes, the shape, the legs, the action yet still fails to
deliver. I have wondered what it was with her and realised that she is what we term a mechanical dancer. ie she does everything technically correct but nothing from her heart which leaves her performances looking very cold as opposed to Natalie who dances from her heart. Such a pity as I feel she could have been a strong contender. I gave her 8 and the judges 31.
Waltz. A nicely told story but unfortunately there was very little Viennese Waltz content. When Patrick was in ballroom hold the dance started to unravel as his frame was very loose, his left arm too low and collapsing when dancing and coupled with his flat feet not his best dance of the series for me. I gave him 7 and the judges 32.
Ben Cohen and Kristina then danced a Charleston. There have been so many different styles of Charleston this year and they have all been superb, this was no exception. A dance packed with energy and superb lift work but marred by a piece of awful music. Ben is still a little flat footed which leaves his action slightly stilted but nevertheless an enjoyable performance. I awarded him 8 and the judges a mean 27.
This week the bottom 2 of the judges were Mark Benton and Ben Cohen. The public bottom 2 were the same, but due to the fact that both couples went wrong in the dance off, Ben worse than Mark, he ended up being voted out on a 3- 1 split (which I totally disagreed with, 1 danced the other walked!), and was voted out of the competition.
Following were Abbey Clancy and Aljaz with a Paso Doble. Another great performance marred by yet again a piece of music so far removed from a Paso Doble it was incredible. The story telling was superb and her lines and portrayal were really good. I awarded her 9 but felt the judges punished her for poor music with 32. Closing this weeks show were Patrick Robinson and Anya and their Viennese
With all the couples now setting their eyes on the glitter ball trophy, much will depend upon the dances being performed and whether the dances suit the celebs. With such a strong group of dancers left in the competitions, a bad dance for them at this stage will leave them vulnerable. Next weeks theme will be musicals, but let’s hope the music is suitable to the dances being performed. Until next week - Keep Dancing!

PETS CORNER
Dogs are Boring, Cats are Common?
If that is your attitude, then check out this list of Top 10 Peculiar Pets. Perhaps you fancy a pet skunk, or maybe acockroach?Believe it or not, there are many people who do call these unconventional creatures their pets. In descending list order, here goes: 10: Capybara - Related to the guinea pig, this native South American is the largest rodent in the world. Fully grown, the capybara is on average 4 feet (1.2 meters) long and usually weighs more than 100 pounds (45 kilograms). I think NO! 9: Stick Insect - Popular with children for years, because of its unique appearance and simple care needs. These intriguing insects abound in the Campo, and can live for several years in the right conditions. They need tall enclosures, at least double the height of the insect, because they like to hang. They are omnivores and thrive on a diet of anything green, even lettuce. They don’t like being alone and need other stick insects for companionship. Their enclosures should be kept at room temperature and cleaned out weekly. They moult many times before they reach maturity and need enough room to literally climb out of their skin. OK – you can have one, but you can’t take it for walks. 8: Miniature Donkey - Shrek and Fiona might have accepted a donkey into their family in the movie, “Shrek,” but wasn’t that just a fairy tale? Not necessarily. The American Pet Products Association reports that more than 3 million people in the United States own equine animals, including miniature donkeys. Don’t let the name fool you: Miniature donkeys aren’t that small. They are about 3 feet tall (1.5 metres) and weigh between 200 and 350 pounds (90 and 158 kilograms) at maturity. Only for you if your neighbour are stone deaf – a donkey’s bray carries for over 1 kilometre, and a miniature donkey does not have a miniature bray! Also, they love the sound of their own voice, and will bray constantly, just because they can! 7: Hedgehogs - Few and far between, these useful little garden helpers are best off in the garden. If you encounter one in your
garden, unless it is injured, leave it alone. Put out some cat food and a very shallow saucer of milk, if you are lucky it might stay. 6: Pygmy Goat - Fine, if you have a fenced garden, and don’t mind them eating absolutely everything that is growing in it! Though for entertainment value, they are top of the list! It’s up to you, but think carefully! 5: Potbellied Pig - Great for turning the garden over. They can be housetrained, and are very intelligent, some say more so than a dog. However, they don’t retrieve sticks! Are you sure? The cute tiny piglet is going to grow into a stonking great pig, and they are very heavy! If you are certain, well, maybe? 4. Sugar Gliders - These are part of the possum family, and are quickly becoming one of America’s favourite peculiar pet species. They are native to Australia and get their name because of a special membrane that extends from the front leg to the hind leg, allowing them to glide from tree to tree. The average fullgrown glider will weigh only about 3 ounces (85 grams) and reach around 7 inches (17 centimeters) in length. I think NO 3: Wallaby - If you can find one.But not really. 2. Skunk - NO! 1. Madagascar Hissing Cockroach - Absolutely Not! I know it doesn’t bite or sting, but no! What about a nice Burmese water python instead? They are very pretty. If you are intent on having a peculiar pet, then go to Animal Planet for ideas, and care tips.

Jamie’s mulled wine
This is dead simple to make and tastes like Christmas in a glass. It’s a lovely celebration of those traditional festive spices like cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. If you’ve got your own favourite spices, then feel free to add those to the pot too. Let everything cook away and warm up gently so the flavours have time to mingle with the wine. I like to leave my mulled wine ticking over on a really low heat and just ladle some into glasses as and when guests pop in.
Ingredients:
Serves 10 • 2 clementines • 1 lemon 20mins • 1 lime • 200 g caster sugar Super easy • 6 whole cloves • 1 stick cinnamon • 3 fresh bay leaves • 1 whole nutmeg, for grating • 1 vanilla pod, halved lengthways • 2 star anise • 2 bottles Chianti or other Italian red wine
Nutritional Information Amount per serving:
Christmas in a glass
25
“ Come the festive season, there’s nothing better than a spiced, warming glass of this mulled wine”
• Calories 186 9% • Carbs 20.6g 9% • Sugar 20.2g 22% • Fat 0.2g 0% • Saturates 0.0g 0% • Protein 0.5g 1%
Method Peel large sections of peel from your clementines, lemon and lime using a speed peeler. Put the sugar in a large saucepan over a medium heat, add the pieces of peel and squeeze in the clementine juice. Add the cloves, cinnamon stick, bay leaves and about 10 to 12 gratings of nutmeg. Throw in your halved vanilla pod and stir in just enough red wine to cover the sugar. Let this simmer until the sugar has completely dissolved into the red wine and then bring to the boil. Keep on a rolling boil for about 4 to 5 minutes, or until you’ve got a beautiful thick syrup. The reason I’m doing this first is to create a wonderful flavour base by really getting the sugar and spices to infuse and blend well with the wine. It’s important to do make a syrup base first because it needs to be quite hot, and if you do this with both bottles of wine in there you’ll burn off the alcohol. When your syrup is ready, turn the heat down to low and add your star anise and the rest of the wine. Gently heat the wine and after around 5 minutes, when it’s warm and delicious, ladle it into glasses and serve.

The idea is to lose weight and have fun too! FAST were invited by the ‘THE FAT CLUB’ to also join their meeting on this particular morning in order to provide a Demonstration, giving information and advice by Chris & Bob Halsey, Val & Bob Taylor, Paddy & John Snell The main idea was to show that it need not be difficult to carry out emergency first aid and the message was that ‘it is always better to try to do something rather than walk past or stand by and do nothing, also to carry out the best you can do at that particular time’. How to give C.P.R. was demonstrated on three different sized manikins – adult, child and baby, demonstrating how to carry out rescue breaths according to the size of the person. Showing what to do if someone is choking, using the choking apparatus, created some fun too. Several people tried this out which helped them to experience just what to do in this situation gaining confidence and knowledge should this be needed! SOLTIMES NOVEMBER 2013
It is high in Beta-carotene and Vitamin C. The beta-carotene in butternut squash converts the pigments in the squash into vitamin A. It provides almost 750 micrograms of vitamin A to your diet, which is more than the recommended daily intake of 700 micrograms.
American Heart Association.
Vitamin A is essential for healthy vision, immune system and skeletal system and may lower the risk of lung cancer, according to Harvard Medical School.
Cooking and Serving Ideas. You can fry, bake, boil, steam, saute, puree or microwave this versatile vegetable.
One cup of butternut squash provides 30 milligrams of the 75 milligrams recommended daily allowance of vitamin C to your meals. Vitamin C helps prevent cataracts, helps wounds heal and strengthens blood vessels.
Choosing your Squash.Select one that has no soft spots or splits in the rind and still has the stem. It should feel heavy, which means it is meaty inside. If it still has a green tinge on the skin, it is not quite ripe and won’t be as flavourful.
Roasted Butternut Squash
Or make a soup, either on its own, or add a few herbs, some roughly chopped cooked bacon, some dried mushrooms, whatever you fancy! Add cubed butternut squash to vegetable stew, casseroles and slow-cooker recipes.
Rich in Fibre. One cup of cubed butternut squash has almost 3 grams of fibre, which helps curb your appetite and regulates blood sugar levels.
You can also mash it with butter and brown sugar for a wholesome side to your main entree, or bake it with apples, cinnamon and pecans.
Men and women require different amounts of fibre in their diets – men need about 38 grams daily, while women require about 25 grams. Beneficial fibre can also help lower your blood pressure and decrease stroke risk, according to the
Or make it into a butternut squash pie for a fibre-rich and nutritious dessert option. whatever you decide to do with it, take your biggest and sharpest knife to cut it up – carefully!
Butternut Squash and Pesto Pizza Recipe This pizza recipe is so fresh and full of flavor. Basil pesto brings a ton of flavor by itself, but when you add sweet butternut squash, bright tomatoes and creamy mozzarella cheese everything really pops. You can even make this in 30 minutes (maybe less), making this a great weekday meal
Prep time 10 mins Cook time 20 mins Total time 30 mins
The last day my local farmers market was open, I asked my favorite vegetable and flower provider what I could buy up that would last the longest. He suggested some squash and a few other hearty vegetables. For almost 2 weeks now I have had a beautiful butternut squash sitting in my fridge and have yet to be inspired on what to do with it. Then I found this recipe. It is amazingly simple and the butter and spices bring out all natural sweetness and richness naturally found in butternut squash.
Ingredients
2 Tbsp butter 2 lbs fresh butternut squash chunks* 1 1/2 Tbsp sugar 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
method 1 Heat oven to 400 degrees. You will need a rimmed baking pan lined with nonstick foil. 2 Put butter in pan. Place in oven until melted. Remove pan from oven and add remaining ingredients. Toss to coat and spread into an even layer. 3 Roast 25 to 30 minuted, tossing once or twice, until squash is tender. Transfer to serving bowl. Source: http://ifihadtopickfive.wordpress.com
Ingredients • 1 (13.8 oz) can Pillsbury Artisan Crust with Wholegrain (Substitute 12 ounces of refrigerated pizza dough) • 1 tablespoon olive oil • 3 cups (466 grams) diced butternut squash (about half of a medium squash) • 1/2 teaspoon salt • 1/2 cup (118 ml) vegetable or chicken stock • 1 cup (60 grams) shredded mozzarella cheese • 3 tablespoons basil pesto • 10 cherry tomatoes, halved
Method 1. Heat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Then, spray a baking sheet (with sides) with cooking spray. 2. Form pizza dough into a 15-inch by 10-inch rectangle (this doesn’t have to be exact, just close). Place dough onto baking sheet then bake for 8 minutes. 3. W hile the pizza crust bakes, add olive oil to a large frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the butternut squash and a 1/2-teaspoon of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, 4 to 6 minutes or until the squash begins to brown. 4. Add vegetable (or chicken stock) and cook another 5 minutes until the squash can be pierced with a fork and is tender. venly spread the pesto over the baked pizza crust then scatter the butternut E squash, mozzarella cheese and cherry tomato halves on top. Bake the pizza 6 to 10 minutes until cheese has melted and starts to bubble Read more: http://www.inspiredtaste.net

Technology is a merciless adversary – one tiny flicker of weakness, one miniscule chink in my armour of invincibility, and Technology, armed with the sword of uncertainty, springs to the offensive with a deadly attaque. My latest thrust and parry with Technology came about when I needed to buy tickets on-line. All was going fine and smooth until it came to paying for them. Barclaycard in hand, I typed in the required numbers exactly as they appeared on the card, and clicked Continue. Incorrect number the screen said, in red. Knowing that I’m not good with numbers, and might have mis-typed, I did it again - Incorrect number the screen repeated with a smirk. I fetched Pete, who declared the numbers to be exactly as they appeared on the card. We scratched our heads, and I began to lose my temper. With undisguised petulance I typed the numbers a third time, without the spaces, and jabbed Continue unnecessarily hard. Accepted, it said – Ha! A successful parry! That’ll teach it! I was wrong. With a sardonic sigh it announced that the ‘site has expired’, so I had to start all over again, right

from the beginning. I gritted my teeth, and with rising blood pressure punched in all the required information, including the un-spaced card numbers, and dared it to Continue. I was so concentrated on direct opposition that I was completely blindsided by its next move. It wanted the 4th, 5th and 6th letters of my secret password, the only thing standing between me and faceless cyber-villains. Having been told by the computer that this password was so important and so secret that I must hide it in a place so safe that even the combined efforts of the CIA, MI6 and Sherlock Holmes would be unable to locate it, it is not surprising that I couldn’t find it either! So I guessed. Incorrect Password it chuckled. I guessed again. It could scarcely contain its delight as it displayed Incorrect Password a second time. My third go was no more lucky; then the site made a tactical error – It asked sarcastically whether I had forgotten my password, and asked me condescendingly if I wanted to change my password. If I don’t know it, how can I change it? I put in a completely new one, and within seconds my order, my money and my new Oh So Secret password had been accepted. I can’t help wondering – if I can simply change my password, why bother to remember it? If I were a faceless cyber-villain, intent on raiding my details, couldn’t I pretend to have forgotten it, and invent a new one?
This’n That and Nothing in Particular I am constantly being asked how the heck I find things to write about each week, and where do the ideas come from. Well, actually I have only been asked once or twice, but it’s a fair question and I always answer in the same way: that the subject matter is all around us and it’s just a question of observing and remembering – or in my case writing things down on bits of paper that are strewn around my desk. Any subject is fair game; it could be a chance remark by someone within my hearing, a humorous event or an item in the news - everything is collected, collated and treated as a potential newspaper piece. Of course when it comes to reminiscing about past events, there is a seemingly endless supply of good stuff from which to choose. And look, I have got myself two paragraphs already. I have just been reading an interesting but scary article on why we should not microwave food. It seems that we have been nuking our innards for years now, because microwaving changes the molecular
structure of things which can then produce cancer inducing and other icky substances. Not that it will affect us too much personally because making our breakfast porridge was pretty much the full extent of our dealings with this recently unmasked dealer in death. Speaking of which, what is it in porridge that makes it set like concrete and have all the adhesive qualities of super glue? Even non-stick pans wave the white flag of surrender after boiling up a slew of morning oats, and if milk is used instead of water, then the result is a new and impossible to shift false bottom, which if prised off will take the Teflon coating with it. Need to re-render the walls of your house? Forget the ferreteria, just nip along to Kwik Save! Actually there have been other occasions when it has been convenient to use the microwave; for heating up the odd pie for instance and once when I forgot to prick a potato, the resulting explosion was heard in Morocco. Anyway, we are taking this warning seriously and like a Rastafarian diner in a Bermudian greasy spoon pointed out to the equally greasy proprietor many years ago, “Me dun eat no radio food man”. Even after all these years, weekends still seem somehow incomplete without those legendary BBC radio programmes

that many of us remember, particularly on rainy days and when there is nothing of much cop on the box. Such regulars as: Round the Horn; Life with the Lions; A Life of Bliss (featuring a young George Cole) and The Navy Lark to name but a few. And Sundays would never have been complete without Two Way Family Favourites and The Billy Cotton Band Show. There’s just so much Lady Gaga and Dizzee Rascal that an old timer can take, and wouldn’t it be nice if we could have the occasional radio drama or live entertainment show – something too that stimulates the imagination like Journey into Space. Who remembers that? I reckon every schoolboy and his dad in the country tuned in regularly on Monday nights to Operation Lunar or The Red Planet, and did you know that it was the last UK radio programme to attract a bigger audience than television. I bought the BBC tapes some years ago and in spite of my initial fears that it would now be terribly dated, I soon found that I was being drawn into the drama of it again. And hearing those familiar voices from the past, such as Andrew Faulds, Alfie Bass and David Jacobs - I was a science fiction mad schoolboy once again. We thought we would give a new Chinese restaurant a bash the other night and whilst many of them are much of a muchness, the
food was excellent. But what made it particularly interesting was the reaction of one of the waitresses to my shirt. See, I have this shirt that has a bamboo pattern and some Chinese characters on it; alright it may not be to everyone’s taste but I like it. Anyway, she kept staring at this shirt, and I wondered not for the first time, just what the Chinese writing said. She blushed up when I asked her, and declined to translate it for me. I couldn’t help but notice as we left that the staff were watching us with strange expressions and through the open kitchen door eyeing us threateningly, was Odd Job the chef toting an evil looking meat cleaver. I still like the shirt, but I shall remember not to wear it on any more Asian meal excursions or trips to the Grand Bazaar Chino if we run short of plastic clothes pegs.

Spreadsheet Sam had been burning the midnight oil. Not midnight oil from Rodriquez’s Mill, that is such bad quality it doesn’t burn, it just emits a foul smelling dense black smoke. Sam had completed the massaging of the Olive Mill’s books better than the nimble fingers of the most adroit Thai masseuse. On the strength of these accounts the Olivarera de Alqueria has a turnover equal to that of eBay and a profitability greater than the JPMorgan Chase Banking Group. Rodriquez felt rather proud as he viewed the Company’s accounts. He knew his business acumen would save the day. He knew he was shrewd despite being called a total idiot by anyone who has spent more than two minutes in his company. Spreadsheet Sam had to point out that the figures were in fact fictitious. To Rodriquez however they were in black and white and therefore must be true. Rodriquez’s part in this subterfuge involved making the Mill look less like a public convenience on the outskirts of Port Said and more like a modern efficient, processing facility. A tall order. He opted for camouflage and only painted those parts of the Mill that could be seen from the road. From a distance the buildings looked well maintained and inviting, the closer one gets however the more depressing and dilapidated they appeared. The investors would be steered to Rodriquez’s office, the only part of the plant that had money spent on it. The investors were from Nigeria. Rodriquez had answered one of those emails promising millions for investment. Liberal quantities of Remitroot Wine and Rum softened up the Nigerians prior to the tasting of the all important olive oil. Venta del Baron Extra Virgin Olive Oil had been decanted into Rodriquez’s own bottles. The investors were suitably impressed with the quality and the contracts duly signed. Rodriquez sold the mill for the equivalent of fifty million Alquerian Raros to be paid in Nigerian Nairas. Rodriquez forgot about Alqueria’s hyper-inflation. As the ink was drying on the contracts Rodriquez’s phone rang. The USA had lifted the ban on Remitroot and its associated products. The Alquerian Raro shot up in value especially against the Nigerian Naira. Rodriquez hurried to the bank as the Raro rose in value breaking all records for any currency. Spreadsheet Sam made himself scarce, stealing a bicycle he reached Murcia Airport before he realised the chain had fallen off. When the conversion from the Nigerian currency to the Raro was completed the horrible truth became apparent. Rodriquez had sold the Olive Mill, his birthright and the biggest employer in Alqueria for the equivalent of two Euros and fifty-three cents.

A Clanger
I didn’t realise, until a recently overheard conversation on a bus, how much a Formula 1 Grand Prix reminds me of The Clangers. Do you remember The Clangers? Strange little crocheted puppets that communicated through unintelligible whistles and seemed to be endlessly getting soup from a Soup Dragon. Viewers were generally completely baffled by the programme. Apparently, so were BBC executives .When they first saw it, those in the corridors of power at the BBC immediately insisted that all the swear words were removed from the programme. Swear words? They were whistling! You could be forgiven for not believing this but it’s true and it says an awful lot about what was going through the minds of those executives don’t you think? Next they’ll be telling us that Captain Pugwash wasn’t innocent fun. Back to the conversation; it was between, what appeared to be, a Formula 1 driver and another passenger. By now you’re probably way ahead of me and asking the question I should have asked myself-a multi millionaire racing driver...on a bus? Is that really likely? Embarrassingly enough, I didn’t even consider that possibility I listened as they drooled over things like, the deafening roar of the engines as cars flashed by like bullets, the screeching of the tyres, the air full of the smell of petrol, oil and burning rubber and I couldn’t help thinking, what’s the attraction? Then my thoughts began to take on a life of their own and wander off into their own little patch of nothingness, you know the way they sometimes do, and it happened. I realised that The Clangers and a passion for Formula 1 racing have something very important in common-they’re both a total mystery to me. Nevertheless, I couldn’t ignore the overheard conversation and slowly I too began to wonder just why Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button or, maybe even, Graham is married Jeremy Clarkson, was travelling on a bus. I didn’t have to wait long for my to Helen and has a answer. It was none of those people. The speaker was indeed a competitor daughter, Alice. He in the World Championships, but it was the Scalextric World Championships, lives part of the year which people seem to take very seriously-they have leader boards and battle near Albox, but works it out for the best times, using Lamborghini, Ferrari and various other Italian in Qatar, teaching. 790,000 years ago what is now magnetic north was the magnetic south. Convection from the huge molten ball of iron which sits in the centre of the earth helps determines magnetic north/south. This change or ‘flip’ happens every half million years or so, it’s called a Geomagnetic Reversal and one is overdue. When the magnetic poles flip; the strength of the earth’s magnetic field drops for years whilst everything rebalances. The magnetic field normally prevents dangerous space radiation reaching the planet so there’s a chance life on earth would be affected. The field has weakened15% since the 1800’s; at the poles in the last 15 years it’s dropped a further 10%. Animal migration patterns would be disrupted when the next flip occurs as they would move in the opposite direction. GPS satellites would fail and power grids may collapse, the ozone layer would thin. Scientists believe the flip is about to happen again. About 40,000 years ago during the last Ice age, the magnetic poles flipped in what is known as the Laschamp Event taking about 200 years to do so, in that time the magnetic field was just 10% the strength it is now which meant the earth’s atmosphere was largely unprotected and large amounts of radiation reached the earth. 200 years later it flipped back again. Australians were warned 30 years ago to wear extra sun factor and to avoid the sun’s rays when CFCs in the atmosphere had created a hole above them in the ozone layer. This could happen on a much larger scale with some areas less affected than others. Planet Mars is barren with its atmosphere boiled away into space. Theory has it that as Mars lost its magnetic field the increased solar radiation heated the planet up. Scientists here on earth are worried and last weekend
three satellites were launched to measure the gravitational field to try and assess what’s happening. Nicknamed Swarm the satellites look like giant rats as the sensitive detectors are located on a long thin tail so they’re not affected by the magnetism off the main body of the satellite. The magnetism in rocks and tidal movements also affect the north/south polarity and it’s hoped all factors can be mapped and a theory worked out. The position of the North Pole (and so by definition the South Pole) is also changing, for 20 years it was moving about 6 centimetres south east a year. Then in 2005 it changed course and it’s now heading towards Greenland at 20 cms a year. The North Pole’s moved by up to 55 degrees in our planets lifetime, once it sat between Iceland and Norway and another time in Hudson Bay Canada. This is called Pole Shift and when these changes happen slowly the change is unnoticeable. In the case of a Sudden Pole Shift, the Poles locations change quickly with earthquakes, volcanic events and tidal waves. Pole Shift describes the earth’s outer crust moving not the whole planet tilting differently on its axis. Rather like rubbing the tissue wrapped around a Christmas Satsuma. Albert Einstein supported the theory of Sudden Pole Shift; there are ancient writings that support this thinking. Mammoths in Siberia have been discovered frozen solid with clover still in their mouths. Sudden Pole Shift would have meant that these Mammoths were happily eating their meadow grasses when the earth’s crust suddenly slipped and they and the land they were on were transported hundreds or thousands of miles north where they froze to death. The film 2012 is based on a Sudden Pole Shift Event!

Backup and Synchronisation
Last time we discussed the virtues of data backup and synchronisation. Today, we will provide an example of how to run the program discussed last time and how to set up the synchronisation of the program that we discussed last week. Before you can consider synchronising 2 folders with the sister program “RealTimeSync”, you have to start the program “FreeFileSync”. Start the program called “FreeFileSync” and you will see a 2 pane (To and From) display. At the top is the name of the program, under that is a large button marked “Compare” and under that is the left-hand drop-down box. Use the left-hand drop-down box to select where you want to synchronise from and use the righthand dropdown box (which is to the right of it and looks identical) to select where the backup device is. When these 2 boxes have the locations of TO and FROM click on the large “Compare” button and just watch. The left hand window pane should have filled and the right hand window pane should be blank (first time only). Next click on the large “Synchronize” button. You now see everything from the FROM being copied to the TO. Here’s an example that might help. On my drive ‘C’ I have video clips extracted from a movie that I want a copy of, on drive ‘D’. So, using the left-hand dropdown box under where it says ‘Drag and Drop’ I click on the ‘Browse’ button. I see a normal box showing me where everything is, so I choose ‘C’ drive and press ‘OK’. Now for where it is to go. Do the same things – BUT with the right-hand box! Click on the Compare button. When the comparison is complete, click on the Synchronise button. In moments, it’s done! Now you are happy that you can now synchronise these 2 folders whenever you want the should now save this configuration. Go to the menu bar at the top of the window and click on Programs then click on SaveAs. Give it an easy to remember name! When you have done that go back to Programs then click on Save as batch job. Use the same memorable name as before. This file that has the extension ffs_batch is what you will use now. The program “RealTimeSync” is a small window that needs which folders to watch and a command line. I this example the I put “C:\” (no quote marks) next to the green cross. I then click on the green cross to get another empty box in which I type “D:\”. Now the program knows where to look to make the comparison. It now needs a list of tasks to perform. This information goes in the text box at the bottom of the window and, for this example, will read “C:\Program Files\FreeFileSync\FreeFileSync.exe” “C:\Program Files\FreeFileSync\Memorable Name.ffs_batch” Click on the “Start” Button and know that it will monitor any changes to the folders you have asked to be monitored and backup the changes quickly, accurately and safely. There will always be ‘Paid’ versions of all the programs that are free. These will invariably have more functions, bell and whistles. It is up to you choose whether you pay or not BUT always consider making a donation to the programs author just to let them know that their work has been appreciated. I look forward to seeing you at “Jacks Bar” on Friday’s between 12 and 4. Where problem diagnosis is free, 35 years experience is free, and the bill will be less! Send me an email or ring me – the number is at the bottom. See you soon. For further information or advice on computing, contact Trevor on 689 892 745 or canducomputing@hotmail.co.uk

MATCH PLAY LEAGUE PLAYED AT RODA At last we were back playing at Roda The last time we played here which was two years ago the weather was awful and most players were soaked to the skin. The weather this time round was much better although the wind was very strong. The golf however was surprise after surprise in that the leading three teams were all beaten and it was left to the teams in the middle and lower regions of the table to record wins.Games of note were the defeat of leaders Roco Juna beaten by newcomers Costa Blanca & second placed Hacienda going down to San
Javier .La Zenia who were in third place lost to an improving La Manga. .Marinasol had a hard fought draw with Sierra Golf .But it was left to Club 25 who had the benefit of a team visit to Roda a week in advance to record the biggest win of all with a whitewash of poor old Sprightly Crew. Next match is at Las Ramblas on the 9th of Dec and to kick us into the new year first game is between leaders Roco Juna & second placed Club 25 What an exiting League this is.

FC TORREVIEJA
TORRY KEEP THEIR UNBEATEN HOME RECORD IN TACT BUT HAVE TO SETTLE FOR ANOTHER DRAW Last Sunday Torry entertained Borriol who were just outside the relegation zone and hadn’t won for 8 matches. Their president and a registered player is the famous golfer Sergio Garcia who was on the bench for the game.
kick was headed on towards the back post where it was struck into the Torry net from close range by a Borriol forward for the equaliser. That is how the score remained. Not too much to choose between the sides with Borriol shading the first half and Torry the second half. For Torry, Carrasco picked up a caution .Torry slip to 8th place in the table. At the weekend Torry travel to second bottom Acero and will be
looking for a win to stay in touch with the leading pack and keep their challenge for a top four finish alive.. To catch up on up to date information about Torry visit the Torry Army website www. fctorrevieja.net or the clubs website www.futbolclubtorrevieja.net. A disappointed Darrylldinho, following his adopted team in Spain draw at home again.
Torry’s form of late has slipped of late with too many draws. They were looking to preserve their unbeaten home record. They had a number of key players missing through injury, notably defensive king-pin Alexis and also forwards Rafa Gomez and Pastor. Defender Eloy made his first start for some time after having recovered from injury. Torrevieja: Carrión, Vicente, Valdeolivas, Eloy, Rafa, Dani Meseguer, Burguillos, Obele, Carrasco (Manu Amores 76 ‘), Alberto, Gasch (Micro 65’). Not used: Carlos Moreno, Dani Lucas, Guillem The game was even early on with neither side really taking the initiative.
Mazarron returned to winning ways with a good win against CD Lumbreras. In the first of a sequence of games against teams in the lower half of the league, two goals from Juan Andreo and captain Alfonso were enough to secure the three points in a match in which both teams squandered many chances.
headed powerfully into the net by central defender Juan Andreo to give Mazarron a 1-0 lead at half time.
In the opening exchanges a well hit shot from Tico was comfortably saved by the visiting keeper and another and another sailed just wide of the target. Lumbreras also had their chances but all were dealt with easily by Mazarron’s young goalkeeper keeper Ruben.
In the second half both teams once again squandered many opportunities. For Mazarron, Alfonso ran onto a through ball but his well hit shot was saved by the keeper and Alcon blazed a shot across the goal with no one able to force the ball into the gaping net. At the other end, Lumbreras had a great opportunity when Alcaraz was unable to cut out a through ball but the ever improving Ruben in the Mazarron goal once again came to the rescue with a fine save.
Mazarron took the lead around the half hour mark when a shot from Randry was fired high and wide. The referee, somewhat fortunately for the home team, awarded a corner and, from this, the cross was
Shortly afterwards Alfonso, who had just missed a much easier opportunity, made the game safe for Mazarron when he cut in from the left and sent a fierce shot into the net. The game ended with
Lumbreras missing another absolute sitter and Mazarron, despite the absence of leading scorer Jose Ruben through suspension, ran out 2-0 winners. Although never at their best in this game, it was an in important victory for Mazarron and they moved into ninth place in the league also closing the gap on some of the teams in the promotion race. Next weekend they visit lowly CD Esparragal, who are next to bottom of the league, with a chance to close the gap on the promotion pack even further. Team: Ruben, Gilberto (Dani), Juan Andreo, Alcaraz, Randry (Salvi), Alfonso, Tico, Moha (Fran),Adrian (Juanillo), Alcon, Cecilio. Man of Match; Juan Andreo
After 10 minutes Borriol won a corner which Carrion did not punch out convincingly and the ball fell to a Borriol player on the edge of the box and his shot on target was finger-tipped onto the cross-bar and over for a corner by Carrion. After 14 minutes Carrasco had the ball in the net for Torry after winning an aerial challenge with the Borriol keeper from a ball played in by Vicente but he was adjudged to have fouled the keeper and it was ruled out. After 25 minutes Borriol took the lead after a throw into the box wasn’t cleared and the loose ball was rifled into the corner of the net by a Borriol forward. After 38 minutes Torry equalised when a ball into the box by Vicente was headed on by Rafa and a Borriol defender put the ball into his own net under pressure from Carrasco. 1-1 at the break. After 58 minutes Torry took the lead after a ball into the Borriol box wasn’t cleared and Alberto latched onto the ball just outside the box and half-volleyed it superbly into the bottom corner of the goal. Torry then appeared to settle down and be more comfortable in possession and looked to extend their lead. After a good move Alberto whipped a very dangerous ball across goal but it evaded everybody. Obele then had a chance but his effort was blocked well by the Borriol keeper. With 15 minutes left Borriol won a corner and the corner-

La Marquesa Press Report. 67 players took part in our November Monthly Stableford on Thursday 21 November 2013 at our home course of La Marquesa Golf Course. The weather was still a bit blustery as winter has definitely descended upon us; we have gone from wonderful summer weather to blowing a gale in the space of a week. Happy birthday to our Captain, John Fairhurst, we wish you many many more John.

28 players turned out for a great day today with Fairwayz Golf society at Vistabella, and i’m not just saying that because our team won, but because the weather was ideal and the company was good. The course was in excellent condition and the greens were fast. It was cold to start with early morning, but an hour into the game we were taking off layers of clothing and soaking up the sun. What could be better in mid November? We played individual stableford and 3-2-1 which is best scores count. I have to say that our team won by a clear 9 points overall, thanks to an exceptional score by Gerry Williams of 40 pts. Not to say that the other members of our team didn’t contribute, we all had our moments. Some very decent scores came in from other teams and individuals as well. Team winners photo L to R - Steve Lawrence, Gerry Williams, Norman Padmore, Bill Howie. The results were as follows:1st - Gerry Williams 40pts.
2nd - Dave Titchen 36Pts on c/b. 3rd - Steve Lawrence 36pts. 1st team 88pts - Gerry Williams - Bill Howie - Norman Padmore Steve Lawrence. 2nd Team 79pts - Steve Hamilton - John Pedersen - Dave Titchen Graham Butterworth. Best front 9 - Steve Hamilton 16pts. c/b. Best back 9 - Ryan Rogers 22pts. Nearest the pin - Gerry Williams. Nearest the pin in 2 - Steve Lawrence. No 2 balls this week. Next week we are at Altorreal, and the following week we are at Alenda. The sheet for Benidorm is on the notice board at Fairwayz, we are going on 20th and 21st March 2014 for an overnight stay and 2 games. Names need to be put up early due to limited places.
TMGS Match Report Alicante Golf 20th November 2013.
I do believe that the 20 odd members of TMGS that decided to turn up and enjoy a good test of golf at the Seve designed Alicante Gold Course expected a cold and windy day but instead were treated to a very nice sunny and semi windless day. It must be said that a visit to this absolute jewel hidden in concrete should be a “must” on any golfers list of courses to play. Arrive at the course (when you can find it!) and you are treated to a smile and a very honest welcome by the staff which, in itself, is a rare occurrence in the majority of courses in Spain. The results on the day were a fair reflection on the difficulty of the course and it only needed 31 points for Shelia Dean to claim 4th spot in the Silver Division, with Alan Rickers 3rd on 33 points and the count back system was needed to separate Captain Mick Kennedy and Pearl Sabine, with the latter claiming the top spot in that Division. The Gold crowd didn’t fare as good and it only needed 29 points for Bill Starkey to claim 4th spot, with John Eyre and James Hunter both scoring 35 points for 3rd and 2nd places with Steve Higgins hitting 35 points to take home the winners prize. We do have to thank Dag Lovas, one of our Norwegian members for sponsoring the NTP’s (all 6 of them!)

and the recipients of a sleeve of Srixon Soft Feels were James Hunter (twice), Shelia Dean, John Eyre and Pearl Sabine. A sleeve of balls was also claimed by Pearl Sabine, Steve Higgins and Richard Wale for their “2’s”. If there was a competition for the most atrocious and loud dresser of the day, there is only one winner; John Eyre. Remember that washing powder advert of the woman calling her man a “clown” for his over the top colour scheme? Well, it is rumoured that John “Fat Boy” Eyre auditioned for that very same advert and was told, in no uncertain terms, that they (Ariel) were in the need of a clown and not a full circus of them. Even his glasses matched his attire and to be honest, Sir Elton John has nothing on this geezer. Even Stevie Wonder would have been traumatized by the colour scheme. Photo is of our Nearest the pin winners. The Best Visitor prize went Mr R Baybrook with 22 points. Our next game, Wednesday 29th November 2013, see’s us at Villamartin where we have about 3 slots leftso if you fancy a game just look at our website www.tmgs. org or call the Match Secretary on 966719604.
