The Golden Eagles are led by Lacy Ramon, who averages 13.4 points per game and has blocked a team-high 19 shots. Gretchen Tiernan also averages in double-figures for Cal State L.A., scoring 11.9 points per contest. Tiernan is also the teamโ€™s leader in rebounds, corralling 6.0 boards a game. She also leads the team in assists with 53. Sonoma State Hits The Road for Southern California This Weekend

It will be a change of scenery for the Sonoma State womenโ€™s basketball team this weekend, as they will travel south to face Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday and Cal State L.A. on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to tipoff at 5:30 p.m. The Seawolves have played their last five games at home in The Wolvesโ€™ Den. It will be a brief two-game road swing, though, as SSU will return home next weekend for a four-game homestand.

Seawolves Snap Skid, Defeat Gators, Then Fall to Unbeaten Otters

After suffering through four straight losses and an 0-5 record at home in 2010-11, the Sonoma State womenโ€™s basketball team used a stifling defensive performance to defeat San Francisco State on Thursday night, 46-37. It was the least amount of points given up by the Seawolf defense since SSU defeated Cal State L.A. 52-36 last season in Los Angeles. Two nights later, Sonoma State faced Cal State Monterey Bay, the only remaining undefeated team in the CCAA. After digging themselves out of a big early deficit, the Sonoma State womenโ€™s basketball team played some of their best basketball of the year in a 63-55 loss to the Otters.

Conway Right On Target

Junior Aly Conway is quickly becoming a threat down low for the Seawolves this season, and her shooting efficiency is a direct result of that. Her 53.5 percent shooting from the floor is the CCAAโ€™s best mark so far this season, as sheโ€™s connecting on 46 of 86 in Sonoma Stateโ€™s first 14 games. Conway is third on the team in scoring, averaging 9.1 points per contest. The 6-foot forward from Martinez leads the team in rebounds with 6.9 per game and is third in the conference in offensive rebounds (3.4/game).

Insider Blog Featuring Larkin, Vigil

Senior Oly Larkin and sophomore Taylor Vigil are regular contributors to the new Seawolves Insider Blog. Check in to get their thoughts on the season as it progresses as they will give an insider look on this yearโ€™s Sonoma State womenโ€™s basketball team. Go to http://sonomaseawolves.blogspot.com for more information and to read into what else is going on around the department through the eyes of student-athletes on the other 12 intercollegiate sports at Sonoma State University.

Sonoma State Picked to Finish 10th in CCAA Preseason Poll

In a preseason poll of coaches around the California Collegiate Athletic Association, Sonoma State was picked to finish 10th this season. Four-time defending regular season champion UC San Diego was selected to win the CCAA. Chico State and Cal Poly Pomona rounded out the top three. The Seawolves were selected to finish above Cal State Stanislaus and Cal State East Bay, respectively.

2010-11 Sonoma State Women's Basketball Head Coach Mark Rigby Mark Rigby returns for his 14th season as head coach of the Seawolves in 2010-11. The winningest coach in SSU womenโ€™s basketball history, Rigby has led his teams to an impressive 204-155 mark in 13 years at SSU. In conference play, Rigbyโ€™s Seawolves have amassed a record of 150-116. Rigby has delivered a winning season in nine of his 13 seasons at the helm, including three 20-win seasons. In his first two years at Sonoma State, Rigby led his team to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons, including a school-record 23 victories in 1998-99. His teams have participated in the NCAA West Regionals six times, a feat no other basketball coach has accomplished at SSU. A true student of the game, Rigbyโ€™s squads emphasize teamwork, defense, and hustle. In 1997-98, Rigby led SSU to their first-ever conference championship and what was at the time a school record 20 wins. In addition, the team enjoyed their first trip to the NCAA tournament. He capped off the season by being named NCAC Coach of the Year. Rigby was also honored as CCAA Co-Coach of the Year after guiding his 2001-02 team to a 21-8 record and the second round of the NCAA tourney.

One of the most successful high school coaches in the area, Rigby was the head coach at Ursuline High School in Santa Rosa for ten seasons. At Ursuline, he compiled an oustanding 253-54 record while capturing nine North Bay League championships and the 1992 CIF Division IV State Championship. After his stint at Ursuline, Rigby joined the staff at Santa Rosa Junior College for two years prior to his arrival at Sonoma State.
