OUR COUNTRY, REGION AND TOWN

Spain, Castilla La Mancha region and Quintanar del Rey in Cuenca


We are strudents from Quintanar del Rey and VillagarcĂ­a del Llano, a village near the school. We both live mainly from the mushroom industry and wine too.


TOURISTIC LEAFLETS OF OUR PLACES TO VISIT Ciudad Real, tha land of Don Quixote’s novel. It is important for its wind mills, wine and cheese

It was conquered by the King Alfonso X and near Ciudad Real there are important mercury mines from Almaden and the oldest theatre in Spain in Almagro from the 16th century. The Classical Theatre Festival takes place there in July.


Toledo is the capital city of Castilla La Mancha and it is called the city of the three cultures: the Jewish, the Arab and the Christian. Form the ancient times all these cultures have been living together here. It is known as the “Imperial City” because it was the royal place of king Carlos I of Spain and V of Germany. During his reign Toledo was the capital of Spain but after his reign with king Felipe II the Crown was moved to Madrid and so the capital of Spain was up to now Madrid. The main cultural heritage here is the Cathedral, The Alcazar where the Library of Castilla La Mancha is, The Mosque of Sta. María la Blanca, The Greco’s Museum, The Transit Sinagogue and the Monastery of S. Juan de los Reyes.


Cuenca is our reference. Our towns belong to Cuenca. It is a city placed in the north of Castilla La Mancha. It is famous for its cathedral and the hanging houses on a rock. Cuenca is placed in a rocky landscape with two rivers crossing it: the Jucar and the Huecar river.


Albacete is another important city of Castilla La Mancha and it is very famous for its Fair of September in honour of the Virgiin of Los Llanos. It is important the knives of Albacete and the Bullring. Albacete has got a beautiful landscapes with the mountains near Murcia and some important towns as Chinchilla with its castle, Yeste in the mountains, the River Mundo and Almansa’s Castle in the boundaries with Alicante and the Valencian Region.


Guadalajara is in the north of Castilla La Mancha and it is famous for the Palace of Infantado. The villages of Guadalajara are small and known as “black villages� due to they are build with dark stones that make them have a dark and dull appearance. They are considered cultural heritage protected by the UNESCO.


SCHOOL EVENTS

The school organized during the school year some events as the “Mascotaton� a pet race taken by each student running with their pets along the streets of Quintanar del Rey and the visit to the local library to see an exhibition about forbidden books in the world .


An exhibition at the local library about forb idden books in the world and the reasons why they cannot be read and published. Students from 3rd PMAR attended this school event with their two teachers.


SCHOOL TRIP TO THE MEDIEVAL VILLAGE OF MOYA In May we travelled for a day to the medieval village of Moya in the east side of Cuenca county near Valencia. There you can see the ruins of a medieval village that has its castle and church from the 11th century. We had a rest in a rural hotel and had a nice swim because it was hot.


A NOVEL OF MARK TWAIN THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER

The students have read this book in English and have commented the plot, characters, settings, time, vocabulary and style using the scrapbook technique. They also have made some research upon Mark Twain.


Dialogues among the characters: Tom Sawyer, Becky Thatcher, Aunt Polly , Huck Finn, Joe Harper, Mary, Amy Lawrence, Judge Thatcher, Mr. Walters, Ben Rogers, Dr.Robinson, Johnny Miles, Sidney and the goat.


THE MAKING – OFF THE SCRAPBOOK

Students who made this scrapbook possible left their opinion of the project done and learn from it to develop creativity and imagination at the same time they are able to narrate their own stories using the american tecnique of the scrapbooking as Mark Twain did in his time.
