Nowadays, in a perpetuosly changing society, we can only answer to our temporary essential needs, without the possibility of anticipation. The next move cannot be determined exactly so all proposals should have a range of flexibility which satisfies both further changes and the diversity of the individuals. The tendency to create individuality inside the anonymity, at the same time satisfying the density problem, leads to the concept of individuality for the masses, not just housing for the masses. The site, with difficult limits and buildings surounding it, leads the volumetric aspect to a divided ensemble. This allows different types of courtyards separated by narrow passages associated with the right degrees of intimacy. With modules as a constant element in mind in the whole procces, the project’s main goal was to create all types of appartments.

Along with Nicolae Ceausescu’s communist regime the city suffered some irreparable changes. A valuable part of Bucharest’s hystorical areas was Uranus Hill - with an outstanding value - calm but full of alive streets, modest houses - a powerful community. The urban planning which came along with building of House of People (1984-1989) and Unirii Blvd. lead to Uranus’ demolishing. The image of this new E-V axis was meant to be imposing and monumental, but it was never finished due to Ceausescu’s fall. After the ‘90s revolution the building hostes the Parliament. Below Bucharest there are layered webs of tunnels and bunkers which connect the Parliament to the main institutes and other strategic points. The pallace stands for itself in a way that Ceausescu didn’t intend: only as a presence through its massivity, but not spiritually. Though it is the House of People, it is mainly inaccessible because of its function. The tunnels, the large pool below and other rooms (secret rooms) are closed to the crowd, covering the whole ensemble with mistery and a feeling of unknown.
“Under the main tunnel lie other tunnels and bunkers, which spread like a web below Bucharest” Against the House of People, on the opposite end of Unirii axis, there is the Alba Iulia square. In order to make a public statement regarding the secret catacombes, here will stand a giant labyrinth. The inside and outside don’t communicate in the usual way, so they can’t be simultaneously percieved. The curiosity regarding the ‘other side’ can only be satisfied by exploring it. Giant brutal concrete walls and thick green walls rise from the site in a complex composition with dead ends and tricky tracks.

The protected area includes the old jewish neighborhood, severely affected by the communist regime’s demolitions. With a great variety of architectural styles, this part of Bucharest represents a true and unique synthesis of the first half of 20th century. Organic street network, irregular courtyards with ensembles of volumes, narrow corners, sidewalks with variable dimensions. Blind alleys are a common element, forming a more intimate space for the houses that define them. The crossroads are usually ample, either with monumental building corners, or fluent spaces created by convergent corner facades. The junctions are adapted with the most pitoresque solutions, many of them consisting in the intersection of three or five streets. The rigidity and power of the lines mix with organic mellow curves through all the architectural styles present in the area. The inside configuration is visible on the outside through staircases, balconies, monumental entrances. Recent interventions alter the big image because of the height, color, proportions and principle difference. They not only affect the atmosphere, they also put in shade valuable houses. Vegetation plays an important part; besides shade, it has an esthetic role and a functional one too - intimacy. Green walls are the most frequent.
The proposal is a community center. Inspired by the main typology of the nearby houses, the volumes are narrow with a linear display, generating the same kind of courtyards. This allows both a segregation between rooms and functions, and an intimate visual contact. The volumes are alligning with the adiacent houses and conform to the standard height. As for the facade proportions, it keeps the rythm of the others despite its large opening at the street.

The site lies behind Alba Iulia square, the endpoint of one of Bucharest’s main E-V axis, Unirii Blvd. The whole image and the display of the functions (residential, commercial, religious, industrial, educational) are very patchy, leaving many unused spaces. Since there are no parks or gathering places for the community, the proposal involves an old needle factory and the afferent lot. The project is an installation made of old rail tracks from the depot nearby, materialising the idea of both intimate and accesible place for the inhabitants and using “local” resources. Three iron “ribbons” with three uses - sitting, lighting and watering - spread from the factory as a modular spacial web throughout the place. Based on density and height, it creates playgrounds, shaded intimate areas, gathering areas, little ponds, support for creeper plants.

The site is placed in the old center of the Constanta. For the past two d old degrading houses were taken over by homeless people. For a very l the whole area begins to have a new face. Reminder of the transition, th a remaining facade wall of a demolished house, integrating it in a cafe a inside animates the square especially by night.
decades the whole area has been almost completely neglected, despite the museums, the role and position of the square, the hystorical value; long time this has been the image of the old city: worksites, scaffolds, visible structures, dispersed bricks. Yet, along with the revival of the coast, he project preserves a part of that unfinished, undecided look, in the creation of which anyone of us (locals) could play a role. The scaffold protects and suspended promenade. People’s role in the city image is materialised through their shadows projected on the large material. The fuss on the

Buzesti Street / Bucharest / Romania office buildings 10th 14 weeks 2015 team assignment (coautor Corneliu Dob prof. dr. arch. Florin Biciusca

The Buzesti - Berzei N-S artery represents a line, a limit that separates 2 areas with totally different characteristics. The lack of simmilarities lies in the way of evolution, functionality, image, street configuration, density, traffic. The sepparate evolution of the two areas can be seen by comparing the current map and the one from 2002, and even more with older maps. Stil, after 2002 the rythm of changes was vastly accelerated. On the left side, due to the main trainstation, the tendency of densification is remarked through demolishing old houses, building more efficent housing, offices, markets. Considering the natural evolution of the city and more specifically, the area, housing and office are the main need. Since there is no urban/architectural/social program that completely satisfies both office buildings and housing, the concept is based on separating and putting them together at the same time. The proposed module is intended to be applied on a bigger scale in places with the same needs and context. Just like a citadel, the housing part is introverted and autosufficient; It offers nothing but a wall to the exterior. Betwen it and the “outside world is the narrow protection canal. The public part spreads like a parasite, filling like a liquid everything between the limits. The appartments are all oriented to an interior courtyard with commercial spaces at the ground floor. On the other side, the fuss takes over the multifunctional ensemble: offices, commercial spaces, gym. It hosts impersonal flexible spaces, in trend with the needs of today’s society - a place for everyone and for nobody.
