senior and tennis enthusiast at Wiregrass Ranch High School, Hannah Still took her senior project (The Evolution of Tennis) and turned it into a community charitable event. On the last Saturday of March, Hannah held a doubles tennis tournament at the Meadow Pointe 1 tennis courts. “Having lost my grandmother, cancer is very dear to my heart, so I thought it would be a good idea to give all the money raised to the American Cancer Society. This project was going to be overwhelming, but in the May 2011

end I knew it would be worth it. To be in charge of such a big task took a lot of effort, hard work and dedication! I had 8 doubles teams join and raised over $450 with many people not playing in the tournament donating money as well. This was a very good learning experience for me! We salute Hannah for her success and hope that she inspires others to take a risk and give back. Hannah plans to continue playing tennis at Huntingdon College in the fall. v Page 5

Questions for your

CDD Supervisors. Q: I have small children, why did you take out the baby pool? A: New CDC rules would have forced us to rework the wading pool, so rather than spend the money updating this pool, the MP1 CDD Board decided to remove the baby pool, and update our facilities by adding a splash pad. With a “water park”… • There is no pooled water making it safer for small children • It is interactive and therefore more fun • It is more entertaining than a wading pool and will attract patrons • It is handicapped accessible • It is more sanitary than a wading pool The splash pad should be complete by June in time for Summer vacation! Q: I just moved to Meadow Pointe 1, what can I recycle? A: Meadow Pointe and the community have several opportunities to recycle and save our landfills! • Plastic Grocery Bags. Not for blue bag recycling. Many local grocery stores have boxes set up to collect these to recycle • Newspapers. Meadow Pointe CDD has two newspaper recycling dumpsters, located near the basketball courts. These dumpsters are for newspapers only. Proceeds of these dumpsters benefit Sand Pine Elementary • Other paper products. Residents wishing to recycle other paper products (telephone books, magazines, cardboard, office paper, cereal boxes, etc.) can drop them off at the dumpster at Sand Pine Elementary. • Ink cartridges. Our schools collect these and receive coupons at office supply stores, May 2011

consider donating them to the schools in our community, you’ll be helping both our schools and our landfills! • Electronics. Recycle those old TVs, computers, and other electronics that contain hazardous materials by dropping them off at the East Pasco Household Hazardous Waste Transfer Station at 9626 Handcart Road. Call (352) 521- 0500 for more information. • Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL). It is important not to put these in the garbage, as they have hazardous materials. Home Depot will take these to recycle. • Blue bag curbside recycling is every other Wednesday (May 11, 25) – See schedule at our website www.meadowpointecdd.com. Blue bags can be purchased at Pasco County grocery stores and some “super store” retailers. Items to be put in blue bags: - Aluminum & metal (food) cans, - #1 and #2 plastic containers - Glass bottles and jars. Please remove caps and/or lids. Please clean and rinse your items. • At Meadow Pointe 1 Fitness Center Office, boxes are set up for: - Used cell phones: Get rid of those old cell phones and help Wiregrass Ranch High School! - Batteries: (AAA, AA, C, D, and 9-volt) can be dropped off at Meadow Pointe 1 collection box. The proceeds will benefit Sand Pine Elementary.

A Message from our

Pond Maintenance Company

H

ere we are back to spring. The grass is growing and needs to be cut more often. The flowers are in bloom and there is a lot more maintenance to do around the house now. The algae and submerged plant life in the ponds are always ready to bloom as well. Here are a few rules that will aid in keeping the ponds from covering over with algae this summer.

2. When fertilizing stay 15 feet away from pond.

1. Keep your grass clippings out of the pond.

If there are any questions about the ponds or concerns please contact the clubhouse. Thanks you and let’s have a great spring.

Turn your mowers so that it blows away from ponds. This also means no dumping or blowing clippings in the storm drains. These all end in the ponds. Clippings in the ponds will result in a major algae bloom.

Fertilizer will grow pond plants and algae the same as it will grow your grass or plants.

3. Do not use the ponds for a dump site for trash,

landscape debris, old charcoal, or anything else. These ponds are stormwater control sites as well as ecosystems for various species of wild life.

Tony Smith Regional Manager American Ecosystems

Spring

here are many exciting things happening in the landscape. Plants are flushing with new growth and getting ready to bloom. This also means that insects are sure to soon follow. By now your grass should be turning green and needs to be cut weekly through the growing season. Also there are a few things that you should have done already to ensure you have healthy landscape for the summer. All plants and turf should have been fertilized with a well balanced blend of nutrients. In addition, May 2011

is here.

all winter damage plants should have been cut back and dead ones removed. Spring is an excellent time to plant annuals for a long flowering season. At Meadow Pointe II CDD we selected Angelonia for this rotation. Sometimes it is referred to as the summer Snap Dragon because of its multiple blooms. Angelonia is heat and drought tolerant and does not require excessive fertilizer to give you a full season of color. On behalf of Landscape Maintenance Professional, if there is anything we can do, please let the CDD know. v Page 13

Woof Walk

O

ver 20 people and their dogs gathered at The Meadow Pointe II Clubhouse parking lot on Saturday March 19 to raise money for Relay for Life. It was the first Woof Walk for Life event sponsored by the Meadow Pointe II Relay for Life team. “Woof Walk for Life” is a way to ‘take a bite out of cancer,’ smile, and make new friends, both canine and human, while supporting the life-saving mission of the American Cancer Society. “You can’t take your dogs to Relay for Life, so this is our way of involving our pets in the fight against Cancer”, Meadow Pointe II CDD Supervisor Mark Glassman said.

The turnout was good, and the firsttime event raised over $100 for ACS cancer research and programs. The Meadow Pointe II team’s passion to fight cancer is also at the forefront behind our motivation to run this event. We join the Cancer Society’s fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer. We want to help save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment

in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by promoting community awareness to join the fight. The Meadow Pointe Team also attended the Relay on April 29 & 30. If you are interested in joining the Meadow Pointe II team or are interested in starting your own team, you can contact Team Captain Mary at the Meadow Pointe II office at 813-991-5016. v

WCAA Warriors Boys Youth Lacrosse Season W

OW!! The WCAA Warriors Boys Youth Lacrosse team ended the season on a high note beating New Tampa April 17, bringing our tally to 11-4. WCAA Warriors Youth Lacrosse was made up of 5th and 6th graders—some who had never played or even seen a lacrosse game before the season started. With the help of it’s experienced players and coaches, our Youth Warriors fast became a tight knit lacrosse machine that proved to be a strong contender in the area. Congratulations to all our Warriors!

Now that lacrosse has gained momentum in Wesley Chapel, both leagues are looking for new and seasoned players. For more information please visit www.wclacrosse.org.

About the Game Lacrosse, very popular in the northeast, is a fastpaced game where every player is involved and the action is non-stop. It’s often been said that once a child tries lacrosse, they never want to go back to their old sport. It’s contagious, and spreading fast across Florida. The WCAA Warriors (recreation league—K-8th grade) season runs from January – mid April, and the Tribe (competitive league) runs throughout the summer and fall.

Sand Pine Elementary Spaghetti Dinner The Sand Pine Elementary School PTA hosted the second annual “That’s Amore” Spaghetti Dinner on April 1, 2011. Upon entering the cafeteria, the smell of food filled the air while Italian music played in the background. Red, white, and green balloons lined the room, and dinner tables were covered with colorful paper and crayons. Sand Pine families enjoyed a tasty dinner of pasta, meatballs, salad, and breadsticks. Following dinner, platters of Italian desserts and Italian Ices were served. There were plenty of smiling faces and full stomachs at the end of the night! Thanks to all of the PTA members and volunteers who helped to make this event such a success! The PTA would also like to thank Olive Garden for donating salad dressing and Grillsmith for donating breadsticks. Page 26

PEAQ Performance?

P

EAQ Performance is run by Frank Davis, current offensive guard for the Las Vegas Locomotives in the UFL (United Football League). Frank grew up in Panama where he played varsity football for the Jaguars F.C. and doubled as an offensive and defensive lineman. Davis played on the Panamanian under 19 national team at the 2000 NFL Global Junior Championship in Atlanta, GA. He was then recruited by University of South Florida,

and was offered an opportunity to join the Bulls’ program. Davis entered the program as a defensive lineman but was quickly converted to the offensive line. As a senior, Davis was named second team All Big East after starting all 12 games. In back to back seasons, he was a main piece to a strong rushing attack. Davis helped pave the way for RB Andre Hall to set school single season rushing records in 2004 and 2005, as well as the school’s career rushing record. Davis was then signed by the Detroit Lions

following the 2006 NFL draft. He was a member of the Lions for 2 years before a brief stint with Cincinnati Bengals. Since 2009, he has been with the Las Vegas Locomotives of the UFL, where he helped secure the Championship victory of the premiere season of the United Football League.

10. The county restricts the number of days a yard can be watered. But the ordinance still gives everyone enough time for sprinklers to do their job. Each resident must figure out how much irrigation time is needed to keep things green without wasting water. 11. Don’t blow or rake grass clippings into the street. They just wash into the ponds, where they will promote algae blooms. Clippings should go back onto the lawn to decompose and feed the turf instead. 12. Low-hanging branches of trees should be trimmed to provide at least eight feet of clearance over the sidewalk and 12 feet over the road. MEADOW Pointe NEWS

Vicki Piccirilli Earns A Pink Cadillac

V

icki Piccirilli, resident of Meadow Pointe, picked out her SIXTH new car, courtesy of Mary Kay Cosmetics at Ed Morse Cadillac when it arrives on site. Piccirilli’s unit (180 strong) were required to make a goal of $96,000 in wholesale production during a six month period of time in order to earn the newest Cadillac, an accomplishment that they achieved. Piccirilli started her Mary Kay career in January, 2004 and debuted as a Sales Director a year later in March, 2005. She earned her first Mary Kay career car in January 2005, her second Mary Kay career car in May 2005 and the prestigious Pink Cadillac in September, 2005, an amazing accomplishment of three cars in just nine months. Piccirilli and her “Pearls of Promise” unit finished the year as the #1 debuting unit in their class. They also earned the Top Sales Director trip to Costa Del Sol, Spain in their first full year as a unit together. Since then, Piccirilli and her unit have been in the Circle of Achievement every year. She has also been on the Queens Court of Sales and was on the Queens Court of Sharing for the second time this year, last year as #3 in the entire Pearl Seminar. Piccirilli has earned over 19 carats in diamonds from her Mary Kay business and has just earned her 6th free car, her 4th Pink Cadillac, the SRX. She has one first line offspring Director, Melissa Olsheski, who just earned her FIRST free car from Mary Kay. Piccirilli’s unit meets in Lutz at 1532 Land O Lakes Blvd in Suite C on Thursday nights and new guests are always welcome. If you would like to know more about the Mary Kay career path, or would like to attend a Thursday night meeting, you can speak with Piccirilli at 813997-3560 to attend as a guest. Piccirilli was a full time stay at home Mom before starting her Mary Kay career and was still able to continue raising her family while she grew her business. Piccirilli says that the lifelong friendships she has created through Mary Kay are worth more to her than all her earnings. She is grateful that her Mary Kay business gives her the opportunity to enrich women’s lives and earn a corporate income while keeping her priorities of God first, family second and career third. She is passionate about sharing all that God MEADOW Pointe NEWS

has done through her and for her through the Mary Kay opportunity. Vicki Piccirilli was born in London, England and moved to Florida when she was just seven years old. May 2011

She graduated from USF with a Bachelor Degree in Biology. Her “advice” to women starting their own businesses is to “Work like everything depends on you and pray like everything depends on God!” Look for her pink cadillac in the neighborhood! v Page 33
