The Dark One by Imkagome
There once lived a lean and short girl named Melina, she was 14 years old. She always was the type of girl to not stay in one place. She always wanted to go outside on adventures and live life by her own rules. Melina hated her life at home; this is why she was always gone. She hated that her parents would always go off and would leave her alone and not show her any love or attention. They would go without saying goodbye for days. Melina would often fend for herself when it came to food. This is part of the reason she would venture out in the woods. She would go hunting and relax in the peaceful and strangely quiet woods. The woods were rather dark at night; she did not like to stay there too long when it got dark. Melina would hear strange noises in the night that did not sound like any animal or human. She always felt that she was under watch but did not know by whom. She wondered if there was someone there, especially when she would go bathing in the river alone. One hot summer day she thought she would bring one of her fellow classmates to her neck of the woods to play. ‘Who would think that this could be a horrible mistake’, she said to herself. Her friend’s name was Lisa, she was kind of a big girl but rather tall, and friendly, and she was the only person Melina could trust besides herself. After school they both went to the woods and Lisa was amazed by how well kept Melina had it there. She had her own mini campground with a campfire not yet lit. Melina thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and start fishing for
dinner. Lisa could not help but look at the one tree that seemed different from the others. She walked closer and closer to it, and then Melina ran over in front of the tree and screamed, “NO DON’T GO NEAR THAT!” Lisa was so shocked that she was knocked off her feet. “But….but…..I could not help but notice how different this tree looked….I just…” Melina remarked, “You just what? This is my camp in the woods what I say goes! God! Just please just sit down and wait for dinner and keep to yourself!” Lisa felt strange; she could not understand what got into Melina. The tree had a weird ominous feel around it; one could not simply describe the tree without being there. Only thing that could be said of that tree was that it was just evil, but it is mysterious. All the leaves were gone from the tree and some carvings were around the tree. The carvings were of nothing anyone has ever seen in their lives. It was almost like another language. It was starting to get dark and Lisa was starting to get worried because Melina still had not returned with the fish. She was getting cold, so she decided to go get some firewood to help her friend out. She could not find decent firewood anywhere, except near the tree. She knew if she were caught near it, she would get in trouble so she quickly got the fire wood. However, as she grabbed the firewood she heard the strangest loudest shriek coming from the tree. Lisa fell to her knees in terror, “Please…..don’t…….take me….” This is all she could say before the tree took her in by the roots. Melina finally returned with the fish when she noticed Lisa disappeared. “LISA!!!!!! HELLO?????” She screamed, and screamed her name. No one responded. She dropped the fish and smirked. “So it was you again? Did you enjoy your dinner, Dark One?” She got the firewood and kneeled down. She began chanting a weird language and said “Thanks, Dark One, she was rather rude for disturbing you….” The tree was pleased by her response and let her get the firewood for her dinner. Melina then said, “Do not worry I will find more for you in the future, I have many……hehehehehe…..‘friends’…..” Not much longer after that many more kids went missing and no one could find their bodies or any trace of where they would go. The only thing that puzzled teachers was why Melina was always the only child left in their class by the end of the school year…….
