This article assumes you have played or are familiar with how to play this game. Choose your starting Destination Cards wisely Keeping more than one destination that takes a lot of trains can be disastrous. If two long routes overlap it can work out but be careful. Basically you only have so many trains be aware of how many the long routes will take. Even if you figure out the shortest most direct way someone could take one or more of your planned routes. This could leave you short on trains as you have to take a longer way. Always try to select destination cards that have routes that overlap. It is more efficient and almost like scoring double. Try to get the Longest Train Another thing to keep in mind when choosing destination cards is whether you can link them together into one long train. This will help you get the longest train which scores you 10 extra points. I have seen this bonus win many games for people. The extra points may win you the game but don't count on the longest train alone to win you games. Keep an eye on the board What are other people are doing? Can you stop the current points leader from getting the longest train? It is obvious someone is trying to connect St. Louis and Nashville? Block their path and make them take the long way. You may be able to tell where someone is headed by looking at what colors they are drawing and where their current trains are. Take what you need Draw cards that are showing in the colors you need first. If there are no colors you need then take a random card from the top of the draw deck. If the first one you drew matches any that are faceup, take the match as your second draw, if not take another random one from the draw deck. Place long routes With this strategy you finish your initial destination cards quickly. Then you get as many routes that are six long as you can. A connection that is six trains is worth 15 points which is better than most of the destination cards and much easier to get! Hopefully these tips will help you win that next game of Ticket to Ride you play. Do you have any tips I didn't think of?
