Self Portrait Analysis
This piece of art represents the self. It was created from highly-textured sketch paper and oil pastels. This piece depicts a purple-colored side view of a face on a background showing part of a map. Within the face are six objects.
There is a brain filled with words including neurotransmitters, nature, and genetics, nurture, experience, family, love, friends and environment, reflection, thought, choice, and free will.
Below that there is a rubber band, the state of Maine, a green apple core, a butterfly resting on the chin and finally at the very bottom, acircle made from dotted lines. Within this paper, both the symbolic and personal meaning of the aforementioned characteristics of this art piece will be discussed.
