Introduction
General Motors Company or GM is a well-known American car manufacturer that designs, builds, markets and distributes vehicles.
GM was founded in 1908 in Flint Michigan andstill resides in Michigan to this day. In February 2014 GM recalled 800,000 small cars due to faulty ignition switches.
Eventually this issue led to the recall of 30 million cars worldwide. This case study reviews the investigation into the ignition switch scandal. In this case study GM is described as a successful company with a dysfunctional culture. The investigation found that GMknew about the ignition problem for 11 years.
However, the culture at GM was a very hands off and don’t take responsibility culture. Employees who discovered potential safety issues were afraid to speak up, the “GM Nod” was an empty gesture of acknowledgement practiced in meetings,
