In this module we continue our examination of human relations in organization with a look at the concept of motivation and how to work with varying types of motivators in your workplace.
Motivation, according to Bauer and Erdogan (2012), is the desire to achieve a goal or certain performance level, and a person who is motivated can be described as trying hard to achieve a certain task. Motivation, however, is a complex topic and one that is not the same for all employees.
Perhaps an employee who is motivated by organizational goals might behave differently from one who is not. What implications does this have for workplace leaders? For you? What motivates you on the job? Is it the same for all employees, or is each of us motivated by something slightly different?
Would you be motivated by on-site daycare or weekly massages paid for by the company?
