Final Project Two Toyota: A Struggling Company Tina M. Levering Southern New Hampshire University
In 2009-2010, Toyota recalled over eight million cars and trucks after reports of faulty accelerator pedals, sticky brakes, and floor mat problems.
According to Wendy Kaufman’s article, the company squandered their reputation by dealing with the recall in manner that was unprofessional.
Rather than acknowledge ownership of the issues, the company instead chose point fingers at suppliers and even blamed the drivers of their vehicles. In the same article, Paul Argenti, a teacher at the Tuck School of Business, stated that Toyota failed to aid consumers in understanding what it was doing to fix the issues.
He further noted that the company did not offer an appropriate apology, nor were they humble enough to address the concerns of its consumers.
