As the full-bodied movement ascends within the cigar world, Nicaragua-based Diesel Unlimited has brought the tradition firmly into the millennium by creating the world’s first cigar to use the thick, meaty ligero leaf as a wrapper. The result is an ultra-rich, spicy shot of earth, leather and oak, with a hint of sweetness. This modern cigar milestone is hard to come by, but the experience is singular and unforgettable. ough County, the number of players participating in both leagues totaled 205. As they embarked on their task at hand, which was to promote and grow both leagues, neither Jeanne nor Sylvie could have known what an overwhelming success their efforts would lead to. By the end of the 2009 season, this dynamic duo helped organize 10 mixed doubles teams and 17 combo teams, totaling 350 players. In 2010, they dreamed even bigger by establishing a new winter season for the mixed doubles league in addition to the summer season and adding a local championship between the winners of both seasons. The results, as they say, speak for themselves. When the 2010 figures were tabulated, 50 teams featuring 678 players had participated in the two leagues, representing a whopping 330 percent increase over the 2008 participation numbers. v

GOLF TIP OF THE MONTH From New Golf Head Pro Jeff Anderson PGA
A Solid Preshot Routine Is A Must For Good Golf Do you have a Pre-Shot Routine? Do you know it? So many golfers have a Pre-Shot Routine for most golf shots but don’t even know what their routine is when asked in a lesson.
visual for the shot. I then stand parallel to the line of play, still well behind the ball and make 1 to 3 practice swings, looking to feel the swing that I want to make for that shot.
We don’t want to be the golfer who makes a swing, when it finally feels right. Unfortunately, without a good Pre-Shot Routine it may never feel right, opening the door for tension and anxiety to creep into our game, and as we all know, tension and anxiety are the killers of both your Golf game and life itself.
Now I am behind the ball, with arms hanging low and trying to get as loose and relaxed as possible.
Since golf is not a reaction sport, that golf ball is just going to sit there and sit there until the golfer addresses it and executes a shot. Let’s find a Pre-Shot Routine that we will understand and rely on when it is time to make the swing. Understanding your Pre-Shot Routine will really help to keep the tension and anxiety levels way down. Watch the professionals on Television and you will see that they all have a solid Pre-Shot Routine. Some will tell you that Pre-Shot Routine involves selection of a club, checking the wind etc....and that is not wrong at all. For me, it is after those other decisions have been made, and now it is time to execute the shot. Here is My Pre-Shot Routine: It starts behind the ball, looking down the line of play to get a
I now look down the line of play and bring my line of play in, closer to the ball (about 3 feet). I am now staring at the spot 3 feet in front of the ball and approaching the ball while still staring at that spot until I get my feet parallel to the spot and the line of play. Now that I am in a good set-up position and ready to make the swing I waggle and look, a 2nd waggle and a look and as soon as my club touches the ground after the 2nd waggle and look, I swing. Because I know that I will be swinging after the second waggle, tension and anxiety are kept at as low a level as possible giving me the opportunity to execute the best possible swing. Study the professionals; watch for their Pre-Shot Routine and re-evaluate yours. Find a style that fits your game and practiced it on the range. Remember, it is important to know your PreShot Routine so that you will be prepared to make the best possible swing for the shot at hand. v

Ready, Set, Action! in the New Tampa Area
I
n mid 2010 shooting began on “The Evening Room”, an A Movie Productions film by local filmmaker Victoria Jorgensen which focuses on relationships in today’s hectic world. What you might not know is that there are ties to this production in the New Tampa area. Craig Miller, president of Full Throttle Intermedia collaborated with Jorgensen on several projects over the last few years through Florida
Creative Alliance. These productions range from TV commercials and web videos to documentaries which focus on our wounded veterans transition through the healing process. Miller currently serves on the board of directors for the New Tampa Chamber of Commerce and also on the board of the Rotary Club of New Tampa.
“Aside from being able to work on these amazing projects, I want to promote film production in the Tampa Bay area,” Miller reflected during a recent interview - “We have an endless assortment of venues that are just perfect for movie sets and our weather is unrivaled anywhere. There are also many high profile actors living in our area. The Evening Room was cast with local actors such as Leslie Maine, Larry Bukovey and Mary Rachel Dudley in key roles.” (Search IMDB.com) Miller’s company, Full Throttle Intermedia (FTI) provided the edit of the film and trailer along with the poster design. FTI has garnered 4 Telly awards for projects produced in their New Tampa studio and he is hopeful that his post production efforts on The Evening Room will be recognized for its high caliber quality.
The Evening Room is currently in the final editing stages and will be sent to the composer for scoring and sound track soon. Upon its release in the spring of 2011 it will be entered in film festivals worldwide including Berlin and Toronto. Independent Film Festivals are frequented by industry representatives looking for the next great film that can be developed into features and/or television series. Craig and Victoria are collaborating on two more short film projects with a eye on the New Tampa area to be used as a backdrop. l For further questions contact: Craig A. Community Spotlight will get burned back and further stress your plant. A stressed plant can continue to live but becomes much more susceptible to disease, fungal problems and insect infestation. This is not a problem if you dislike the plant, however if you do like this plant and you want it to look good it will cost you more in time and money to rehabilitate the plant.
How to Deal with
Frost Damage W
ith the harsh winter we have had at the end of 2010 and beginning of 2011, there is an abundance of frost bitten plants. Many people ask what they should do with material that has been damaged by the cold. With the beautiful weather in between the cold snaps it is very tempting to get into the yard and start trimming off damage and pulling out what appears to be dead. Patience is a virtue and should be practiced in this case. Cutting off dead material, cutting your plants to the ground, adding
Page 22
fertilizer or even ripping plants out (if you like them and think they are dead) is not the right thing to do at this point of the year. We are not through with winter, and even though we are having some beautiful days and mild evenings we will probably get more cold weather. When you trim something that has been damaged by the cold it spurs new growth. The growth tends to be quicker when you get a few weeks of mild weather. These shoots are very tender though and if another cold front comes through that new growth
If you have a plant that has been burned by the cold and you no longer want it in the landscape there is no reason you could not just remove it. Keep in mind though that depending on the plant variety it may not be dead. Plants like Ixoras, Hibiscus, and Gingers will look dead above ground, but come spring will start to grow from the roots. This being said if you are on the fence about keeping your plants that are cold sensitive, be patient and wait for spring, they may surprise you. Florida has a long growing year and those plants may come
