Seminars/Resources for Academic Career Development Minority Faculty Professional Development Seminar (September 24 – 27, 2010) This is a three-day professional development seminar designed for junior faculty who are members of underrepresented racial and ethnic minority groups who aspire to leadership positions in academic medicine. Mid-Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar (December 11 - 14, 2010) This is a three and a half day program designed for Women primarily at the associate professor level. However, women who are in earlier stages of their career will be considered on an individual basis. Listing of Faculty Development Workshops September 2010 September 14th, Feedback (12:00—1:00 p.m.), Conference Room 14-007 Bressler Research Building

The University of Maryland School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Maryland designates these activities for a maximum of 1 or 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their

participation in the activity.

Effective teachers provide feedback to their learners. In this workshop we will review the critical skills for providing effective, targeted feedback in a variety of medical education settings. A model for Feedback will be presented (3 10-minute meetings with the learner), and the differences between formative (mid-course) and summative (end of course grade) will be explored. Participants will be able to identify and use effectively the skills which are necessary to provide learner, feedback in the medical education setting, including observation/data gathering, facilitating learner self- assessment and planning for longer-term follow-up.
