5-2 Journal: Phenomenological Concepts
How much congruence do you think there is between your actual, ideal, and ought selves? How does this affect how you think, feel, and act? I believe there is little congruence between my actual, ideal, and ought selves.
I feel like my actual self is constantly in a battle with my ought self and my ideal self. I think I am always striving to be my ideal self, but I will never be the person I want to be because the idea of who I want to be is ever-changing.
When I feel like my actual self and my ideal self are not in alignment with one another, I find myself feeling disappointed and sometimes depressed.
When my actual self and my ought self are not aligning, I find myself feeling anxious and sometimes guilty, like I am letting people down because I am not being the person they think I should be.
