PRISTAV 18600

Fifth semester project - Archip - 2014 The project was a winning entry and is set for construction the spring/summer of 2015 Collaboration with Feliks Isaksen Approached by a group of people managing a small, urban park on the waterfront in central Prague, there was launched a two week workshop to design and give new life to an ex-industrial site turned park. The desire was for there to be an informal park with strong ties to the community of the neighbourhood of Karlin, where the park is located. The site, at present, has two faces: One is of mess and clutter, it’s industrial heritage. The other is of natural charm and beauty. After the closing down of the train station, nature has reclaimed it and grown wild and bushy. The site is also elemental, the wildness of the greenery, the river rushing by, and the rocky mess of old buildings pile up in heaps. The renmants of activity bear witness of fire, with scorched wood in stone circles. The desire of the clients were to design a natural park that could host cultural activities, be a gathering place for the community to relax, play and light fires. There are presently a few fruit trees and wild horseradish growing, so adding more like this, to strengthen community activity, was also desired.

THE GROVE For the grove, where the fruit trees are found, we have chosen to introduce a wide range of plants. We have researched and looked into what types of plants work together, that they grow in this climate, and how their appearance changes with the seasons.

Forming in the ground

Adding Concrete

Hosting out

= Finished fireplace

This way we invite people to use this space all year around. It’s density and wildness will create an intimate atmosphere, and within this atmosphere we have placed concrete cast elements to form the fireplaces. Surrounded by nature, people can sit together around a blazing fire, undisturbed by the surrounding city. The fire emphasises the sites elementality, and surrounded by tallplants and bushes, creates an intimate and undisurbed space with textures, smells and the tastes of fruits and berries.

THE STAGE

THE MOUND

Around the great tree we have cleared the ground, evened it out and made the stage into a flat grass lawn. Around it, the topography is altered by using pieces of debri and stones from around the site as well as adding concrete elements cast in the same method as the tables and benches. More of the tables and benches present today is also in place. This way the energy is focused towards the stage and the tree. When not in use as a cultural space, they are combined with can form impromptu playgrounds for kids, or places to recline for visitors. Creating a central space, open and vibrant, it has many uses both with a performing troup, and without. The small mounds can be seating or places to stand for the shorter members of the public when the band is playing.

Today an underused pile of rocky junk - but what increadible potential it has! We see its potential as an overlook, and tap into it when we expand our previously described concept of the fireplaces and perch it on the top of the hill. A platform to stand on and overlook the site, and the other side of the river. Or in the evenging, with the fire lit, shining bright like a lantern, providing unprecedented views of the area.

BUBNY

Fifth semester project - Archip - 2015 The courtyard between Holesovice and Letna.

The task was to design the masterplan for the future development of Bubny, located north of Prague’s city center. Bubny is today just a brown field that seperates two major neighbourhoods, Holesovice and Letna. We were challenged to look into this to neighbourhoods to be able to design Bubny as a center between them.

Courtyard Letna: The space is seperated by mixed intersectin interior

Courtyard Holesovice: The space is subdivided by varoius volumes.

The courtyards in Letna and Holesovice has mixed intersecting and subdivided interior spaces. Seeing Karel Honzik’s drawings, we can read that transportation routes and all public spaces are fragmented with walls and fences (Diagram 1). Karel is saying: “There is no square meter left in the city to inhabit. It is a city full of people, but not designed for people”. Inspired by Karel Honzik’s idea to unify the present courtyards, I decided to see courtyards as a potential to give interior spaces within the city grid with a more unified idea. In diagram 2 Karel is stating “To unify the courtyards and build playground for children, alternatively break openings to the courtyards. Consider how much space that will be gained for people.” I believe this vision to break openings and unify the courtyards will bring more life to a city where people will feel more included with society.

NORDBERGVEIEN 30B Project developed in my internship with Crux Arkitektur. Architects: Sondre Hermundstad, Sigrid Bjørkum and Tarjei Forseth

My role in the project was to develop architectural sche matic design drawings –Managed graphic design of proposals, presentations and client correspondence –3D modeling documentation in Archicad, Artlantis and Photoshop. Nordbergveien 30b is a residential project located at Nordberg, north of Oslo. The project is based on a classic Nordberg house from 1920 which is in original condition without any changes from the year it was built. The project is to expand the house with a new extension that consists of new living rooms on the first floor and a new bathroom and bedroom on the second floor. We were also asked to design an outdoor area that expands out in the garden. There is great emphasis on developing a new layout for the existing building and extension as a whole. The project aims to provide the new extension with new qualities of our time without disturbing the original house. It is therefore made a clarified distinguish between past and present with the form of a gap between the two buildings. This gap is entirely performed by opaque glass so that the old and the new volume will appearholistic separately.

BLÅSEN

Project developed in my internship with Crux Arkitektur. Architects: Sondre Hermundstad, Sigrid Bjørkum and Tarjei Forseth My role in the project was to develop architectural schematic design drawings -3D modeling documentation in Archicad, Artlantis and Photoshop. The property is located approximately 100 meters from Stabekk, just walking distance to shops, cultural facilities, bus and rail. The site the house is designed in is a landscape where all vegetation and terrain is preserved. The house is gently placed within a steep slope southeast of the property, almost as if it is floating amongst the trees. The dramatic dialogue between the crispy color of the corten steel of the house and the primary blue and greens of the trees, and sky allows the house not only to assert its own presence but to enhance, by contrast, the beauty of its natural environment. The natural surroundings are important to take into consideration during the construction of the house. As few trees as possible will be removed, in order to leave the landscape in it’s most natural state while forcing the house to integrate with it. The house consists of two wings that formes a corner. One consists of two floors and the other has one floor. Two-story wing includes garage, entrance, sheds and bedrooms. While the main floor consists of living, dining, kitchen is all arranged in one continuous room. This enables panoramic views of the surrounding environment and the distant mountains.

AMPHIBIOUS LANDSCAPE Third semester project - TerreformOne - 2013 The brief is to design an art gallery/storage for Kampa Museum.

At the Vltava River’s edge, in Prague’s city center is the Kampa Museum. Given its prominent location on the riverfront, adjacent to the historic Charles Bridge, the Museum suffers from yearly flooding of it’s basement and ground floor. The intent for this project was to offer protection and longevity to both the Museum itself and it’s priceless Czech art collection. This proposal is for integrated landscape and vessel “elements” that would offer controlled flooding parameters, while extending usable gallery space for the Museum, to allow for a positive interface with the rising water levels. Coursework was completed using parametric modeling tools, various physical modeling techniques and sketching, all while attending the CIEE Global Architecture program with the architecture office TerreformOne.

Second semester project - Archip - 2013 Row housing for a family of four.

A part of an row housing development, each student was given different client. I was given Ivana with here family consisting of two kids and one husband. Ivana does buisness from her home as an architect. I’ve been focusing on how to mix work in here daily life by seperating public and private throughout the house. The front facade has small windows on the private part of the building and big window on the public/office. So that the client easily can find the office. The private entrance leeds us into an narrow hallway, the left wall is a wardrobe that looks like an wall. Within the wall there are an hidden entrance to the office. This element of the house is important because it differentiates public and private. From the hallway and into the living/ kitchen room we enter a big room with glass roof and a big sliding glass wall into the garden. The goal for this space is to give you a feeling of being in the garden. First floor is the masterbedroom with an open solution, bedroom and bathroom mixed togheter to an island in the middle of the room. Second floor its two bedrooms for the kids, a space for them to be togheter and they share a bathroom.

MOVEMENT

First semester project - Archip - 2012 Information center for a residental development in Modrany, Prague. The task was to design a pavilion for an residental development south of Prague. This pavilion would give information about the development to the potential buyers and visitors. On the site there are 15 meters high and 1 - 1.5 meter in diameter trees. It runs through the center of the sight in a line of 100 meters. I chose to use the row of trees and add a path way that floats through in between in a fragile and ligh way. This gives the user a feeling og walking between the trees. The pathway takes people through the trees with a view over the development, and on the end of the path a view of all the facilities Modrany has to offer (golf, sports, river etc.). Near the end of the path it expands into an indoor space where people can come and talk to a salesmen. There will be information boards that hang down from the trees through the whole path with information of the development and history of the area. This will not only be a information center for the development, but an attraction for the area.
