Occupants Escape From Owings House Fire CALVERT COUNTY, MARYLAND (October 29, 2014) – Investigators from the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Calvert Investigative Team of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating a fire that occurred around 4:15 pm on October 28, 2014. The fire occurred in a two story, single family dwelling located at 9100 Sam Owings Place in Owings of Calvert County. The investigation revealed the fire was incendiary in nature, and intentionally set by Brenda Cook (60). Further investigation revealed the dwelling was occupied by multiple people at the time of the fire. All occupants were able to escape the dwelling safely. Firefighters from North Beach, Dunkirk, Huntingtown, Lothian and Harwood responded to the fire and extinguished the fire within 10 minutes. The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages to the dwelling. At this time, the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending for Cook. ### Media contact: Caryn L.
