NETW250 Week 1 Lab
Voice Communications Today
In the lesson for this week, we discussed the history of the PSTN. It’s quickly going away with the proliferation of VoIP and cellular technologies.
Although at some point, all types of phone calls crossed this same old PSTN, voice traffic today is typically transmitted over IP networks such as the Internet.
As the lesson points out, in 1984, the Bell system was broken up into parts. Today, many of these pieces have been reassembled into larger organizations.
In its present form, AT&T provides service to about one half of the United States. In this Lab, you will examine the voice and collaboration solutions AT&T provides to businesses today.
They demonstrate how voice communications evolved over the decades. To do this, go to the AT&T website at business.att.com.
