Administrative Service Institutional Service Major Administrative Roles 1995-2007 Medical Director, NICU, University of Maryland Hospital • Medical director of the unit, responsible for policy and procedures, monthly quality improvement, Care protocols and pathway development. • With the Nurse Manager of the Unit, developed the role of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Assistants in the UMMC NICU, and provided ongoing medical supervision of these Practitioners. • Developed specialty practices within the NICU: ELBW, VLBW, Surgical, General and Stepdown that focused family centered, individualized care for NICU Subpopulations. • Instituted new clinical database (Site of Care) to improve reporting and clinical research tracking of NICU patients and continues until age 3 for patients followed in our NICU followup clinic. • Began participation in the Vermont-Oxford Neonatal Database to benchmark our clinical outcomes. • Provided medical leadership to unit participation in National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) focus group and University Hospital Consortium (UHC) to improve standards of care and benchmark outcomes from our NICU. 1997-2007 Co-Director, Maryland Regional Neonatal Transport Program (MRNTP) Joint program between UMMS and the Johns Hopkins Children Center. • This program was developed in 1996 when the State of Maryland withdrew its financial support of the existing Neonatal Transport program, and the two institutions collaborated to continue the 30 years of excellence provided to newborns requiring higher level neonatal care. I worked with representatives from Johns Hopkins Children Center and UMMS to develop the governance structure of program. • Provides transport to critically ill neonates from community hospitals throughout the State of Maryland and surrounding regions to both quaternary NICUs. • Supervise transport manager and transport nurses, review transport records, and provide monthly internal reviews and monthly program critiques for quality management, set policy and procedures. • Member of Oversight Committee of Program. Outreach educational activities for the referring hospitals are a main focus of the program.

Director, Clinical Affairs, Department of Pediatrics • Assisted the Chairman, Department of Pediatrics enhance the clinical mission of the Department by developing a pediatric multi-specialty group practice. • With the Departmental Practice Administrator, redesigned the clinic scheduling system. • Included members of the department of Pediatrics as well as pediatric surgical sub-specialists. • Chaired Practice Management Committee, which developed budgets and set policies for the clinical mission of department. Division Head, Neonatology Lead the Division of Neonatology in the clinical, research and educational missions within the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Division included 10 full time faculty members, an accredited fellowship program and administrative and laboratory staff. • Grew division surplus over 187% from FY02 to FY07. • Increased research funding 243% from FY02 to FY07 of the division. • Raised percent of total faculty salaries funded from external research grants from 3% to 21% from FY02 to FY07. Consortium Head, Hospital Based Programs Department of Pediatrics • The Department of Pediatrics organized its divisions into consortia that are groups of divisions sharing common themes and issues. • The Hospital Based program Consortium included the divisions of Neonatology, Pediatric Critical and Emergency Care, and the Pediatric Hospitalists programs at North Arundel Hospital and Montgomery General Hospital. • The Consortium organization was discontinued in the fall 2007.
