OUGD303FMP PROPOSAL SURGERIES – GROUP Key points for discussion and preparation for individual surgeries Is the position statement clear and coherent? + Brand focus + Broadening application of branding to a wider range of deliverables and outcomes throughout various briefs + Research and conceptually- driven design + Commitment to collaboration and expanding upon contacts both in and outside of the design industry Is there a clear rationale that clarifies what you are doing and why? Reflective of passion for branding, and how this has been extended through both my personal and professional portfolio development, as well as evidenced throughout my dissertation, covering all aspects of branding, marketing and ethical/sustainable design (key areas of interest and focus). Are there clear themes/subjects identified that will allow for the development of significant content, research and source material? General themes of interest, which I hope to pursue throughout the OUGD303 Final Major Project briefs, include the culture and arts industry/sector (with a focus of Photography and Architecture, in particular), Public events and exhibitions and Neurology and Psychoanalysis. Each of these themes allow for a broad depth of research and contextualization to generate ideas, outcomes, and provide a basis of development for design deliverables, falling into categories of branding and brand development, and/or research and conceptually – driven work, of which I specialize. Have specific design disciplines been identified and are they appropriate to your aims and ambitions? Throughout my selected and proposed briefs for the OUGD303 Final Major Project module, I have chosen briefs which I believe play on my strengths within my design practice, and feel that will most effectively represent my interests and design direction throughout my portfolio when meeting with industry portfolios throughout the year and upon graduation. I also believe that within each of the briefs, despite a branding specialism and focus, there is enough diversity to allow for a broad spectrum of design outcomes and disciplines. Throughout the brief deliverables and outcomes I hope to explore editorial, illustrative, typographic, branding, photographic

and print-based design, therefore going on to apply my skills and interest in branding to various contexts for a wider, and more realistic overview and approach, in particular, to collaborative work that I would experience either as a freelance designer, or within a professional studio environment. Have appropriate research activities been identified that will provide an informed body of appropriate source material? An ongoing body of research will be developed through my Final Major Project blog (www.s-wilson1013fmp.blogspot.co.uk) from contextual references such as magazines, books, journals, e-books, online sources, interviews, etc., as well as an ongoing documentation of the pursuit to gain research and insight to support my briefs from various studio and industry visits, including planned trips to Tayburn (Award- winning Edinburgh-based design studio), a print visit to Pressision Printers (Leeds), and an industry placement with Graphic Designer, Joe Gilmore (Qubik, Leeds) to help support and expand upon my existing knowledge and contextual research in regards to branding, print, and editorial design specifically. Have appropriate contextual references been proposed and are they relevant to the overall design practice? See above. Do the proposed briefs provide an opportunity to explore the above concerns? See above.

Do the proposed briefs provide an opportunity to develop a significant body of work appropriate to level 6? Throughout the seven significant and two additional briefs selected for the OUGD303 Final Major Project module, I hope to develop a truly significant body of work which effectively supports and showcases my passion and dedication to working within Graphic Design, with a focus on branding and brand development. I believe that the range of deliverables and potential design direction for each of the briefs will provide me with a wealth of experience and outcomes for a well-rounded, yet reflective portfolio of work.
