5 Tips to Refresh and Elevate Your Décor by DIGS Home.
www.DIGS-home.com
While we are all tasked with staying safe and healthy inside our homes, we certainly have the time to make some minor updates to our rooms. DIGS’ designers Brian Gibson, John L. Harrison, Christine Kommer, and Annette Askam offer five easy steps that can refresh and elevate your surroundings while bringing new, positive energy into your space.
1. Swap out family pictures with freshly updated portraits. Don’t be afraid to use online printing services to finally get those great family shots from a recent vacation.
2. Pull out serving trays and use them creatively – as catchalls for mail and keys, or corralling items on your coffee table, nightstand and bathroom vanity.
3. Touch up the walls of your home to get rid of scuffs, scratches, and smudges. Pick up a paintbrush and notice the tremendous difference it makes.
4. Re-imagine your decorative pillows. Choosing the right pillows can elevate the elegance factor and add extra comfort. And don't forget a luxurious throw to provide that cozy layered feeling.
5. Stock your bar – not just with wine and liquor, but with beautiful embroidered cocktail napkins and an elegant vase of flowers. And while you’re at it, don’t forget to pour yourself a glass, not only for surviving quarantine but to celebrate the goodness that is sure to come. Cheers!
Design Trends from Paris to Cincinnati by Evolo Design
www.evolodesign.com
Back before travel was off-limits due to COVID-19, a team from a high-end interior design firm, Evolo Design led by creative director Jay Takach, had the privilege of visiting top fabric houses in Paris to see them reveal, first hand, the trends that would set the course for 2020 design. These tastemakers – names like Hermès, Pierre Frey and Jim Thompson – start the ripple effect that determines how people from Paris to Los Angeles and everywhere in between will be decorating their homes in the year ahead. Working from home has given people more time than ever to obsess over things they want to change.
Before you online shop your way into another design “don’t,” here are a few trends that caught the eyes of Evolo designers with pictures of how they brought looks from Paris Design Week to local clients here in Cincinnati:
PRINTS, PRINTS, PRINTS | Nothing brings your personality into a room like a print! Prints inspired by animals and nature scenes are all the rage, and this floral wallpaper by tastemaker Osborne & Little, here applied to the ceiling of a breakfast nook, enlivens the space with color and charm.
BOLD COLOR | Unique color and scale transform this powder room from basic and functional to feeling like a delightful jewel box, which was the designer’s inspiration for this small-scale room. Largescale wallpaper murals make a big statement in many collections this year, and this gorgeous one by Thai fabric house Jim Thompson was just what was needed to make it feel like you are entering a work of art.
METALLIC ACCENTS | It’s the little things that elevate a room – and metallic trim in cabinetry and shelving is something we hadn’t seen before. Think of it like jewelry for your room, but durable with an edgy toughness. Evolo designers worked with a local metal shop to create these custom floating shelves of metal and glass for our clients.
THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS | One client’s 1930s home needed a custom solution to make the most of its quirky kitchen. Evolo designers worked with The English Contractor to find just the right answer for the space. This remodel relied on inspiration from a chateau in the Chambord region of France. Look how the shape of the chateau windows are echoed in the custom millwork. C’est magnifique!

Introduction of Champagne Tones by David A. Millett Fine Furniture and Interior Design
www.davidamillett.com
From a design perspective, we are constantly seeing the newest trends, the newest fabrics, how old styles are being recreated and the new colors and patterns to work with. When working with customers we typically see two types of projects, creating something completely new and fresh, or updating something old.
Historically finishes are either silver tones; nickel, chrome, polished nickel, stainless steel, etc., or a brass/gold finish. Other not as popular finishes also exist, think copper, oil rubbed bronze, and black. In terms of trends, contemporary styles have primarily been in polished silver tones. However, recently the brass tones are now making a resurgence in contemporary and mid-century modern contemporary styling, creating mixed finishes and at times unsightly combinations.
Over the last year, we have seen a new style of finishes that we have fallen in love with. Internally we call them ‘Champagne’ tones and finishes. These tones consist of neutral combinations of both silver and golds with subtle yellow tones and blends of creams, beiges, and taupes.
We are seeing that these lovely Florentine silvers with gold pair perfectly with neutral backgrounds. So now we are able to blend finishes together. Both the silvers and gold tones are able to be complemented by the Champagne tones. Champagne finishes can also help to soften strong contemporary silver finishes and furniture, and separately help to contemporize more traditional furniture designs. From a design perspective, now we have a new timeless finish that can help to blend all styles.

The Kitchen ‘Island’ of Opportunity by the V Collective
www.thevcollective.com
Amidst the many design opportunities within a home, we at The V Collective see kitchen islands continue to be a very integral part of family and friend gatherings. They offer a chance to update, add personal character, and fun to any small or largescale makeover. Islands can add pizazz to a kitchen and are opportunities to:
1. Refresh a tired kitchen with architectural accents or new appliances.
2. Incorporate a current accent color eg. saturated blues and greens, even black island cabinets.
3. Add warmth using wood countertops on islands.
4. Custom islands can bring a personal style to a functional room of the houe.
