Eating Disorders and Adolescence
An eating disorder is a complex condition that is described as having persistent eating habits that have a negative effect on a person’s physical health.
Over the years the number of girls with eating disorders has increased significantly and they usually start to occur at the adolescence stage into early adulthood. Men and women experience eating disorders, but they tend to be more common in women.
There are three main types of eating disorders including Anorexia nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge eating disorder. There are many misconceptions about these disorders. Some believe they are a lifestyle choice, they are caused by social media, and only rich white girls experience eating disorders.
