Week 9 Discussion NURS 6501
Diabetes
Introduction
When there is an alteration of the endocrine system hormone levels become elevated, or are too low, usually indicating changes in the bodies fluid balance, infection, or physiologic stress (Huether, & McCance, 2017).
Diabetes Insipidus is a result of insufficient ADH release and Diabetes Mellitus is a lack of insulin or a deficit or resistance to insulin, the clinical manifestations are similar regardless of the differences of the hormones involved (Huether, & McCance, 2017).
Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of diseases characterized by hyperglycemia that resultsfrom defects in the body’s ability to produce and use insulin (Huether & McCance, 2017).
