Evangelista Torricelli was born in Faenza, Romagna on October 15th, 1608 and is best known for his invention of the first barometer. Having lived in the time of Galileo he was a believer in the Copernican views and highly skilled in the practice of mathematics, philosophy and science.
Through his various pursuits he created progressin a time of great minds and revolutionary ideals.Fatherless from an early age, Torricelli was raised by his uncle, a monk, who in 1624 enrolled Torricelli into a Jesuit College.
There he studied mathematics and philosophy until 1626 when he left for Rome in 1627 to study science from a professor of mathematics at the Collegio Della Sapienza in Piza.
In 1632, shortly after the publication of Galileo’s Dialogues of the New Science, Torricelli wrote to Galileo complimenting him on his works and reflected a high amount of admiration.
