University of Maryland School of Medicine Department of Epidemiolgy and Preventive Medicine Director, Division of Cancer Epidemiology Cancer Center Associate Director for Population Science The University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking a Director for the new Division of Cancer Epidemiology, Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine. The Division Director will also serve as the Associate Director for Population Science of the nationally recognized University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center. The person selected for this position will lead and develop a program dedicated to research and research training in cancer epidemiology. The division will work cooperatively with the other five (5) professional schools (Dentistry, Law, Pharmacy, Nursing and Social Work) at University of Maryland and with School of Medicine departments, institutes, centers and programs to pursue novel and important research in cancer epidemiology in community and clinical settings in the US and globally. Specific areas of emphasis will include health disparities, cancers that involve viral and environmental agents, and those that are attributable to genes and gene-environment interactions in specific populations of individuals. The newly established Division of Cancer Epidemiology will interact with vigorous existing basic and clinical research programs in a broad spectrum of human cancers housed in the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, the Greenebaum Cancer Center, the Institute of Human Virology, and the Center on Health Disparities. Candidates are expected to be senior level investigators with a proven record of external research support in areas that complement and enhance cancer research at the University of Maryland. A MD and/or PhD or equivalent degree(s) is/are required. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills to establish the division as an academic platform for collaborative research and research training in cancer epidemiology. Significant new resources will be available to develop the new Cancer Epidemiology Division. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
