The University of Maryland School of Medicine established in 1807, is the first public and fifth oldest medical school in the United States. The Office of Professional Development has been responsible for administering the Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program since the integration of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) and CME offices in 1998, and assumed responsibility for Faculty Development in the Fall 2005. The Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development is head of the CME Program and supervises the policies, procedures, strategic planning and development efforts for continuing medical education. The University of Maryland School of Medicine is committed to providing the highest quality CME for physicians based on identified needs and has been an accredited provider for over 20 years. An active CME Advisory Committee works throughout the year to provide oversight of the CME program through the peer review of activity applications and enduring materials. The Advisory Committee reports annually to the Dean of the School of Medicine.
