THE GROWTH OF THE COTTON KINGDOM
The Cotton Kingdom was established in the south as the called it at around the 1800’s. The factors which led to the growth of the Cotton Kingdom were; the innovation of the Whitney gin, avilabity of cheap labor from slaves,the land in the south was cheap hence a contribution factor and availability of ready market in the British market.
The innovation of the Whitney gin by Eli Whitney in the late 1700’s was a major boost for the growth of theCotton Kingdom in the South, that is because the Whitney gin was way faster in the separation of the cotton seedsfrom the cotton bolls and this lead to massive and more effective way of the processing of cotton.
The Whitney ginwas 8 times faster in the separation of the cotton than the traditionally used methods(Buchanan, 2012).
