LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER Happy Mother's Day to all the lovely ladies in Hunter's Green who have given so much of themselves to the children they have brought into the world. I wish you a day and life filled with love. There were many wonderful mothers I met this past month who shared stories, pictures and news with us. It is very rewarding to meet so many people through the newsletter each month. I look forward to meeting and getting to know more of you. For next month, think about sending Fathers Day stories and pictures. We are working on updating our website and our facebook page. Soon, all pictures that were not able to fit in print will be online. We will also be adding videos from different community events. So, send us your information and share it with your neighbors. I

n a time and in an economy where the game of golf and in particular many courses and private clubs are struggling, it is good to know that Your Neighborhood Club, Hunter’s Green Country Club is actually growing it's Golf Membership! The Club, recognizing the challenging times, launched a new Membership program back in June of 2010. The goal was to increase the number of Golf Members in the Club in a creative way that actually allowed current and new club Members dues to be lowered as the Membership grew. The ultimate goal is to reach our goal of 480 golf Memberships

by end of Spring 2011. When the goal is achieved all Golf Membership dues will be reduced to the new incredible rates with full privilege golf Memberships starting at just $203 per month. We are very proud to say that the Club has grown by a total of 100 golf members since the program launched in June of 2010 and is now only 50 Memberships away from their overall Golf Membership goal. If you are considering Club Membership there has never been a better time to take advantage of this unique opportunity. The Golf level of Membership, also allows you full access to the tennis and athletic facility, aquatics area, exercise classes, Member rates on after school child care services and summer camps. Tennis Tip of the Month Most of today's tennis players are able to play well from the baseline. Everybody likes to bang the ball back and forth from the back court, but when a shorter and softer ball comes in, it becomes interesting. Players need to master some fine motor skills as well as excellent speed and footwork in order to get to the softie and get it over the net. The only way to master these skills is to perform drills that constantly force repetition of these types of shots. Drilling within the service line and constant movement of the feet is imperative. Morning warm ups and stretching begin the day, and then it’s on to the courts with the Hunter’s Green certified USPTA Tennis Professionals. Instruction and drills on tennis fundamentals are stressed each morning for all levels. Players move from court to court learning the planned “Stroke of the Day”. Complimentary Gatorade breaks are provided to help ease the Florida sun.

Group Study Exchange from Israel

A team of four business professionals from Israel is headed our way

O

ver the Memorial Day weekend a team of four business professionals and one Rotarian team leader will be arriving in Florida as part of the first ever exchange with Israel as part of the Group Study Exchange(GSE) program. GSE is a Rotary Foundation sponsored program that gives business professionals from other countries a chance to experience what their counterparts are doing in another country. With the exception of the team leader, the participants are non Rotarians. The New Tampa evening Rotary Club has been selected as the first host club. The group will stay with us over the Memorial Day weekend. An American team will be chosen to go to Israel in 2011. Team members stay in Rotary homes while they are here.

Nuclear Medicine Now at Tower Radiology Center – Wesley Chapel

ower Radiology Centers is proud to announce that they have expanded their Nuclear Medicine services to their Wesley Chapel location. Nuclear Medicine is a branch of radiology that studies more about organ function and less about anatomy. This requires expertise in evaluating the structure and function of an organ, tissue, bone, or systems of the body using a specialized camera. New Tampa / Wesley Chapel Rotary Clubs 8th Annual Pig Fest May 14, 2011 from 10am to 3:30pm at St. Marks Catholic Church on Cross Creek Blvd. just East of Bruce B. Downs Blvd.

our Rotary Clubs have joined together to produce the event -- the New Tampa Rotary Club (the original event host), the New Tampa Noon Rotary Club, the Wesley Chapel Rotary Club and the Wesley Chapel Sunrise Rotary Club. There are many new features being added to the event. They are listed below.

HGE is ordering its student planners for the 2011-2012 school year. To help offset printing costs, they are seeking business owners to place an ad or message in the planner, which will be seen daily by several thousand customers for the entire school year. This can saves the school thousands of dollars! Wharton High School News Wharton Forensic Team Scores National Berth

Wharton High School's Forensic Team has made it to the national competition. Crown Trophy, a New Tampa Chamber member, is challenging other New Tampa Chamber members to donate $20 or more to help defray the cost of this academic competition for the young men and women of our community. She is in charge of the entire Forensic program at Wharton. The Forensic Team is a debate, legal studies and political science. The team needs contributions by May 6, 2011. Kathy Haughey and Marianne Wesolowski are the Teachers of the Month for April. The Wharton Winter Guard are the 2011 Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit State Champions Gold Medalists. The Math Bowl Team placed 4th in the County. Two students placed 1st in individual competitions. Both the Boys and Girls Tennis teams are advancing to the Regionals. HG

Summer Camp Just For Girls! GSWCF summer camps are open to all girls entering grades 1 – 12, whether or not they’re Girl Scouts.

Day and overnight camps are offered throughout June and July at all five of the council’s camp properties – there’s something for every girl! Non-Girl Scouts who register for summer camp will pay a one-time fee of $12 to join. GSWCF camp properties are: Camp Dorothy Thomas (Riverview), Camp Indian Echo (Hudson), Camp Scoutcrest (Odessa), Camp Wai Lani (Palm Harbor) and Camp Wildwood (Wildwood). Games, dance, the arts, horseback riding, water skiing, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and swimming are among the many activities offered. Can’t decide on just one? Not quite sure about sleeping away for a week? Girls can customize their camp experiences. All sessions include sports, nature exploration, and arts and crafts for a well-rounded camp experience. Senior to Watch Contest Attention Graduating Class of 2012!

To enter submit a short essay telling us why you, or someone you know is the “Senior to Watch” in the 2011/2012 school year. Tell us things like; what you are most looking forward to about your senior year of high school, how you plan to be involved in your community, and what your plans are after you graduate. In order to qualify for this contest you must live in Hunter's Green and you must be an incoming 2011/2012 senior. Graduate class of 2012! The winner will receive a full 1 to 2 hour Senior Portrait Session at the location of their choice, multiple outfit changes, and a full makeover by Divine Appointment Salon, complete with a haircut, color/highlight, style, and make up application (for the ladies), the day of your session. Hunter's Green Charity Event GFWC New Tampa Junior Woman's Club members and Hunter's Green and Arbor Greene residents got together for a fun filled evening at the Night of 5000 on April 16th at the Firefighter's Museum in Tampa.

T

he evening benefited the Gold Shield Foundation. The elegantly dressed group piled into a 35 passenger, 2011, limo bus and headed off. What is the Gold Shield Foundation? In 1981, two firefighters and one police officer were killed in Hillsborough County, Florida, in the line of duty, leaving behind widows and dependent children. George M. Steinbrenner, principal owner of the New York Yankees, organized a group of concerned, civic minded citizens to insure that that families of these and subsequent fallen heroes in Hillsborough County receive early financial assistance and are guaranteed funds toward a college education. Membership in the Foundation is open and supported by dues, donations and special events.

In 1989, through another personal donation, George expanded the foundation's coverage to include Pinellas County. Citrus County joined by a contribution through the U.S. Family Foundation. Businessman Melvin Draft donated funds for Pasco County and Les and Pam Muma contributed for Polk County's involvement. Hernando County, Marion County and MacDill AFB Law Enforcement and Firefighting personnel are also under the Gold Shield umbrella. Currently 7 nearby Florida counties are covered. HG
