LOCAL COUPLE CHARGED WITH ARSON AND INSURANCE FRAUD CALVERT COUNTY, MD (February 26, 2013) – An extensive investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal has resulted in a Calvert County Grand Jury indicting Stephen T. Donahue (32) and Melissa E. Donahue (32) for committing felony 1st Degree Arson and Insurance Fraud. The 9:27 a.m. incident originally occurred on October 5, 2011at 235 Leonard Court in St. Leonard, Maryland. During the on-scene investigation, investigators determined a fire was set in the master bedroom of the two story single family dwelling. The ensuing investigation revealed financial issues was the primary motive behind setting the blaze that caused an estimated $85,000 damage to the home. An additional charge of insurance fraud was awarded for a false claim involving a swimming pool at the residence. Stephen Donahue was taken into custody at 4218 Cassell Boulevard in Prince Frederick and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center without incident. Melissa Donahue was served an arrest warrant at the Calvert County Detention Center where she was being held on unrelated charges. Both suspects are waiting for a bond review before a District Court Commissioner. If convicted of the charges, they both face penalties of up to 40 years imprisonment and/or $60,000 in fines. ### Media contact: Bruce D.
