Part A: Informational Social Influence
CharacteristicsIn the scenario mentioned in the abstract, a lady named Emma checked into a hotel, andsometime after, there was a sudden pounding on her door.
Upon opening the door, a uniformedman was standing there, explaining not only an ambiguous situation but a dangerous one as welland directed her downstairs.
Upon returning to Emma’s room, she noticed her belongings were all stolen. It appears that Emma has fallen victim to informational situational influence.
The unfortunate outcome is to do to the situation is ambiguous, a crisis, and involves a man inuniform who appeared to be an expert in an otherwise unfamiliar state of affairs.
Unfortunately,“in a truly ambiguous situation, people are more likely to rely on others’ interpretation (Aronson,Elliot, et al. Social Psychology, Pearson, 2016, pp. 235–235).”
