at Cal State Stanislaus WARRIORS Friday, December 3 • 5:30 p.m.

1-3, 0-2 ccaa

Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena at Turlock, Calif.

The Warriors, led by ninth-year head coach Sharon Turner-Dean, have opened up with a very tough schedule thus far. Three of the four games have been against teams currently ranked in the USA Today/ ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. Cal State Stanislaus hosted No. 18 Wayne State (Nebraska) to open the season, but fell 72-49. A win against Cal Maritime evened the Warriors record, but two straight losses to travel partner Chico State, now ranked 21st in the national coaches poll, have dropped Cal State Stanislaus to 1-3 and 0-2 in conference play. Katie Busi and Christin Gowan lead the Warriors with 15.3 and 12.5 points per game, respectively. SSU is 18-8 under head coach Mark Rigby -- the team’s split last year’s season series.

at #21 Chico State WILDCATS Saturday, December 4 • 5:30 p.m.

4-0, 2-0 ccaa

Art Acker Gymnasium at Chico, Calif.

The Wildcats, under the guidance of third-year head coach Brian Fogel, will head into this weekend’s play with an unblemished 4-0 record, including a 2-0 mark in conference play with a pair of wins over travel partner Cal State Stanislaus. Ranked No. 21 in this week’s USA Today/ ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, knocked off Academy of Art and Hawaii Pacific in the Coslet Classic at Chico on Nov. 19-20. Led by twotime CCAA Player of the Week Natasha Smith, Chico State will look to advance to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year after reaching the Sweet 16 last season. Smith is averaging 16.3 points per game and Pauline Ferrall is chipping in with 12.3 a game. SSU split the season series with Chico last season, including a 67-66 overtime win by the Seawolves at Rohnert Park on a Jaclyn Bisordi 3-ball at the buzzer.

Seawolves Snap Four-Game Skid vs. Humboldt State

Behind 20 points from junior Aly Conway, the Seawolves snapped a four-game losing streak to archrival Humboldt State with a 73-65 win over the Lumberjacks on Saturday at Lumberjack Arena in Arcata. It was the hottest shooting performance of the season for Sonoma State, who connected on 29-of-53 shots (.547) in the game. The Seawolves improved to an unblemished 3-0 record to start the season for the second time in the past three seasons.

Conway Leading the Way

Junior Aly Conway, who scored a career-high 20 points in Saturday’s victory at Humboldt State, scored in double-digits for the first time in her career. She hit on 8-of-9 shots on the night and is second in the CCAA in field goal percentage (.714).

More News and Notes 2009-10 Season in Review

After finishing 11-16 overall and 9-13 in conference play last season, Sonoma State just barely missed an opportunity to play in the CCAA Championship Tournament. It came down to a coin flip between four teams -- Cal State San Bernardino, Sonoma State, Cal State Stanislaus, and Cal State Dominguez Hills. All tied for seventh with 9-13 records. The four-way tie was broken based on head-to-head play, securing a berth for Cal State San Bernardino and eliminating Cal State Stanislaus. In a two-way tie between Sonoma and Dominguez Hills for the eighth and final spot, all tie-breaking criteria were even, thus prompting a coin flip that was won by the Toros, leaving the Seawolves out of the eightteam tournament. Sonoma State was led by the 8.3 points of senior Stephanie Barnes.

2010-11 Sonoma State Women's Basketball Head Coach Mark Rigby Mark Rigby returns for his 14th season as head coach of the Seawolves in 2010-11. The winningest coach in SSU women’s basketball history, Rigby has led his teams to an impressive 204-155 mark in 13 years at SSU. In conference play, Rigby’s Seawolves have amassed a record of 150-116. Rigby has delivered a winning season in nine of his 13 seasons at the helm, including three 20-win seasons. In his first two years at Sonoma State, Rigby led his team to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons, including a school-record 23 victories in 1998-99. His teams have participated in the NCAA West Regionals six times, a feat no other basketball coach has accomplished at SSU. A true student of the game, Rigby’s squads emphasize teamwork, defense, and hustle. In 1997-98, Rigby led SSU to their first-ever conference championship and what was at the time a school record 20 wins. In addition, the team enjoyed their first trip to the NCAA tournament. He capped off the season by being named NCAC Coach of the Year. Rigby was also honored as CCAA Co-Coach of the Year after guiding his 2001-02 team to a 21-8 record and the second round of the NCAA tourney.
