CME Activity Coordinators Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development September 29, 2009 Correct Use of AMA Credit Designation Statement for CME Activities

The American Medical Association requires that all CME providers use the current AMA credit designation statement in announcements and activity materials for all educational events that are designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM . Following is the correct credit designation statement: The University of Maryland School of Medicine designates this continuing medical education activity for a maximum of <number of credits> AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) TM . Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Please note the following regarding its use: •

The credit designation statement must always appear in a separate paragraph immediately following the ACCME accreditation statement.

The text of the credit designation statement should be printed in regular type. Italics should be used to highlight the words AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM .

The trade mark superscript (™) must not appear in italics.

The ‘s’ and parentheses (“(s)”) which follow the word Credit must be deleted if the number of credits is one or less (e.g., 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM ).

T he parentheses before and after the “s” must be deleted if the number of credits offered is more than one (e.g., 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM ).

Thank you for your compliance. Please let us know if you have any questions or need assistance.
