Research Interests

My main project focuses on finding out the role of miR155 in normal haematopoeisis and its involvement in leukemias. This project involves the overexpression of miR155 in primary haematopoeitic cells and studying its function in myelopoiesis and erythropoiesis. A study of its expression in various leukemic cell lines has a translational goal as it has led to identification of various targets that may be exploited for therapeutic purposes. Thus, this project seeks answers as to how deregulation of miRNAs leads to leukemias.

Laboratory Experiences

1.Studied biological activity of various bcr/abl antisense oligonucleotide derivatives with reference to chronic myeloid leukemia, ACTREC, Mumbai University, India (2001-2006) 2. Studied the role of dietary antioxidant curcumin in cancer cell lines, curcumin inhibited microtubule assembly through tubulin binding. ACTREC, Mumbai University, India (2001-2003) Techniques known: Mammalian Tissue Culture, Flow cytometry, Immunofluorescence, Laser Confocal Microscopy, Lentiviral transductions of cell lines and primary cells (haematopoietic), Cytotoxicity assays: MTT, SRB assays, Luciferase assays, Apoptosis assays, Western blotting, Northern Blotting, Quantitative Real-time PCR
