Assignment 5 – Animal Diversity
The cladogram constructed to demonstrate diversity among animals begins with choanoflagellates as the outgroup because the results of various molecular studies suggest that the most recent common ancestor of animals resembled a modern choanoflagellate (Harris-Haller, 2016).
The first ingroup, poriferans, differs from the outgroup by possessing symmetry and a body cavity. These two traits are important in defining animals and separating them into clades (Harris-Haller, 2016). The poriferans are have acoelomate body cavities and asymmetricalsymmetry.
The next group is the cnidarians, who also acoelomates, but differ from poriferans because cnidarians possess radial symmetry and true tissues.
Cnidarians contain two tissue layersand are therefore referred to as diploblastic. The next group to evolve, the nematodes, evolved to contain a https://www.solvedcollegepapers.com/product/biol-112-assignment5
