Pathophysiology of the Gastrointestinal Tract
The gastrointestinal (GI) system is crucial in converting food into energy needed for basicfunctions of the body. Gastrointestinal disorders such as gastritis, peptic ulcer disease (PUD) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are common and treatable disorders Barba, et al.,2007).
Patients with these disorders can present with pain or injury to the GI system, affecting the absorption of nutrients. Preventing these disorders from developing is the best way to prevent complications from these disorders from developing (Barba, et al., 2007).
