WALDORF WOMAN ARRESTED FOR ARSON
CHARLES COUNTY, MD (October 25, 2011) – Deputy State Fire Marshals have arrested a sixty-five year old woman for 1st Degree Arson after determining she had intentionally set fire to her home. The late night 11:39 p.m. blaze at 3461D Orchid Place in Waldorf caused approximately $60,000 in damages to the home. The one alarm fire was quickly brought under control by 43 firefighters from Waldorf, La Plata, Bryan’s Road, Brandywine, Hughesville and Accokeek Volunteer Fire Departments within approximately 5 minutes after arrival on the scene. Investigators determined the fire originated in multiple locations throughout the two story, single family dwelling with the use of an accelerant. Wood admitted to setting the home on fire and revealed her motive was due to financial difficulties. Wood was served with an arrest warrant without incident upon release from the Civista Medical Center today and transported to the Charles County Detention Center and awaits review before a District Court Commissioner.
