9/11/17 Critique of Freeland
In Freeland’s But is it Art? she discusses the many different definitions of art, as well as the impact of art on cultures and people, political ideas and societies. She discusses how art has changed throughout history, as well as how Westernization has changed how some forms of art are viewed.
Above all else, it seems that the point of this book is not necessarily to define art, or critique art, but rather to discuss the fact that there are many different kinds of art, and art is different from person to person.
However, it also seems that Freeland is making a commentary on how art is treated so differently as compared to how it was before westernization reached its peaks.
