A residential intervention inside the AZCA complex in Madrid Every day different kind of people are visiting AZCA. Unfortunately, the majority of these people is an employee at one of the offices. Due to this, there is only liveliness inside the AZCA complex during the office hours. Especially around 9:00 and 18:00, when the employees arrive and leave the complex, there is a lot of activity. Also the lunch break, when people go outside their office to have lunch somewhere, is good moment to be inside AZCA. Outside these moments has AZCA a lot empty open spaces, because nobody use them. For this Complex Projects studio we had to design a landmark. In my opinion, this landmark has to solve the problem of the empty open spaces. So I was wondering what kind of program would attract more people to AZCA outside the office hours. During our research we discovered that AZCA could be seen as a miniature of a city; it has more or less everything. I believe that a public building would not fix the problem, people will still leave the complex. Then I realized that the landmark should ensure that people will stay at AZCA instead of only visiting the site. If there are more people living in AZCA, there will automatically be more activity outside the office hours. The landmark will be a residential intervention; different housing blocks will be placed at the undefined places of AZCA. In the future, these places will be used by the new residents of AZCA. THREE COURTYARDS INSIDE AZCA
The different housing blocks are placed in a specific way to create three courtyards inside the AZCA complex. Each courtyard has its own identity, which is consistent with its surroundings. The first courtyard, which is located closest to the metro access, is the most public one. It is designed an urban square, with planters, benches and space for terraces. The facilities below the housing is focused on the urban character of this square. The will be a bar and space for flex workers. The courtyard in the middle of the complex is a place to relax, an oasis inside the former business district. The trees of the current park will be reused in the new design of this peaceful park. At last, at the north west side of the complex, there will be a residential square. This square will be, compare to the urban square in the south west, more private. With its playgrounds and water fountains, the square has a playful, secure character. The different identities of the courtyards are based on the surroundings. There is a transition from very public in the southeast side, to more private in the northwest side of the complex. In other words; there is a gradient from public to private, which is expressed in the courtyards.

The construction of the building is made of a steel square frame. The size of a square is 7,2x7,2 meter, which is a ideal dimension for this BLOCKsize for an affordable, project. One square is around 50SIZE m2OF , aONE good minimalistic apartment. 50 m2 is also a good size to double and to 7,2 m m devide in two parts, to create7,2different types of apartments. Two squares are big enough to accommodate three elevators, two stairs 3,6 m and two shafts. The houses are stacked towards the two cores of the building, where the elevators, stairs and shafts are located.

According to the Fibbonacci sequence
Project description During the first year of the bachelor Architecture at the TU Delft we have to learn how to work with different forms en structures. For one we had to design a wall according to the Fibonacci sequence. The first two numbers in the Fibonacci sequence are 1 and 1, each subsequent number is the sum of the previous two. I applied this principle to both levels; the 2D level, as well as to volumes. Because I applied the principle to the 3D level as well, it becomes more an object instead of a wall. Course name Form studies - The wall Year of Study: Second semester of my bachelor Architecture in Delft.
Pompenburg at i level
Sustainable Sustainable area area development development in in Rotterdam Rotterdam Project description: This project represents the result of an intensive collaboration with ten different actors of the so called management game. My role was the landscape architect, so I had to convert the abstract plans and wishes of the other actors, like the government, into an integrated architectonic composition. The railway separates the project location in two different parts; the one which should be connected with the city centre of Rotterdam and the other which tries to conflate with the residential area of Rotterdam North. In our opinion is it better to create three different environments instead of two, to realize a better connection with the contrasting surroundings. Instead of only creating a separation between the environments, it was also important for our strategy to design a few connection between the different environments. These connections were visualized both physical and social. As a physical connections between the environments, we want to create a new regional bike path above the Hofbogen (an old railway), which should connect Pompenburg through all different kind of scales. The social connection will be generated by stimulating culture and tourism, so Pompenburg at I-Level can appeal a various audience. Course name: Design Project 5 - Management Game, Area Development
Year of study: Sixth semester of my bachelor Architecture in Delft.
Project place: Rotterdam, the Netherlands
Group project in which each actor had to defend and work out his own interests. My role was the landscape architect.
Concept
Rotterdam is known for its high and modern buildings, but for that reason the human scale is completely disappeared in Pompenburg. So another goal is to bring back the human scale; Pompenburg at I-Level. As the landscape architect I wanted to realise this goal by reducing the size of the buildings in a logical system and also change the materials of the facades through the different scales.
Our group strategy was to create three different environments. For me as the landscape architect it was very clear to invent three different landscape solutions as well.

Click it chair
Step by step, click by click
Project description: During my study abroad at the RWTH Aachen I also participated a smaller course, known as stegreif. These courses are specially offered to trigger your creativity in a short period of time. The main idea of this stegreif called Maker House Möbel, was to design a chair, table or lamp. Everything was possible, there was only one important condition; the object should be build and demolish without the use of screws, nails or glue. I designed the “click it chair”, which refers to easiness to build up this chair. In a few simple steps you can build up this chair. One has to click the vertical elements into the horizontal elements. I also designed an extension of my chair, because I participated the stegreif Make House Möbel - Lampe as well. The Click it lamp functions the same as the Click it Chair, just by clicking it on the chair. There are several options to attach the lamp on the chair, for example on the armrest as you can see on the picture. foodgarter stäffele Die Welt Markthalle in Stuttgart
This project represents my design project I worked on during my study abroad in Germany. I had to design a center for migration; a place that feels like home for all the residents of the city of Stuttgart. Since over 40% of Stuttgart’s residents are of a foreign immigrant background, is it important that migrants integrate more with the immigrants of Stuttgart. In my opinion the specified program for this building was too much focused on the special events in life. I am convinced that a program which is more focused on the daily life, could function better as a home for everybody. I believe that food could be this daily element in life that connects all people of the world. Eating is a very culture-specific activity, but also has its similarity, because everyone must eat every day. This daily matter makes it possible to bring people from different cultures and countries together, because this activity brings a social aspect with it. Therefore, the centre for migration will be reflected in my design as a huge market hall, where the mixture of cultures through the everyday subject of food is achieved. The whole world is united in Foodgarter Stäffele under one roof. Not only the food specialties, but also all the people of the world. Producing an unique object out of a mass-produced mug
Project description: This small project was intended to trigger your creativity, by using only one simple coffee mug. First, the casting of the mug has to be made out of clay, so I was able to made as many porcelain mugs as I needed for the production of my unique object. Because the porcelain mugs were very flexible, it was easy to cut the mugs in different layers. By cutting the mugs there arise open parts of mugs, as well as closed parts of mugs because of the bottom of the mug. After transforming the mugs into different sizes and designs, I have placed these mugs upon each other around one central point. The various handles of the mugs are connected to each other in this central point of the object. Course Name: Noch alle Tassen im Schrank? De kunsthal als verblijfplaats
As a result of a research on places to stay in terms of Space and Place
Project description:
For my final project of my bachelor architecture in Delft I had to make a new design of Rem Koolhaas famous building De Kunsthal in Rotterdam. Since I believe that art should be more accessible for everybody, I have focused myself on the social aspects of art. The new Kunsthal should be a place for meeting and discussing about art and culture; a place to stay. To support this design project I have done more research on places to stay. With the terms Space and Place I have figured out why people will stay at a place and which factors the important influences are. To create a place to stay, the indefinable space must be transformed into a clear place. Various factors, such as recognition and time, are involved in this transformation. The most public levels of De Kunsthal (located on dike and park level) will be accessible, also without buying a ticket. The most public program of the building, like the restaurant and museum shop, are located on these two floors. Above the public levels is the actual Kunsthal located. These less accessible Kunsthal levels are covered with a perforated metal facade to represent the function of these levels; accessible art. Course name: Design Project 6 - Building and Construction

Construction
Gerberette beam
Through the use of Gerberette beams instead of ordinary beams is it possible to reduce the size of the construction at the entrance of De Kunsthal. The biggest span lenght in the middle part of the building is possible by connecting two cantilever beams at the possition where their moment of force 0 is.

climate
Staggered atrium
Winter situation Through the staggered atrium the sun light enter deep into the building in the winter, because of the low position of the sun (14.3 °). This reduces the amount of heating during the winter months, because the atrium will be heated in a natural way by the sun.
Summer situation Through the staggered atrium the sun light enter less deep into the building in the summer, because of the high position of the sun (61.2 °). This reduces the amount of cooling during the summer months, because the atrium warms up less.

Perforaded Facade
The actual Kunsthal levels, above the public levels, are covered with a second facade. This is done to represent the function of the building. The floral pattern of this perforaded metal facade is a piece of art which is visible for everybody. It fits perfectly in the context of the Museumpark. References
