Local Events and Things To Do (Continued) nonprofit organization put on by teachers in the Collinsville Unit 10 School District, as well as, Collinsville High School students with the goal to raise money for families in the Unit 10 District who experience unexpected tragedies. 3 Little Birds 4 Life is a nonprofit organization from Collinsville that raises money to grant wishes for young cancer patients, ages 18-40. We are so excited to work with these two organizations and can’t wait to celebrate with all of you. So, come out and help us raise money for local families and grant wishes for some very deserving people! We are still going to have chicken, beer, salad, & rolls. Live entertainment provided by the one and only Johnny Rock-It & The Doublewide Symphony! Halloween Costume Contest/Downtown Trick or Treating, Oct. 26th, 2019, 11:15am-2:15pm, Edwardsville City Park, 101 S. Buchanan St., Edwardsville, IL. Edwardsville Parks Department in cooperation with the Edwardsville Lion’s Club will host a children’s costume contest at the City Park Bandstand immediately followed by downtown trick-or-treating. Costumed children should arrive at the park with their parents by 11:30 a.m. to register or check in for the event. Participants will be grouped in separate age categories: baby to 3 years old, 4-6 years old, 7-9 years old, 10-12 years old and a special category for group costumes. The Edwardsville Lion’s Club will begin judging at noon with each child taking a turn on the stage at the bandstand. Local Events and Things To Do (Continued) Entertainment at City Park, prior to the contest’s start time, includes the SIUE Suzuki Strings playing Halloween-ish music starting at 11:00 a.m. and the Edwardsville Walgreens Store will be taking pictures of each participant with a fall background. Parents can pick up one free copy of the picture at Walgreens after the event. Trick-or-treating on Main Street will immediately follow the costume contest. Participating Main Street merchants will be at their door offering candy to costumed children. You can pick up a map of participating merchants at the registration table. This event is free of charge, but parents must arrive at the park no later than 11:30 a.m. to register for the event. The Parks Dept. will be selling hot dogs, soda and water for those who wish to enjoy lunch. 2019 Edwardsville Halloween Parade, Oct. 31st, 6:30-9:30pm, Starting at Lincoln Middle School, 145 West Street, Edwardsville, IL. Easy Cinnamon-Apple Crostata Need a dessert that is not only delicious but easy to make? Try this recipe for Cinnamon-Apple Crostata. You'll have a hard time waiting to sink your teeth in to the flaky crust with a burst of cinnamon and apples. Find more delicious dessert recipes at Culinary.net.

Ingredients Crust: ▪ Pie Pastry (we used Pillsbury Refrigerated Pie Crusts) Filling: • • • • • •

1/2 cup sugar 4 tsp. cornstarch 2 tsp. cinnamon 4 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples (4-5 medium sized) 1 tsp. sugar (for sprinkling) 2 tbs. chopped pecans

Directions 1. Heat oven to 450°. 2. In medium bowl mix together 1/2 cup sugar, cornstarch and cinnamon. Stir in peeled and sliced apples until well combined. 3. Place flattened pie crust on an ungreased cookie or pizza sheet. 4. Spoon apple mixture onto the center of the crust, spreading the mixture to about 2 inches from the edge of the crust. 5. Fold crust over mixture, pleating along the way. 6. Brush edges of crust with water. 7. Sprinkle sugar over crust and apple mixture. 8. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until crust is a golden brown. 9. Sprinkle pecans over apple mixture. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream. Recipe adapted from Pillsbury.
