Claim: The Polygraph Test is an Accurate Means of Detecting Lies
The purpose of this paper is to discuss how the scientific method can be used to test if a polygraph is an accurate way to detect lying when compared to other methods.
A polygraph test or lie detector is a test that assesses a person’s physiological response to questions asked by an expert in order to determine if the person is telling the truth or being deceptive. Additionally, a polygraph machine plots physiological activity such as skin conductance, blood pressure, and respiration on a continuously running chart.
