SEPA. MEANS SAFE AND EFFICIENT PAYMENTS IN SPAIN.
What is SEPA?
specific to each country
The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is making euro payments faster, safer and more efficient within the 34 EU countries. It enables customers to make cashless euro payments to anyone within the EU.
UK IBAN example: GB19 LOYD 3096 1700 7099 43
What are the ways to pay using SEPA?
1. SEPA credit transfer A single way to transfer funds nationally or anywhere within the EU.
2. SEPA direct debit Now charges can be made directly to an account in one EU country for services provided by a company based in another country. 3. SEPA for cards Customers can conveniently use the same cards they use for national purchases, anywhere in Europe. Merchants will accept all cards, making payment processes easier and more attractive. SEPA standards required for full introduction
1. IBAN IBAN is the International Bank Account Number that identifies your account anywhere in the world. With a maximum of 34 digits it includes the following in order: 2 digits country code 2 digits check digit 30 digits (max) account identification
2. BIC BIC (Bank Identifier Code) numbers will be phased out for cross-border payments by February 2016.
3. PAYMENT CARDS All payment cards will be migrated from magnetic strip to EMV chip. There is currently no date for completion.
Thousands of people flocked to the beautiful North West Murcia town of Caravaca de la Cruz on Friday 2nd May to celebrate the LosCaballos del Vino Fiesta. The Fiesta known in English as wine horses is held annually in commemoration of a 13th Century incident whereby the Christian townsfolk of Caravaca took refuge in the legendary medieval Castle of Santa Cruz when they were under siege by the Muslim army. It wasn´t long before water stored in the castle became undrinkable and several of the refugees became ill. At night some of the townsfolk crept out of the Castle to look for water and in desperation they raced out of the Castle on horseback to find a safe source of water. When they failed to find safe water, they found some wine, loaded the wineskins on their horses and raced back to the Castle. The wine was blessed in the presence of the Caravaca Cross and given to the ill who recovered immediately. The wine was then mixed with the toxic water in the storage tanks and became fresh, and as a result the Christians were able to resist the enemy.
Timeline for the SEPA process The process began in 1999 and is now in the final migration phase. February 2014: Credit transfers and direct debits in the EU should be carried out in accordance with the standards mentioned above. A six month transition period is being introduced. February 2016: For niche products with specific characteristics a longer transition phase is made for in some countries. 31 October 2016: EU member states with non-euro currencies must adhere to standards set for credit transfers and direct debits in euros, by this end date. SEPA indicators. Key facts at a glance. SEPA credit transfers as a % of total EU transactions is 93.9%* SEPA direct debit as a % of total transactions is 80.3%* EMV transactions as a % of total transactions is 79.6%** *February 2014-03-21 **June 2013 We hope this information provided in this article is of interest. This yearly celebration is held to remember those events. The streets are lined with stalls selling everything from local produce and wine to trinkets and souvenirs. Dozens of horses are paraded through the streets ofCaravacacoated in finery and robes. Crowds of revellers donned in white with the traditional red and gold neckerchief and sashes follow the horses towards the Castle where the horses race to the top. Numerous local bands and processions also join in the festivities making the event vibrant and exciting and something that has to be seen. Caravaca de la Cruz has a population of over 26,000 and has been declared by the Vatican as the World’s 5th holiest City giving it the privilege to celebrate the jubilee year every seven years, and was last held in Caravaca in 2010. The town is a considerable industrial centre with large ironworks, tanneries and manufacturers of paper, chocolate and oil. As well as Los Caballos Del Vino on 2nd May, the festival is held from 1st-5th May each year and has been declared of International Tourist Interest.

Letter to the editor
Traffic on Cartagena Canal Dear Editor,
I live at Las Ramblas and often use the canal for cycling. The canal is used extensively by walkers, joggers, cyclists and others. It is a pleasant, green and healthy environment. However, in recent times the various barriers that were in place have been removed and more and more motorists are using the canal path as a road. It is spoiling the peace and tranquility of the canal environment as they drive with disregard to the signs that restrict entry to service vehicles only. The sections of the canal from past Villamartin and back to Los Dolses and Las Ramblas need no vehicular access at all. There are roads that can be used instead. The canal between San Miguel does get used by farmers accessing their land, but there is no excuse for taxis and private cars to use the route. It can be very annoying when cycling along, to have cars, vans and even lorries suddenly driving past. Can not something be done to curb this completely unnecessary traffic nuisance? Maybe if the Guardia Civil parked up on the canal paths they could collect some substantial income in fines from the non service motorist law breakers. But rather than that, why cannot the barriers be re-introduced so that the canal path can be restricted to non motorised vehicles apart from where services are needed? There are plenty enough roads for all the cars, so can’t we keep the canal exclusive for those that appreciate some pleasant and healthy exercise space. Les Wilton

borrowing rate dips
Spain’s 10-year borrowing rate dips to 2005 level Paris (AFP) - Spain’s interest rate for borrowing 10-year funds fell below 3.0 percent on Friday for the first time since 2005, in a further sign that the eurozone debt crisis is fading. On the secondary market, where debt already issued is traded, the interest rate or yield indicated by the rising value of the bonds fell to 2.996 percent briefly during morning trading, but then rose to 3.0 percent. The yield on existing debt is a baseline indicator of what a country must offer to raise funds the next time it issues equivalent bonds. Ten-year bonds are considered to be the main barometer of a country’s standing on the eurozone bond market. As confidence in the creditworthiness and general state of an economy rises, in this case regarding eurozone member Spain, investors become more inclined to buy the bonds for the fixed income stream they carry. As the price of the bond rises, the fixed interest falls automatically relative to the new higher value of the bond. Spain, the eurozone’s fourth-biggest economy, emerged from its downturn last year after a decadelong property bubble burst in 2008, tipping the economy into a double-dip recession and wiping out millions of jobs. insects and bugs that bite or sting
Buzzing bees, marching ants and swarms of midges are becoming as much a part of summer as swimming pools, the beach and ice cream. Wasp and wasp sting The humble wasp (and closely related hornet) can give a nasty sting if it feels threatened, leading to itching and swelling. And wasp stings aren’t always harmless. Stings from wasps cause the most allergic reactions. You won’t have an allergic reaction after your first sting by a wasp, but you can develop a serious allergic reaction (also known as an anaphylactic reaction) after one or more stings have “sensitised” your system. Prevent wasp stings: Don’t try to swat wasps away. You’ll just make them cross and more likely to sting you. Instead, calmly and slowly move out of their way. Like other stinging insects, wasps love bright colours so wear white or neutral clothes to deter them. Look out for wasps’ nests in your home or garden and have them removed immediately when you find them. Bee and bee sting A bee sting feels similar to that of a wasp. The difference is that the bee leaves its sting inside you and it’s important to remove it to stop infection setting in. Bee stings are painful, but unless you have an allergy to bees, they’re unlikely to cause serious damage. If you’re allergic to wasp stings, don’t assume you’ll also be allergic to bee venom. people who are allergic to wasp venom are rarely allergic to bee venom. Prevent bee stings: Stay still and calm while a bee buzzes around you. Bees love sweet drinks and the last thing you want to do is swallow one, so be sure to look before you sip your drink at picnics and barbecues. Mosquito and its bite Mosquitoes are a nuisance. Their bites cause intense itching and swelling. But while they transmit deadly diseases in other parts of the world, they don’t cause major harm in Spain. Prevent mosquito bites: Smells and bright colours attract insects. Avoid using scented hand or body creams and strong perfumes and sparkly, colourful jewellery if you’re going to spend time outside. Insect repellents are also effective. Don’t forget to cover up and use repellent at night Midge and midge bites Midge bites don’t transmit illness but they’re painful, itch intensely and can swell up alarmingly. Prevent midge bites: Midges tend to attack in swarms, especially in hot weather, so use an insect repellent and cover up at dawn and dusk. Bedbugs and their bites They don’t carry disease, but their bites cause itchy red bumps. Some people have a serious skin reaction with blisters that can become infected. What to do: If you think your home is infested with bedbugs (tiny black spots on your mattress and bed are a giveaway), get them treated straight away. Don’t be embarrassed – bedbugs are not a sign of a dirty home. Horsefly and its bite A large, hairy fly whose bite can be extremely painful, the horsefly tends to bite on warm, sunny days, especially the head and upper body. Prevent horsefly bites: The horsefly doesn’t spread disease, but as its bite cuts the skin rather than piercing it, horse fly bites are very painful, take longer to heal than other insect bites and can easily become infected, so cover up and use insect repellent. Benefits of Hatha Yoga
Hatha yoga seeks to promote health and well-being through physical exercise. The regular practice of Yoga postures (asana) focuses on building strength and flexibility which is an incredible benefit to your body. The postures are meant to strengthen your body from the inside-out, so you don’t just look good, you feel good too. Each of the yoga poses is built to reinforce the muscles around the spine, the very center of your body, which is the core from which everything else operates. When the core is working properly, posture is improved, thus alleviating back, shoulder and neck pain making the body strong, supple and healthy. Many common physical ailments can also be improved through the regular practice of yoga, and it is never too late or too early in life to take it up. Yoga has a profound effect on the circulation and on the functioning of the inner organs, glands and nerves, the digestive system gets back on track when the stretching in yoga is coupled with a healthy diet. Keeping all systems in radiant health and leading to greater energy, better concentration, and a happier, more fulfilling life. Yoga is for everyone, whatever your fitness level or age and is not attached to any religion. And another one of the benefits of yoga is that it can complement all other forms of exercise. For more information on the benefits of Yoga contact Hatha Yoga Teacher Lianne on 686400331 or solyogacentre@hotmail.com

SOLTIMES MAY 2014
Hello and welcome to CanDu Computer Bytes. For the past few weeks I’ve had a number of people coming to me and saying they love to read these articles. I am incredibly flattered that things I say can be helpful to someone else. This glow fades fast when they next say “But it is sometime way over my head” - cue the sound of a balloon deflating! Although some articles are, by the very nature of the subject covered, a pig to understand and even more so to try to break down for everyone, I try to provide the building blocks of knowledge. This knowledge will help you identify the “computer expert” from the person who actually knows about their subject, by just hearing them speak! To remedy the “over the head” feeling, the subject for the next few weeks will, hopefully, be much easier to understand as it will be about choices. I can hear some of you moaning already “what is wrong with …..”. You can choose to read what follows or not. That is a choice! The choices that I’m offering today is regarding office suites. We aren’t talking about the furniture that keep your computer and bum off the floor, although these things are incredibly important, Today we are talking about the Word processor, Spreadsheet, display package and database. Have your eyes glazed over yet? No, excellent! What is the first name that comes to mind when you mention “Word processor”? After staring at my crystal ball I predict the word “Microsoft Office” or “Word” (2 attempts maybe cheating but it’s my bat and ball after all) :-) Incredible, you might say, but alas not! The vast majority of businesses (that is where we usually first come into contact with such things), of about 94%, will use Microsoft products over others. After all they have, through clever marketing, become the defacto standard for document preparation and exchange (and more power to them
for their success)! aWhat if you are a poor student (I was one of the ‘Mass Unwashed’ during my studies at Huddersfield Uni) with a very limited budget for food, mortgage, books, computer equipment, food, heating and food, products like MS Office are way out of my price range, so I looked for a cheaper (read free!) option. The first product I found was called “Open Office” which came with the 4 main tools: Word Processor, Spreadsheet, Database and Presentation. My college work became easier. Even back then they had spelling and grammar checkers in real English (which being dyslexic was a serious help), so my 25,000 word (yep you read that right) thesis became less of a trial. The cost for saving my sanity? Nothing, Nada, Nix, Zero and Zip! Today, you can still get ‘Open Office’ and it’s even better after 20 years development, but there is also ‘Libre Office’ – a very similar product, both using the accepted and free ‘Open Document Format’. If you prefer something a little closer to home then there is a MS Office 2007 clone by ‘KingSoft’ that reads and save documents in native MS Office formats. It too is free and does just as good a job at balancing your books, writing your memoirs, organising and storing your prized information and displaying your holiday photo’s (to bore the neighbours rigid with) in one neat package, as the previous 2. There are many others but part of the fun is finding one that you like and making it your own. If your conscience pricks you, there is always the option of making a donation for the upkeep and development of these packages. I have, and will continue to support these dedicated programmers, with my donations because the product of their hard work is absolutely worth it! I’m now off to Jack’s Bar in Albox for my Friday afternoon computer clinic! If you would like a clinic nearer to you – make the suggestion using the email address under this article and we will see what can be done.

Eeny Meeny Miny Moe For over 200 years, children the world over have sung a variation of the ditty that’s had some media commentators all indignant the last week; Jeremy Clarkson love or hate him heads the cast of Top Gear – a programme that brings in £15 million in profits yearly to the BBC and is exported to 170 countries. I counted, that’s almost all of them! There are 196 or 195 if Taiwan is excluded as it’s not a country at all according to China. Clarkson allegedly mumbled the ‘N’ word nigger as he was choosing which of two cars was best. Not only was the sound muffled but he covered his mouth and the clip was discarded. The scene was shot again using the word teacher. Someone obviously has it in for poor Jeremy as last week the offending clip was given (sold even?) to the Mirror news rag with the rest recent history. Perhaps the disgruntled employee was miffed at Clarkson’s recent multi million pound windfall. In 2009
braben’s blog... Sauntering Ants!
I don’t know whether you knew about this, but apparently there is a World UFO Day. Actually isn’t that a misnomer? Shouldn’t it be called an Out of This World UFO Day? Okay, I’m being picky I suppose. There are an almost endless stream of days celebrating all manner of off the wall goings on. I can’t imagine, for example, that you are over familiar with Wiggle Your Toes Day. No, nor is anyone else I have asked, but it exists, honestly. Another special day, that I have taken a particular shine to, is World Sauntering Day; this touches the spot I think. The idea of spending a whole day ambling around, getting nowhere very quickly, is very appealing. But the reason I wanted to touch on these rather off the wall celebratory days is that things like this make me realise that there’s an awful lot going on out there that we know very little indeed about. Some of it could actually be quite enjoyable if only we were in the right place at the right time. Well, if you are a fan of such whimsical days I would recommend a trip to Finland. I don’t know what it is about the Fins, but they seem to have come up with some astoundingly original events that would keep anyone quiet during the long dark Scandinavian winters. There are some great diversions, buy my favourite has to be Anthill Sitting competitions. I think that my life may, so far, have been an empty one, because I have never before heard of anthill sitting, let alone tried the sport. Maybe some of you have an advantage over me here, but, for those of you who may be unfamiliar with this event, contestants have to sit on an anthill and endure the bites of some pretty miffed ants. Easy? Well, not really. Did I tell you those poor contestants have to bare their buttocks to do this? On reflection, thank goodness for empty lives, at least our buttocks are ant free. You’d think that was enough but, no, the Fins have an almost endless stream of events. I won’t go into them all now but, for beer drinkers there’s a wife carrying competition, where the winner gets his wife’s weight in beer! I wonder if it’s the one that refreshes the parts others can’t reach-it could do those sore buttocks some good! Graham is married to Helen and has a daughter, Alice. He lives part of the year near Albox, but works in Qatar, teaching. If you wish to contact Graham regarding this article email: helenandg@yahoo.co.uk

the BBC invested just £100 in 50% of a venture called Bedder 6 which was owned by Clarkson and Andy Wilman (his long-time friend and the producer of Top Gear). The company was then used to commercially exploit Top Gear around the world with the BBC giving it lucrative merchandising and foreign sales rights. Clarkson owned 30% of the company and in the first year profits were ‘only’ a couple of million quid so the BBC saved money with the arrangement as otherwise Clarkson could have demanded a huge pay rise. Then Top Gear’s profits really took off; Jeremy was paid a handsome dividend of £2.7 million a year ago out of Top Gears recent £15 mil profits. The BBC needed to keep Clarkson and Wilman on board but obviously didn’t envisage Top Gear growing into such a cash cow. So this year both Clarkson and Wilman sold the sales rights back to the Beeb for multi-million pound sums.
These payments were on top of their BBC salaries. The actual sums involved have not been made public by the public owned institution as they are commercially sensitive or in other words the numbers would make people very angry. Media speculation puts the figures at £15mil for Jeremy and £10mil for Andy. Not bad for 5 years work on top of Clarkson’s £850,000 annual salary. The two co – presenters Hammond and May allegedly thought all this financial skulduggery undervalued their own contributions to Top Gear so now they’re back on a level playing field with all three of them contracted to simple yet still mind blowing large salaries for two further series after this current one ends. Getting back to the rhyme; a
variation first appears in print in 1815 when New York children chanted ‘Hana man mona mike.’ In Germany at the same time school kids chanted ‘Ene tene mone mei. In Scotland in the 1820s ‘Hickery pickery pease scon’ was sung by wee Scottish bairns. The poor thing that gets caught each time varies and it seems the version using the word nigger comes from America in the 1880s as the word wasn’t then used in Britain. Rudyard Kipling wrote a version in 1935 called ‘A counting-out song’, he used a tiger as the poor sop that gets caught by his toe. In the 1960s another version did the rounds in the UK which I still remember. It’s a little vulgar as after the eeny meeny miny moe, the baby was put on the po, then when he’s done wipe his bum and then tell his mum what he’s done!

Jim Collins Tribute Night
Jim Collins was a legendary member of the Torrevieja Barbershop Harmonisers with whom he sang for almost 25 years. He was a wonderful friend with his heart and soul in Harmony singing. On Tuesday 22nd April, TBH had an open social night, in Los Rosales, in Jim’s honour and Jim’s friends and fellow singers from all those years of singing with the Harmonisers, were invited to join us again. And what a wonderful night we had, singing with so many old friends from so many shared good times. It was a truly joyful occasion honouring a man who brought so much happiness to all those who knew him. Barber-shoppers, at the close of the evening together , always sing two songs which encapsulate our philosophy and everything Jim loved. “ Lets get together again and Keep
the whole world singing “. Here are members of 3 choruses TBH, the Velvetones and the Spangles- together with 5 Music Directors ( past and present and representing sister choruses ) and as many friends as we could cram onto the risers, saying “ Goodbye” the Barbershop Way. Chas Smith, one of TBH´s most influential previous MD´s conducts the finale featuring members of TBH, the Velvetones, the Spangles and friends old and new sing “ Keep the Whole World Singing” Monies raised on the evening was 330 euros for the “Jim Collins Fund” TBH always welcomes new members. Are Foreign Second Homeowners The Key To Spain’s Recovery?
High unemployment and a sluggish economy are stifling Spain’s appeal to Brits looking somewhere sunny to live and work, but its bargain property prices are attracting holiday homeowners and investors, that is according to a string of statistics published in April. Richard Way, Editor at The Overseas Guides Company, publishers of the Spain Buying Guide said: “The Bank of Spain reported that investment by foreigners in Spain’s housing market in 2013 was the highest for nine years, at €6.45 billion (US$8.95 billion), up 16 per cent on the previous year. At the same time, a leading overseas mortgage broker

confirmed in April a sizeable shift in interest for Spain in the last six months, with the country accounting for more than half of enquiries being received – the first time that a single country has accounted for such a large percentage of the broker’s enquiries. “Similarly, at The Overseas Guides Company, we have witnessed more interest for property in Spain than in France during the first quarter of 2014 historically it has been the reverse. And yesterday (April 28th), Spain’s Association of Land Registrars released a statement saying that foreigners’ share of all Spanish property transactions rose to 11.15 per cent in 2013, compared to just 4.45 per cent

in 2009. The Balearic Islands, home to Mallorca, attract the largest portion of foreign buyers (30.7 per cent), followed by the Valencian Community (24.8 per cent), home to the Costa Blanca and the Canary Islands (24.6 per cent). “Recent statistics showing a fall in the number of British people registered at town halls in 2013 would suggest more people are returning to the UK than relocating to Spain. However, they don’t reflect people purchasing second homes there or Brits that split their time between the two countries, while remaining a resident of the UK.” Source: www.smartcurrencyexchange.com

he Bank of England has given a stark warning that the recent surge in house prices could end in a crash. Sir Jon Cunliffe, one of the Bank’s deputy governors, said it would be “dangerous to ignore the momentum that has built up in the housing market”. He also warned about a possible “sharp correction, with negative equity and an overhang of debt for many households”. His comments came amid reports that the UK’s most expensive flat ever has been sold for £140m. Sir Jon, who has responsibility for financial stability, predicted that house prices would continue to rise for some time. Earlier this week the Nationwide Building Society said prices had grown by 10.9% over the past year, the highest inflation rate for seven years. Options Sir Jon suggested that the Bank’s Financial Policy Committee (FPC) may have to recommend action within the next couple of months. “Whether and how to act further if, following the pause of the last couple of months, momentum continues to build, will be the most challenging judgement the FPC will have to take in the coming months,” he told an audience in London. He said the recent new rules on mortgage lending - known as the Mortgage Market Review- may help to

constrain house prices, but “they have not yet been tested”. Options the Bank could now consider include limiting borrowing ratios, or forcing banks to hold more capital as security against loans. Support for mortgages through the government’s Funding for Lending Scheme (FLS) was already withdrawn in January. Penthouse The Bank’s warning came amid reports that the UK’s most expensive flat has just been sold in London. According to the Times, a flat at the Number One Hyde Park development has been bought by a Russian or Ukrainian buyer for £140m, a new record. The apartment is a 16,000 square foot penthouse over two floors, with views over Knightsbridge and Hyde Park. The purchaser has bought it as a shell, and will have to spend millions more installing appliances and furnishings. The developers of the block, CPC Group, confirmed that the flat had been sold, but refused to say who had bought it, or how much they had paid. “However, global professional valuation companies have valued the finished penthouse at circa £160m to £170m,” a spokeswoman said. book review “Ruined with brawling and caterwauling” Summer in February Film Review.
Enchant no more as they did before, And so it ends with friends.” (William Ernest Henley.) This is an Edwardian period drama directed by Christopher Menaul based on the period leading up to the first world war. It has been adapted for the screen by Jonathan Smith from his 1995 eponymous novel. Based on a true story set in Cornwall so you might recognise Penzance, Lamorna, Prussia Cove, Holywell and Porthcurno. The scenery is rugged and there are plenty of beach scenes and views of the rolling waves on a moonlit evening adding atmosphere as well as natural beauty. The storyline focuses on a group of Bohemian artists known as the Lamorna Group because of the location of their colony. AJ dominates the group as the enfant terrible without quite achieving its notoriety. He is better known as Alfred Munnings played by Dominic Cooper ( Mamma Mia and My Week with Marilyn.) The others see him as a genius, a great painter and are filled with admiration. He relishes in dominating the group and during rowdy drink sessions he recites atmospheric verse to captivate his audience who are truly smitten. AJ is described as a bibulous boor although in reality he seems more of an arrogant lout than quintessentially Bohemian. Undeniably he is self-centred and prone to violent outbursts especially when he can’t get his own way. He becomes brutish with Florence when she is unwilling to consummate their relationship, prepared to rape her, leaving her inconsolable and destroying this illusion of love. His friendship with Captain Gilbert Evans (Dan Stevens from Downtown Abbey) seems rather contrived. They are more like polar opposites. For a soldier Gilbert seems very gentle and courteous. Perhaps he’s a new breed? He seems well-suited
for a match with Florence Carter Wood, an aristocrat, determined to become an artist and independent from her father. Naturally she is depicted as a beautiful and talented young woman and desirable to the two eligible bachelors who are unwittingly vying for her affections. AJ seems paranoid that he is working class; he believes that Florence will civilise him and yet his wildness motivates his passion for the canvas. He seems just as insecure as Florence. I paint. That’s what I do. And nothing else matters. I see it and I paint it. He hates Modernism and loathes the works of Pablo Picasso whom he crudely calls Piss-casso. But husband material to an innocent virgin with his experience of women? I don’t think so. Florence agrees to sit for the great artist so that she can be tutored by him. He advises her to be bold, to dive in at the deep end and be daring. I will bring you alive and will capture you forever. Years from now they’ll look at you and they’ll know exactly what I was thinking.” But what was he thinking about when he painted her mounted on a horse? It certainly wasn’t love. Perhaps infatuation? He produces a fine work of art called Morning Ride which is exhibited in the Royal Academy alongside his other women. Florence disapproves and feels that she is just another of AJ’s conquests

pause for thought
alongside Dolly and the gypsy woman. Florence’s character (Emily Browning) is rather sketchy but what motivates her to accept AJ’s proposal is rather baffling. She may be in love with the idea of his brilliance, love-struck like a child. She is inexperienced and wanting to discover herself and talents through art so she isn’t mature enough to make a commitment and acts impulsively. Meanwhile Gilbert dilly dallies too long and the opportunity to have a romantic encounter with the woman he loves is lost. She agrees to marry AJ, something she lives to regret. She knows that they are going to be trapped in a loveless marriage which leaves her suicidal. Gilbert observes from a close distance, still hoping. An unsatisfactory and short-lived marriage followed by a pregnancy could only amount to scandal and humiliation for a vulnerable Florence which it does. She has this selfdestructive thread in her character and her demise is tragic. The critics panned the film but I think it is an interesting film although it doesn’t portray the real conflicts in the love triangle or resolve them. AJ eventually became President of the Royal Academy. The soundtrack is beautiful: Siren’s Lullaby, In Perfect Straight and After the Ball. Composer: Benjamin Wallfisch. Worth a watch.
I gather it was Elton John, who in 1976 first released the song “Sorry seems to be the hardest word” which he’d cowritten with Bernie Taupin. A song that at the time reached number 11 in the UK and 6 in the USA, and has subsequently been recorded by many different artists. But how true that phrase is. How many disagreements, misunderstandings and fights could have been avoided if only a simple apology had been forthcoming? But how difficult we all find it to say, and truly mean that word?
REVIEW it by Carol Naylor. www.carolnaylor.blogspot.com / www.carolesleynaylor.wordpress. com naylorcl@hotmail.es

Hurt and misunderstanding abound in all walks of life – yes, even within the Church! Yet however much we may regret something we’ve said or done, and the possibly unintended impact we’ve had on others, so often our pride prevents us from saying ‘sorry’. For ‘sorry’ implies acknowledgement of wrong, giving power to others to accept or reject our apology and risking humiliation, which necessarily makes it difficult to say with meaning. But ‘sorry’ and humility are essential facets of the Christian faith. Every time I hurt someone else, I necessarily also hurt God, who wills me to acknowledge not only my failings, but also my absolute inability to earn His approval by overcoming my faults in my own strength. And that’s a real tough issue for my pride. For as Easter has so recently reminded us, true Christian faith acknowledges that no amount of good works can ever win favour with God; that it is only by accepting the sacrifice of Jesus who died in my place, that He is able to offer complete forgiveness. Details of a number of English Language Churches are given in Sol Noticeboard; for any wishing to Worship, whilst additionally, further information about the Anglican Church in this area may be seen on the web site www. mojacarchurch.org

two person job to move. Any two person job involves three of us: Andy, who provides the muscle, Pete, who supervises, and me - I flutter about holding things, fetching things, standing on the bottom step of ladders and urging caution. With surprising ease we transported the mallazo to its destination, then paused to confer. The original plan was somewhat sketchy, something along the lines of ‘It’s not that heavy, I expect we can shove it up on top of the gazebo without too much trouble.’ However, that was before it was delivered rolled up; now a whole new set of possibilities sprang to mind – it was one thing to manhandle a metal frame measuring 2 metres long by 1.5 metres wide on to a 10 foot high gazebo, but infinitely easier to hoist a giant hamster wheel to the same altitude. Andy and I grabbed it and sort of rolled it up the gazebo until it reached

the top, then at the crucial moment we let go. It bounced a couple of times, then settled, dead centre. There were two ways it could have landed – right way up or wrong way up, but our combined intelligence had ensured that, as we rolled it, we kept the join, where it was tied up, on the top. Now nothing could go wrong; the job was virtually done. All we had to do was cut the packing tape that held it in its cylindrical shape. Pete said ‘Get the snips.’ I fetched the snips. Andy stood on the stone table. I handed him the snips. Andy snipped. The packing tape gave way. The mallazo, now unconfined, sprang into the air like a dragon freed of its chains, unfurled itself, landed, quivered a few times and came to rest, 2 metres long and 1.5 metres wide, dead centre on top of the gazebo! Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together?
Humiliated On Medical Grounds
We have been spending a lot of time at the hospital recently. My lovely wife had been diagnosed with tendonitis some weeks ago, but after a period of worsening symptoms and much pain, she was sent for a MRI scan and subsequently re-diagnosed with a ruptured tendon. This involved surgery and currently she is enduring three sessions of physiotherapy each week for the foreseeable future. Before we leave for the hospital, I always discard my shorts and slip on Chinos and a pair of loafers. It’s a private hospital and daft as it might sound, to me it feels like the right thing to do. Until this week. I simply could not be arsed on Friday to change from my creased cargo shorts into strides, so I dumped my sandals - in order to avoid a hefty fine if the Guardia Old Bill stopped me - and put on my faithful Nike’s. I bought them in California five years ago at about half the price of similar ones here. They are supremely comfortable and have given me faithful service ever since. At the end of each week’s physio sessions, I have to approach the reception desk at the hospital armed with my protesting debit card to pay for that week’s treatment. It’s painful enough every seven days, but if I received monthly bills, my flexible friend would end up with a ruptured tendon

of its own. So having paid our dues and dazzled the lovely young things behind the desk with my rapier wit and repartee, I left Mrs B. with the torturers at the gymnasium where the sessions are conducted and made my way downstairs. I was conscious of a strange noise coming from my footwear which seemed to indicate that I had stepped in something sticky; schlop, schlop, schlop it went and as I passed several ladies in one of the waiting areas, they began to giggle and whisper amongst themselves. This reaction is not unusual when I wear shorts I am forced to say. Somebody once referred to my legs in shorts as resembling drinking straws in oil drums, which was extremely hurtful at the time and I still haven’t really forgiven my Mum for saying it. But when I looked down I saw that the upper on one of my trainers had become detached from the sole thus making the curious slapping sound. My routine on treatment days is to sit in the courtyard outside the hospital where I take off my watch (to avoid a giveaway white mark on my wrist) and get a half hour of rays before returning to the reception area. Then I make myself comfortable in one of the armchairs provided and while away the remaining hour reading until my wife appears, having been released on bail until next time. But I still had to descend a floor where I knew there was another waiting area, and then through the ground floor reception which is usually bustling with people, so I simply decided to increase my pace and minimise the embarrassment of my treacherous footwear. But all that happened was that the volume increased and it was now sounding more like, Schlopity! Schlopity!
Schlop! and had the effect of attracting yet more attention and sniggering. So I took a deep breath and schlopped on. I was relieved to find a bench outside that was unoccupied, but conscious that this would be only a short respite and I would eventually have to return to the reception area where my wife expected to meet me, I weighed up the pros and cons of removing my trainers completely, but dismissed this idea on the grounds that I would look even more like a down and out. Then I noticed one of the gardeners removing something from his mouth and dropping it into a litter bin and a brilliant idea hit me. It was chewing gum and we all know how that stuff sticks to anything for life. Mmmm. As I was rummaging through the bin, I suddenly became aware of a lady sidling up and eyeing me – not so much with curiosity, but more like pity. Before I could say anything, she had extracted a coin from her purse and pressed a euro into my hand, then patted me reassuringly on the arm and moved off. ‘No wait’, I wanted to protest. But she had gone. My embarrassment with the shoe was nothing to the humiliation I now felt, so with a deep sigh and lowered head, I made my way back to the main building, dragging the offending foot behind me. And do you know what, not one person gave me a second glance. This was a hospital after all, and what could be more natural than a bloke with a gammy leg.

Mallazo Unfurled The mallazo, the metal frame thing designed to support the rampaging grape vines, and so easily purchased, was delivered, rolled up into a cylinder by two extremely cheerful men with a small lorry. With verve and flair the lorry was reversed into our drive, the side was lowered by extremely cheerful man #1, while extremely cheerful man #2 gave the cylinder a push. Obedient to the laws of gravity the mallazo rolled off the lorry, bounced twice, missed the patio light by a hair’s breadth and came to rest, rocking gently, just outside the front door. There it sat, like a giant hamster wheel, mid-patio. Although it was not heavy, it was big, and definitely a

alqueria
The Agreement
The old olive grove to the north of Alqueria is in near total darkness with the moon’s reflected light the only illumination. Manuela and Gabriela are still deadlocked. All the villagers had long since given up hope of seeing a good cat-fight. The majority had retired to the Bar La Casa Devante where they were at least guaranteed some form of brawl as the evening’s Remitroot liquor took hold. As the impasse continued neither of the two protagonists would give ground. It was getting late, very late, something had to happen. Simultaneously both said sternly “We need to talk”. The girls were evenly matched in looks, stamina and intelligence both masterpieces of nature. They had looked each other in the eyes and found no fault. It was now time to talk, to establish boundaries. The population of Alqueria followed these events with curiosity but Sacerdote del Semblante Lánguido, the Village Priest had a particular interest in these two ladies. When the Priest arrived in Alqueria he was young, keen, naïve and full of religious fervour. Then one day Manuela came to confession. After Manuela’s revelations the Priest was in shock, he lay in his bed staring at the ceiling, he dribbled, he lost his appetite, finally he became an existentialist. Initially he was scandalised by Manuela’s confessions now he looks forward to them with a carnal longing. He keeps notes and intends one day to publish what would perhaps be the best erotic novel since Fifty Shades of Grey. Now there would be two of the same ilk at confession. The priest was beside himself with anticipation. He rushed out and bought more pencils and paper. Before every visit by Manuela the Priest had found it necessary to
sweep the confessional for electronic bugs. Recordings of the confession would fetch a good price in the back streets of Almería. Manuela and Gabriela were deep in conversation, eyes flashed and pearly white teeth gleamed as they became engrossed in their heated debate. While it may be true to say that society has historically pitted woman against women, these two had decided to put it on a formal footing. The agreement that was thrashed out over numerous glasses of Remitroot Cocktail, the favourite tipple of both girls is as follows. They would stick to the men of their own barrios, non-partisan men were fair game. Music to Blythe Gruntmore’s ears. Never to dress the same and never to make eye contact with each other. Both to assume the other doesn’t exist and never never ever comment on the hair of the other. Men, clothes and hair all pretty standard really for the feminine half of any society. It was to be a balance of female guile, the ultimate weapon system and half as old as time itself.
advance moves
Leading Removal Company reports on strengthening housing market One of Spain’s top removal companies has reported that they experienced a resurgence in the Spanish housing market during 2013 and it looks like 2014 will be an even busier year. Mat Ford-Dunn, the Managing Director of ‘Advance Moves International Removals’ pointed to the fact that many property values in Spain have now fallen to a much more realistic level and this has definitely resulted in increased house sales. This has been noticed in all regions of Spain as Advance Moves operate their relocation services throughout the mainland. Advance Moves has its main warehouse in Murcia, Spain, with an additional warehouse in Kent in the UK and has had to purchase 5 new vans and trucks to cope with the increased demand over the past year. The UK housing market is also in a state of recovery and increased house sales have resulted in more people selling up and looking to buy in Spain. There are many factors that
tempt expats to Spain, not least the recent periods of turbulent weather, which many parts of the UK have suffered. On the flip side, for economic reasons many British Expats are now able to sell properties in Spain and Advance Moves are often the first choice when it comes to repatriating them back to the UK. Mat was also keen to point out that the increase in demand for their removal services was also down to the level of service and expertise that Advance moves offer to their clients and the fact that many clients had already seen the brightly liveried vehicles on the roads undertaking their removal services. Advance moves is also a member of the British Association of Removers and one of only a few companies that export wrap furniture to provide extra protection for international removals. ‘Our clients know that they are getting a more competitively priced, premium removal service, when compared to the rest of the market. The increased volume of removals enables Advance Moves to offer their clients a more regular and flexible timetable for their individual removal requirements’ Mat sees the trend continuing throughout 2014 with the housing market in the UK and Spain continuing to make steady process. Advance Moves are gearing up for another busy year.

The last Tuesday of the month means that it’s the Monthly Medal. The day started well with wall-to-wall sunshine and no wind, so some good scores were expected and we were not disappointed. Having said that, one player who shall remain nameless managed a 12 on one hole. Ian (the Chainsaw) Henderson who controls the
handicaps managed to shoot himself in the foot today, he played as near as possible perfect golf with a gross 54 (nett 47) so he has to cut himself, I can almost see him crying over his laptop..... seriously though, well done Ian, a fantastic score, and he had the cheek to follow that with 39 points at Vista Bella the following day.

SAMM Spring Series Races 7 and 8
This was the first time our Society has played Campoamor and it must have been on the top of everyone’s ‘to play list’, as there were 44 players ready to go and another ten on the waiting list at one time. We were not disappointed, everyone enjoyed the course, which was in excellent condition. It proved a testing course to play with the variation of holes, the different elevations and dog legs to content with. We played our usual Stableford competition with three divisions and also ‘The Albie Lush Trophy’. The Albie Lush is named after the first President of Montebello, who was very interested in golf so he started a golf society. On his passing away the people on Montebello decided to name a competition after him. Lo Crispin was asked to take it on when the trophy was not played for anymore, so a buffet was provided at The Lo Crispin Tavern to honour the occasion and as usual they did a grand job. The trophy was enthusiastically played for with
the top score on the day taking the honours. In the end it came down to two people with top scores of 31 each, the winner on a count back of the back nine was Stan Earl, commiserations to Brian Smith a worthy looser. The results were: THE ALBIE LUSH TROPHY: Stan Earl c/b Gold Division: 1st Brian Smith 31pts, 2nd Harry Wilcock 27pts and 3rd Dicky Claeys 26pts.

Daya Nueva 0 v. Callosa 0 Cadets Alicante 2A
No boring scoreless game here !!
For the April 27th race day, the Race Officer set a ‘Sausage and Triangle’ course, see diagram, for the first time, but this proved too much for some crews to get their heads around and a number failed to sail it correctly. The race was therefore abandoned after 3 laps, much to the annoyance of the helm (Robert Hudson) and crew (Ernie Foster and Linda Coates) of the Sailfish ‘Mistral’ who believed they were in the lead at the time. The race restarted with 8 boats, but with the wind
increasing, the two Laser 2000’s, Shoestrings Dos and Tres, collided and had to retire, whist the Laser 13, Shoestring Quartro, again took a wrong course and was deemed ‘dnf’. The race was finally won by Don Clarke (Hartley 12.2), with Mistral’ a close second and the Faversham 14 (David Belcher) third. The wind had increased further and was gusting at 20 knots plus for the second race, but 5 boats eventually got away. ‘Shoestring Uno’ with John Down at the helm,
got a great start, led the fleet throughout and could not be caught. ‘Mistral’ decided to set reefed sails and was lying third at the jibe mark on the last lap, when the crew of the ‘Shoestring Quartro’, who were sailing under full sail and over-powered, lost control and the boats collided, forcing both to retire. Uno held on to record a well deserved win, with the Faversham 14 second and the Martin of Tony Jones third
Daya started very brightly looking to put last week’s dismal performance well and truly behind them. Twice in the opening 5 minutes the home side went close to scoring. Then in the 6th minute somehow Daya’s Manuel shot wide of an open goal ! Callosa did look dangerous on their occasional counter attacks but Daya seemed well in control. For all this attacking the home side though had not really tested the keeper. With 20 minutes gone and having nothing to show for all their possession and attacking play it was worrying for Daya. On 22 minutes the home side should have gone ahead when Luis took on and beat a number of defenders, instead of shooting though he elected to pass, the ball was intercepted and the chance was gone. Just minutes later Luis had a snap shot but the
ball cannoned back off an upright and out of play. Daya were pulling all the strings now and battering their opponents but when was the first goal coming ? With minutes to go to the break the visitors won a free kick just outside the Daya penalty area. From the fiercely struck shot Danni made a fantastic one handed diving save to keep the game 0 v. 0 at half time. The visitors started the second period like a whirlwind and caused panic in the Daya defence. Were the home side to be punished by not having found the net with their many first half chances ? Danni was being called into action far too many times now as Daya were under constant pressure. On 48 minutes a poor clearance by the visitors’ keeper fell kindly to Manuel but he pulled his shot wide of an open goal ! Were Daya ever going to score, and more to the point would the visitors find the back of the net with the
pressure they were applying. On 55 minutes Daya again missed a golden opportunity when with open goal begging the ball went sailing over the bar ! With the home side through on goal again on 62 minutes the keeper had to make a smart save. The visitors then went close themselves with a well struck shot that flew millimeters wide. With time running out and Daya in danger of conceding a goal Danni was time after time called into action. The game ended with no goals and had been a great advert for football at this level. The female match official played her part in an exciting game that was conducted in a good sporting manner except for one isolated incident that she handled well. Man of the Match was undoubtedly Danni, especially for his second half performance.
he had the cheek to follow that with 39 points at Vista Bella the following day.
The next competition is on 6th May at El Plantio. Put your name on the list in the club house by Sunday, if you would like to play. Be sure to be there well before 9am on Tuesday.

Torrevieja Masters make their mark!!
This Sunday in the 50m Municipal pool, Torrevieja the Torrevieja Masters Team were out it force with a full team of eight swimmers. Sundays swims were the last local “Time Controls” before the Regional Masters Summer Autonomico Competition, which this year is to be hosted by the “Palacio de Deportes Infanta Cristina” in Torrevieja on 30th May and 1st June. Racing against 16 of the regions clubs and against 100 other swimmers the team collected a very good set of results in their age groups . Adam Stewart (30-34yrs) gained new personal bests in the 400m (6:44;91) and 100m (1;22;47) freestyle, with team mates Rafael Bordes (1:22;28) and Aurelio Cabello (1:18;06) also with new bests in the 100m in their freestyle (35-39yrs). This was followed with sister Lucy Stewart in the 50m breaststoke (20-25yrs) with a fantastic swim and new PB of 1:13;81 and Paul Matthews (65-69yrs) with time of 45:19. Keeping with the shorted
distances Vicki Connolly (45-49yrs) and Gillian Mc Niece (35-39yrs) swam 50m backstroke. Not a backstroke swimmer and doing this stroke for the first time, Vicki earnt herself a time of 46;72 and Gillian a time of 41:44. Keeping with the backstroke, this time 200m, Paul and Gillian earnt times of 3:29;81 and 3:09;26. Beth Altabas (70-75yrs) then swam 100m butterfly (2:14;88) to be followed by the longest distance raced in the 1500m freestyle with Vicki. Both teammates Vicki and Beth had good swims in the 1500m with times of 24:21;58 and Beth 29;08;02. In summary, a good set of results for the club and looking forward the the bigger masters competitions in May and and the Spanish Nationals in June. Despite giving a below par performance for the second week running, Mazarron gained a 2-0 victory away to bottom of the league Santiago de la Ribera.
One encouraging feature for the visitors was the performance of the cadetes goalkeeper Pablo who made a number of excellent saves on his debut for Mazarron. Both teams struggled to get to grips with the effect the strong wind had on the artificial playing surface but Mazarron took the lead after 16 minutes. Following an excellent run down the left by Randry, his cross was missed by Tolo but Alfonso ran in at the far post to steer the ball home. Pablo made two good saves in the 23rd and 25th minutes to keep Mazarron in the game and, when he was beaten after half an hour, a linesman’s flag denied Santiago de la Ribera an equalising goal. Mazarron should have increased their lead four minutes before the interval when Ruben broke through on the right and squared the ball back to Tolo. His shot was blocked by the keeper and Alfonso’s clever overhead kick from the rebound went just wide. A minute later Tolo tried an audacious chip from just inside
the Santiago half which caught the home keeper yards off his line but sailed agonisingly just wide. Santiago started the second half with only ten men, one of their players having presumably been sent off for comments to the referee after the end of the first period. However Pablo was soon forced to make a brave double save to prevent the home team levelling the scores. Mazarron came more and more into the game but their usual prowess in front of goal was lacking and numerous chances were spurned. Ruben was denied by the home goalkeeper on at least three occasions before Tico burst into the penalty area and his pass found Tolo was made no mistake from 10 yards to score his 23rd goal of the season. Santiago de la Ribera were reduced to 9 men a few minutes before time when one of their players received a second yellow card and, shortly afterwards, Tolo missed an opportunity to make it 3-0 when he blasted the ball well over the bar from just three yards out. Team: Pablo, Alcaraz, Enrique, Cecilio, Dani, Alfonso (Chema), Tico, Moha (Alvaro), Randry (Juanillo), Jose Ruben, Tolo. Man of the Match: Pablo
April turned out to be a very successful month for the Legionnaires, with the increasingly high attendances at our weekly Thursday and Saturday afternoon roll-ups reflecting the popularity of our friendly approach to what is a most enjoyable activity, and one which provides healthy exercise, wonderful comradeship and plenty of exposure to fresh air and sunshine at very little relative cost.
Legionnaires standing’ players, The lovely
We regularly play a once a month friendly match against The Emerald Isle, and we scored an overall victory against them on our home ground at Casa Ventura for the very first time in April, taking 4 out of the 7 rinks and winning by 110 points against 107. Winning trips were Ken Archer, Dean, James Wright, 17/14; Harry Epsom, Rita Hand, Nigel Brown, 25/5; Sharon Mitchell, Helen Hammond, Barry Edwards, 20/17 and Sadie Hubbard, Brenda Brown, Carl Allard, 20/5. Our thanks to The Emerald Isle for their continued companionship and friendliness, which we enjoyed even more on this occasion for some not too obscure reason?? We also held our first internal competition, which took the form of a knockout, with the eventual results being determined by the ‘last
The conditions were ideal, both the weather and the course were perfect for Stableford battle with just the one doubles KO match being fought out on the fairways. The “shankers” (Mike Jordan & Norman Padmore) put up a tremendous fight against one of the society’s strongest pairings in “B.O.” (Ben Price & John Osborne). Ben & John eventually closed out the match 2 & 1 as they march on into the next round. NTP’s were won by Ivor Turkington (5 & 11), Steve Fleet (9), Ben Price (15) & Barry Roehrig (17). Ian Faulkner’s tally of 24 points saw him walk off with the guest prize. Bronze division’s top 3 were - Norman McBride (33), Mick Roscoe (35) & top score of the day, complete with his new handicap, was Rob Stevens with 43 points! Silver’s winners were Phil Birtwistle (36), Capt
If you would like to try your hand at bowls, please contact our Hon, Secretary, Harry Epsom, on 966849075, or just come along to see us at between 1:30 and 2:00p. m. on one of our regular Thursday and Saturday afternoon games days at Casa Ventura, San Luis. You will be more than welcome and you do not have to be a British Legion Member to join our bowls group.
Steve Davis (37), & another winner scoring up in the 40’s was John Aitchison with 41. Gold category’s more mundane scores consisted of Ben Price (29), Ivor Turkington (33) & John Humphreys (37). Well done to all those in the prizes! The apres-golf chatter was generally focused on the recent weekend away playing in Valencia, suitably referred to as the “red wine weekend!” Ron Stenhouse came away as overall winner, which doesn’t mean he won a pair of overalls!! What has leaked out amongst the membership is Ron’s unusual pre-game routine which, he openly admits, has been the secret of his Valencian success. Was it hours & hours honing his game on the range? I hear you ask....not exactly. It was a Stenhouse routine which has been tried & tested in many golf clubs worldwide - first comes a copious intake of some of the area’s finest wines, followed by a very close detailed inspection of the grouting on the bathroom floor carried out while fast asleep and of course - starkers! Ron put his not so good performance at La Torre down to the fact that the wine was too expensive & with people persistently coming in & out of the gents - he couldn’t get to sleep! Well done to one of our larger than life’s characters! Keep up to date with all society matters on www.smgs.org or give Baz a quick buzz on 966 730 133 for info on future Wednesday meetings & please remember during these busy months to get your name down early & if you have to cancel, please do so as early as possible - thanks. Caption for pic - Some of the day’s happy winners.
LA TORRE WELCOMES SMGS
The usual good weekly turnout of members with a sprinkling of guests ventured into the Murcia region to play what I personally find to be probably the most enjoyable of the Nicklaus courses in the area. All Jack’s usual characteristic features are in abundance but the striking variety of holes you find at La Torre is certainly not always evident at his other local courses. At some of them you’d often be convinced that there’s only six holes and you play each one 3 times!
winners trophy was donated by one of our members, Rita Hand, and the Perpetual Rita Hand Trophy, as it has been named, will now be competed for in a like competition at around the same time every year. Barry Edwards won the trophy, Helen Hammond took second prize and Carl Allard third. It was a highly successful and well organised day, which was enjoyed in magnificent all-day sunshine. Special thanks go to member Nigel Brown who’s expertise in organising the event made it such a success, and to Rita for donating the super trophy.

TMGS Match Report for Roda 30th April 2014. By heck, on this day in history Adolf Hitler committed suicide and only Alan Rickers bettered his handicap at Roda. Methinks this is the first time in some 4 years where the wind wasn’t blowing a gale at Roda, it was unusually calm and serene, which can be more than said for the pin positions. It was obvious that the Greeenkeeper didn’t get his “nookies” the night before. Only two of the four NTP’s were claimed and these were by Joe Dean on Hole 2 and Alan Rickers on Hole 13.
The next Society’s game is on Monday, 5th May 2014 at La Serena. 1st Tee time - 10.00.
The Best Guest of the day was Mickie “It’s not Bath, its Barth” Noble with 30 points; his second time on this venue.
The format is TRAFFIC LIGHTS (playing off - Yellow, Blue, Red tees alternatively).
There is no doubt about it, the Silver Division, enjoyed the course with a score of 32 needing to take 4th spot, and would have taken 2nd spot in the Gold Division.
I would be obliged if you are intending to play in this game to let Paul know by email including a buggy if you want one, this will help to ensure you have booked a place and in the booking of the Tee times & buggies with the course. Payday is on Saturday, 3rd May 2014 at La Serena, in the bar area, between 11.00 and 12.00 hours.
Tuesday Night Trios Ten Pin Bowling League
Outgoing Captain lost on a count back to Jenny (chip in for 5 points) Morris for 4th spot, with Jenny claiming 3rd place. Peter Wells hit a nice 34 points for the runner-up slot but an excellent 347 saw Alan Rickers take the top spot of the day. The Gold lads fared slightly worse and it only needed 28 points from Eddie Millar to claim 4th place, Joe “The Pro” Dean‘s 34 enough for 3rd, with Mike Freeman‘s 31 claiming 2nd. Dag Lovas hit 34 points to take the winners rostrum in the Gold Division. Photo: Silver Category Winners

Week Twenty-Seven played 29th April 2014 After the Easter break, our intrepid bowlers returned to resume their quest for league points. The Dreamers took on second placed Team Finland and, thanks to a solid team performance, dented TFs hopes for the league title by claiming a 6 – 2 victory. Don Galley of TD, with a 623 handicap series took the male high series on the night, with teammate Alan Flitmans 600 h/c series, taking second place. The team also bowled the high team series of 1766. Hall y Day managed to stop the points bleeding they had suffered for several weeks, with a hard earned 6 – 2 win. Lesley Day of HyD taking the Ladies high game scr and h/c and scr series, bowling a 225 scr and 241 h/c game and a 556 scr series. It was the turn of Juans’ Warriors to ‘have a laugh’ with Bar Mosquitos and, after 2 hours of fun, it was JW that took the game 6 – 2. Unfortunately, with the teams around them all winning as well, it means JW go into the final week at the bottom of the league. It was an all Scandinavian clash on lanes 13 + 14, when Caballo Negro came up against a resurgent Mixers trio. However, CB were in no mood to ‘roll over’ and, after losing the first game by 77 pins, they rallied to claim the next two games and the overall pinfall, for a 6 – 2 victory. League leaders Split Happens suffered a scare, when they lost the first game to Los Bandidos but, with Kjell Monsen leading from the front, SH moved further away at info@rapidrepairs.es the top of the league, with a comfortable 6 – 2 win. Splash had hoped to consolidate their move into third place in behind zoco sunday market - near quesada the league but Crazy Pinz had other ideas. After 3 close games, when they only lost the second game by one pin, CP inflicted a heavy 6 – 2 defeat on Sp. It means it’s all to play for on the last night, next week. Sue Winfield of Cornish Pride decided it was her turn to ‘carry’ her husband Shane, when they came up against Los Lobos. With Mary Whitelock bowling a steady 553 h/c series and, husband Shane hanging in with a modest 576 h/c series, Sue claimed the Ladies h/ c high series on the night with a 635 and, upped her individual seasons scores Sol Times Calida and Sol Times Blanca are independent of political parties, private investment and government.
