Thursday, December 30 • 5:30 p.m.

RIMAC Arena at La Jolla, Calif.

After losing their first five games of the season, including a 120-118 triple-overtime loss to Grand Canyon on Nov. 14, the Tritons have bounced back to go 4-2 in their last six contests. Most recently, though, UC San Diego fell to Humboldt State in double-overtime on Saturday in La Jolla. The Tritons have played two double-OT games and one triple-OT game and are 0-3 in those contests. Four players are averaging in double-figures, led by junior Chelsea Carlisle, the reigning CCAA Most Valuable Player. She is second in the conference, scoring 18.8 points per game and leads the CCAA in assists (5.5) and steals (2.8). Sonoma State is just 1-10 against UC San Diego in the last 11 games, while the Tritons have won six straight. The Seawolves haven’t won at La Jolla since a 60-55 win on 1/30/04.

vs. Humboldt State LUMBERJACKS Sunday, January 2 • 1:00 p.m.

4-4, 1-3 ccaa

The Wolves’ Den at Rohnert Park, Calif.

The Lumberjacks earned a season-opening victory over Saint Martin’s on Nov. 19, but then lost four straight, dropping to 1-4 early on. However, Humboldt State has bounced back and have won three consecutive games, including an 76-73 overtime win over Academy of Art and, most recently, a 92-88 double-overtime victory at UC San Diego on Saturday. Three players are averaging in double-figures for the ‘Jacks -- Jeanette Dewitt (14.3), Bree Halsey (14.1) and Jenna Hamilton (11.6). Halsey, a one-time CCAA Player of the Week already this season, is averaging a double-double, grabbing 10.8 rebounds a game -- she has four double-doubles already this season. Humboldt State has won four straight against Sonoma State, dating back to 2008. The last Seawolf regular season win over the ‘Jacks was back on 12/20/06 in Rohnert Park (SSU beat HSU in the CCAA tournament on 3/4/08).

Sonoma State on Hiatus Until La Jolla Trip

With the holiday season upon us, the Sonoma State women’s basketball team is taking 11 days off from competition before returning to action at UC San Diego on Dec. 30. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla. The Seawolves will then fly north to ring in the new year, hosting archrival Humboldt State on Jan. 2 at The Wolves Den, beginning at a special matinee time of 1 p.m.

On Saturday in Hayward, trailing by 20 points with under nine minutes to play, host Cal State East Bay went on a furious 25-7 run and trimmed the Seawolves lead to just two points at 58-56. However, junior Aly Conway helped Sonoma State secure the 60-56 victory with a put-back layup with 25 seconds left. It snapped a four-game losing streak for the Seawolves, who started the season 3-0. Conway dropped in 15 points and junior Aly Henington chipped in with 12 for Sonoma State, who moved back to .500 in the standings (4-4 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA).

Sonoma State Picked to Finish 10th in CCAA Preseason Poll

In a preseason poll of coaches around the California Collegiate Athletic Association, Sonoma State was picked to finish 10th this season. Four-time defending regular season champion UC San Diego was selected to win the CCAA. Chico State and Cal Poly Pomona rounded out the top three. The Seawolves were selected to finish above Cal State Stanislaus and Cal State East Bay, respectively.

2009-10 Season in Review

After finishing 11-16 overall and 9-13 in conference play last season, Sonoma State just barely missed an opportunity to play in the CCAA Championship Tournament. It came down to a coin flip between four teams -- Cal State San Bernardino, Sonoma State, Cal State Stanislaus, and Cal State Dominguez Hills. All tied for seventh with 9-13 records. The four-way tie was broken based on head-to-head play, securing a berth for Cal State San Bernardino and eliminating Cal State Stanislaus. In a two-way tie between Sonoma and Dominguez Hills for the eighth and final spot, all tie-breaking criteria were even, thus prompting a coin flip that was won by the Toros, leaving the Seawolves out of the eightteam tournament. Sonoma State was led by the 8.3 points of senior Stephanie Barnes.

2010-11 Sonoma State Women's Basketball Head Coach Mark Rigby Mark Rigby returns for his 14th season as head coach of the Seawolves in 2010-11. The winningest coach in SSU women’s basketball history, Rigby has led his teams to an impressive 204-155 mark in 13 years at SSU. In conference play, Rigby’s Seawolves have amassed a record of 150-116. Rigby has delivered a winning season in nine of his 13 seasons at the helm, including three 20-win seasons. In his first two years at Sonoma State, Rigby led his team to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons, including a school-record 23 victories in 1998-99. His teams have participated in the NCAA West Regionals six times, a feat no other basketball coach has accomplished at SSU. A true student of the game, Rigby’s squads emphasize teamwork, defense, and hustle. In 1997-98, Rigby led SSU to their first-ever conference championship and what was at the time a school record 20 wins. In addition, the team enjoyed their first trip to the NCAA tournament. He capped off the season by being named NCAC Coach of the Year. Rigby was also honored as CCAA Co-Coach of the Year after guiding his 2001-02 team to a 21-8 record and the second round of the NCAA tourney.
