THE RHYTHM WAVES A Place To Perform

The Rhythm Waves is a place to share, to communicate and create different levels of interactions. The entire concept is based on ‘density’, in term of visibility, volumes, interaction, light and shadows. The visibility into the space changed depending on the standing levels and view directions, thus create different level of interactions and connections between societies and public.

008 UNIVERSITY

The amount of visibility from Sussex House into the surrounding buildings change depending on the standing levels and view directions. This is divided into three categories: exposed, half-hidden and hidden. There are three different type of relations between houses and twittens/lanes in Lewes: exposed, half-hidden and hidden. The exposed: houses located directly on the street, allowing for public view into the private space through large windows. Half-hidden: houses are partly hidden behind walls that allow only certain degree of visibility. Hidden: Houses that have no visual connection with the public. The idea of ‘density’ is applied on the building, each space is in different height, volumes and levels that enables different hierarchy of interaction and visibility.

The Rhythm Waves aim to provide different level of interaction between spaces, members and public. The dance studio is a new structures with different floor levels that located in the front part of building. Public could view the dancer’s foot and movement from the front facade. The sounds are different in each part of the building. Some spaces are soundproof but still allowing public to view inside. For example, public could only view the movement of the dancer but could not hear the music. Some of the space are hidden but public could slightly hear the music. The intervention uses materials with different hierarchy of visibility: solid walls, translucent glass, mesh, and tempered glass. The main purpose is to create a layered interaction between society members and public, enabling direct or indirect communication.

The section drawings show the different levels within the existing and new building. The visibility level is different in each spaces, either exposed (glass), opaque (mesh, frosted glass) or hidden (walls), to create the idea of multiple layers.

014 RESIDENTIAL

TAYNTON HARMONI Taynton Harmoni is a bungalow for a small family. The bungalow site is located within suburb which is full of greenery, thus open concept interior is implement to allow natural sunlight and ventilation. Stone, timber and earth tone colour is applied to create balance between the environment and interior.

016 RESIDENTIAL There is always problem of lack of social interactions and communication in a bungalow due to the interior space and division. The open concept in ground floor encourage social interaction and separated in distinct zones for various activities. Each individuals could do their activities in different zones and still able to interact with one another.
