If freshman Karenee Demery hasn’t been on the radar of Cal State Stanislaus opponents, she should be now. This week’s Wilson/CCAA Player of the Week leads the conference in scoring with nine goals and 20 points, already establishing a program freshman record for goals scored -- only six matches into the season. She has led the Warriors to the top of the North Division standings and their only loss came in double-overtime to 14th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino on Friday. Sonoma State swept the season series with Cal Stanislaus last season and are 17-2-1 all-time against the Warriors.
Led by junior forward Lisa Webster, the Chico State women’s soccer team heads into this weekend’s competition on a high note after handing 14thranked Cal State San Bernardino their only loss of the 2010 season on Sunday, a 2-1 triumph. Webster was instrumental in the Sunday’s upset of the Coyotes, scoring a goal and recording an assist on what was the eventual game-winning score. She leads the team with three goals and seven points. Sonoma State and Chico State tied both matches against each other last season -- two of Chico’s NCAA record-breaking nine ties last season.
Seawolves Earn Point Off Tritons, First In History Going into Sunday’s match against then-25th-ranked UC San Diego, the Sonoma State women’s soccer team had never earned a point against the Tritons in its history. Battling through a scoreless match that included two overtimes, the Seawolves forced a tie, earning their first point in 15 matches against UCSD. Sonoma State is now 0-14-1 against UC San Diego. 400 Minutes And Counting... For the fourth straight match, the Seawolves were held scoreless, breaking a school record for the longest scoring draught in program history. Sonoma State has not found the net since Taylor Colacion scored the game winner on Sept. 2 against Western Oregon with 26 seconds remaining. SSU has gone 400 minutes and 26 seconds without a goal. Coaches Pick Sonoma State To Finish Second in CCAA North In a preseason poll of the head coaches in the CCAA, the Sonoma State women’s soccer team was picked to finish second in the CCAA North Division. Head coach Luke Oberkirch will return nine starters to his lineup this season and plenty of key role players with another year of collegiate experience. Sonoma State earned four first-place votes and 56 points in the vote behind North Division favorite Chico State, who garnered eight first-place votes and 63 tallies. Despite the projected second place finish in the north, the coaches predict that the Seawolves will just barely miss the four-team conference tournament at the end of the regular season. SSU collected five votes as national runner-up Cal State Dominguez Hills (11), defending conference champion Cal State L.A. (11), defending North Division champion Chico State (9) and UC San Diego (9) earned the projected top four spots. 2009 Year in Review Coming off a 15-win season in 2008 and a first place finish in the CCAA North Division,

2010 Sonoma State Women’s Soccer Roster
Head Coach Luke Oberkirch Luke Oberkirch begins his 16th season as head coach of the women’s soccer team at Sonoma State University. Since 1995, when he took over as head coach, Luke Oberkirch has complied a 185-88-29 overall record and a 123-54-25 mark in conference play. In his 15 complete seasons, Oberkirch has guided his team to seven first place finishes, including five in the CCAA’s North Division and two in the Northern California Athletic Conference. The 2009 season was one of frustration and missed opportunities for a talented Sonoma State squad. Stricken by numerous injuries, especially on the attack, the Seawolves stumbed to an 8-9-3 overall record, though they did still finish in a second place tie in the CCAA North. Eight of their nine losses came by a single goal. Despite it all, defender Lindsay Catton was named an All-American for the second straight year, becoming the first SSU player to accomplish the back-to-back feat since 1998. Coach Oberkirch joined the Sonoma State staff in 1990, the year the women’s soccer team brought home the school’s first-ever NCAA National Championship. As SSU’s top assistant coach from 1990-94 under Peter Reynaud, Oberkirch was an important part of the team’s incredible success. The teams won five consecutive NCAC titles and made the NCAA playoffs five years in a row. In 1995, Oberkirch was named the third head coach in the program’s history. Prior to coming to Sonoma State, Oberkirch was head coach of the boys soccer team at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa from 1987-89. In 1988, his team won the North Bay League Championship and in each of his three seasons, his team made the CIF North Coach Section playoffs. A San Diego State graduate, Oberkirch received his B.A. in Physical Education in 1987 and earned his teaching credential from Sonoma State in 1989. Luke and his wife Michele reside in Cloverdale with their son Jayk.

the Seawolves got off to a great start in 2009 with two straight convincing wins to start the year – two non-conference victories against Hawaii-Hilo and Notre Dame de Namur. Then, a weekend trip to Washington State slowed the Seawolves’ momentum with two one-goal losses against Saint Martin’s and Western Washington before conference play started a week later. Sonoma State would go on to win its first CCAA matches, but then played extra time in four of its next five matches, which could account for the injuries suffered early on. With 10 conference matches to play, the Seawolves found themselves at 2-2-2, including four double overtime nail-biters, causing some physical and emotional fatigue. The rest of the schedule showed some up and down moments, but the Seawolves ended on a high note, winning two of their last three matches. They found themselves in unchartered territory, though, as Sonoma State fell under the .500 mark for the first time since 1986 with an 8-9-3 record.
