Assignment 6: Illustration Paragraphs
Illustration by way of examples is often an ideal approach in developing a paragraph. When examples are pertinent and inherently interesting (to most of your readers), your paragraph will be livelier, more powerful, and more likely to appeal to your readers’ emotions.
To put matters simply,illustration uses examples to flesh out the specifics and details of a general statement to show the reader exactly what you mean. Here’s the concept of illustration in a nutshell: Write a general statement—an assertion.
Support your general statement with appropriate and pertinent examples to make your general statement clear and concrete. For example: Topic Sentence (your general statement): “Boys and girls grow up in separate cultures.”
