The unit Design: Enterprise and Innovation is a professional live project focused on the producing of three Fashion Events showcasing the third year graduates work at AUB Fashion Show, the Graduate Fashion Week catwalk, and AUB HE Show. The shows are of professional standard and will be available to view by the public through ticket sales, and requires full attention working in a small team and individually. This project at a local and national level gives me the opportunity to showcase my work in front of some of the industry’s leading professionals. It involves making in depth research of each event including the 6 p’s to make sure the client’s needs are met. It requires researching of the audience (industry, public and prospective students) and also investors (final year students).

During this unit I hope to be able to gain skills in organisation, time keeping and responsibility in event work. I would like to develop my digital software skills and further my knowledge of the professional fashion industry so that I feel ready to go on to any internship or work opportunities that come my way.
I feel that my most useful skills for this project would be group working, communication and creativity of which I have from previous work experience such as retail work in a charity shop, bar and waitress work, and assisting teaching. Although not all fashion related I feel that they do demonstrate a lot of customer communication skills and have helped me to feel more comfortable and open. I hope to develop this further within this project and to then feel able to go onto an internship or work experience in a fashion related specialism.
I would like to be able to use my strengths of visualisation, illustration and idea generating to help produce successful outcomes. The unit is relevant to my future career aspirations as by helping to create the publication I am working in a team and individual environment where I can develop skills in design, digital software, communication and visualisation that are vital for a career in marketing.

Strengths Strong team member Skills in photoshop, InDesign Interests in marketing Good at giving ideas Creative thinker Interested in layout and presentation Eye for detail Strong interest in magazine and photography Interests in styling Interests in set design Interests in illustration Good at directing and visualizing Weaknesses Not so good with digital software Not good at organizing Have never looked into sponsorship- no experience Not good with cameras or film work Not a logical thinker Never done event work Not good with technical side Not good at mathematic side of work
From this SWOT analysis I have decided I would most like to do the publication side for AUB as I am most interested in Magazine design and photography/ illustration. I feel that this would use my skills the best and will give me chance to expand my digital skills and create more opportunities for myself. I have chosen to specialise in the catwalk side of the shows as I have interests in styling and it would be interesting to help out with something I have never explored before.
Opportunities Opportunity to explore skills in digital design Opportunity to expand software knowledge Opportunity to gain organization skills Could gain knowledge into marketing and PR Could find out if events is something to consider in the future Opportunity to learn new skills and explore something I have never done before Threats Too many people wanting to do the choice I want to do Organisational skills could fail me Not enough skills in marketing and promotion Could not have enough time

Evidence of understanding of underlying concepts and principles (including 6 p’s, client needs, audiences and investors) As a professional project it is expected of us to understand the 6 p’s to make sure the project runs smoothly with no set backs. Each event has a budget to stick to that includes budgeting towards ticket, goodie bag, poster and leaflet production to promote the shows, the stage and exhibition props such as the plants, stands and paints, and also for providing snacks and transport for models. AUB has been lucky enough to gain sponsors through email contact and offers of companies included in the goodie bags. Each event brief is to be followed exactly and is provided by the client, Arts University Bournemouth and Anne Chaisty. Evidence of professional engagement? As this is a professional live project good communication within the groups is vital and attending weekly meetings to discuss with the team managers the happenings within the weeks,so that everyone knows what is going on. Communication was also key and allowed by email (see appendix 4) and in person only to the team leaders as this was a more professional way of communicating. Within specialised groups (publication, film and website) communication was mostly via Facebook messaging in a group created for just the subject (see appendix 9), catwalk and publication, and within a Facebook page (see appendix 10) where sharing photos and discussing meeting times was possible. Pinterest was also used as a moodboard style photo sharing device that everyone had access to in the group. Evidence of professional engagement was shown when help was needed to set up and prepare for the model casting and involved engaging with the models to let them know what exactly to do (see appendix 1). Team Working? Learning how to work in a different professional environment was tough but working in groups daily to make sure everyone knew what was going on and that everyone was up to date was key and ran smoothly. Team working was shown during the model castings where more work and hands were needed to transport garments, rails, take measurements (see appendix 11) and provide entertainment for the models. Ultimately team working was the most valuble of all skills developed as it is virtually impossible to do all the tasks alone.
9
Roles and Responsibilities? Roles and responsibilities were given to each individual in the group to ensure deadlines were met and each task was completed. The roles given during this unit were publication editor and illustrator, catwalk and backstage coordinator and model scouter. Tasks were also given such as setting up studios for the model castings, looking after and entertaining the models, collecting all final lineups from the final year graduates, and contributing ideas and thoughts about the shows, colour scheme, layout of exhibition, magazine layout ( see appendix 12) and goodie bag ideas. These roles were important for the shows to be successful. Technical knowledge and skills Techincal knowledge was vital in the making of the publication as it was to be printed and needed good knowledge of inDesign so that it was of professional printing standard. Skills, new and old have been developed such as personal communication skills, CAD skills such as inDesign and photoshop, and organisational skills have become stronger. Application of specialist knowledge Personal attributes include a passion for illustration which has been translated and shown in the publication by creating stickers to be inserted inside. Problem Solving Problem solving has to be shown where problems and set backs occur so that time is not wasted and tasks are able to be continued without trouble. An example of where problem solving has been demonstrated is when the graduates final line-ups needed to be collected in time for the client to view them, but they were not all complete in time. This involved action to warn the third years that they needed to email their work to Esther in time, and then collection later in the week.

The Live Project I have been working on for this unit is a highly professional project that requires full attention and personal responsibility, leading up to the 3 shows we will be producing; the AUB Fashion Graduate show at the Dance Pavillion Bournemouth on the 15th May 2015, the GFW Bournemouth catwalk and exhibition at The Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London E1 on Saturday 30th May 2015, and finally the AUB HE Show at The Arts University Bournemouth from Friday 19th June until the 26th June 2015.
The unit was a stimulating and exciting project that really helped to develop skills. Working in a group environment was fun and motivating and gave a glimpse into the fashion industry. The catwalk part seemed to be the most busy and fast-paced but this helped to push boundaries and help with time keeping skills to ensure everything was done correctly.

Overall I feel that this project has really helped me to grow in confidence in group situations and helped me to open up and share ideas. The blog has helped me to express my feelings and opinions on the project and I have been able to share these in the group meetings with Esther and with our specialist groups. This has helped me to gain confidence in speaking out loud and in front of an audience as it was something I was quite uncomfortable and unfamiliar with before.
I have learnt that there is always something happening in an event production and that you need to be prepared at all times for something new. This became apparent when we were needed to set up for a model casting (see appendix 2) but only told the day before so had to make time as we were responsible for the set up of this event. Having to ask and secure everything with the client’s needs was also new to me and has shown how you must have good communication skills and a back up plan.
This unit has helped me to gain more knowledge of the fashion industry, event work and enabled me to practice skills that I was unaware I had. Being involved in this events Live Project brief has shown me a glimpse into the professional working industry and helped me to realise how organised you must be at all times. This live project has provided me some experience in fashion events, marketing, and the catwalk behind the scenes side of the fashion shows.

Through the production of the publication for GFW this helped me to develop better communication and group skills and having to collect all the third years work as content has shown how hectic and stressed other people involved can be and how you should not let it get to you and affect your own performance. I was personally responsible for creating and illustrating some stickers that would be inserted into the publication at GFW which I really enjoyed as illustration is what I would ultimately like to go into in the future. I was also a part of the decision making and problem solving process for the group helping to decide on logo’s, layouts and cover features.
Through this project I have been able to gain knowledge into the professional work industry and to be introduced to the career and future study possibilities relevant to my subject interests through self- evaluation and review. I feel that this unit has helped me to achieve the unit learning outcomes and on completion of the unit I am able to demonstrate relevant skills and responsibilities in a professional environment and within the fashion industry in general.
This unit has also enabled me to demonstrate the qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment requiring the exercise of personal responsibility and decision- making. I feel that I have been a good part of the team but perhaps next time would join in with more of the opportunities that came and use my time wiser. I am now going to concentrate on securing work experience or internship opportunities over the summer months to add to my professional CV.

ARTS UNIVERSITY BOURNEMOUTH Learning Agreement Name: Sophie Brampton Course: BA (Hons) Fashion Level: 5 Unit: Design: Enterprise and Innovation Unit Code: FAC556 Credit points: 40 Study hours: 400 Tutor(s): Esther Yarnold Synopsis of study During my ‘Live Events Project’ I will evidence my individual body of work and professional engagement through my own weekly reflective blog and in a 2000 word report also including a professional up to date CV. I have prepared a self SWOT analysis relating to my experience in fashion and showing what I would be best suited doing in this unit. My personal strengths are that I am a strong team member, am a creative thinker, have an eye for detail and precision and am strong at giving unique ideas. My strengths in this unit include interests in marketing, interests in layout and presentation, styling, illustration and strengths in directing and visualizing. For my last project I collaborated with a videographer to make my own fashion film, so I also have some experience in creating moving image, which is relevant for this unit. My weaknesses include being unorganized, not great with digital software and technology, not good at time keeping, and that I have never done event work before. I hope to improve on these skills throughout the unit and that they will eventually become strengths. I am going to take part in a professional live project at a local and national level, which gives me opportunity to showcase my work in front of some of the industry’s leading professionals. I will be making in depth research of each event defining the 6 P’s (Product, Price, Place, Promotion, People and Persuasion) to make sure the client’s needs are met. I will be researching the audience (Industry, Public and Prospective students) and also investors (final year students). This will all be presented creatively and be a part of my final report for assessment. I will be part responsible for the co-design and co-production of the three Fashion Events showcasing final year BA (Hons) Fashion students work at a local Bournemouth show, Graduate fashion week, and the AUB HE summer show. My role in the group is to help with an AUB fashion publication that will be shown at GFW and the other shows, and to be a yearly edition to be shown each year at the shows. I will then be a part of the catwalk team which will have specific roles and tasks such as model casting, running orders, styling, set preparation, front of house, ticket allocation and back stage coordination. To achieve a successful part in both of these roles I will attend weekly meetings and any important events that will benefit my learning and to give a successful and smooth-running event. I will document each of these meetings via weekly blog post.
Each element of the events will happen in consultation with the client (Anne Chasity) with the help of Events manager (Esther Yarnold) and L6 Students, Catwalk/Backstage Coordinator (Lauren Roderick’s) and Exhibition stand design coordinator, (Margot Van Tonder). I believe that by being a part of these events I will expand my knowledge of marketing and event work, and that this will help me to decide where I would like a future career. I feel that this is an exciting and unique opportunity to work in a professional environment and that the end result of the shows will be extremely rewarding.
Aims A1 To further encourage myself to develop my creative, intellectual and practical skills to study at the appropriate level. A2 To demonstrate an understanding of the historical, cultural, professional and contextual frameworks, to provide me with significant work. A3 To introduce myself to a career and future study possibilities relevant to my subject interest through the promotion of self-evaluation and review as an essential part of my personal and professional development. Learning outcomes: On completion of this unit I will be able to: LO1 Develop existing skills and acquire new competences evidenced through a comprehensive body of work that will enable myself to assume significant responsibility within organizations. LO2 Demonstrate the ability to apply underlying concepts and principles in relation to my chosen specialist practice. LO3 Demonstrate the qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment encouraging me to make use of personal responsibility and decision-making. Assessment Requirements I will produce a body of work which will include a 2000 word report plus a weekly blog. This may take the form of an online journal (utilizing appropriate formats and demonstrating a range of skills which should include developmental work and practical project outcomes one of which should be a professional CV).
