A Gorgeous New Home is a Perfect Marriage of Light, Space, Beauty, and Comfort
Written by Sheree Allgood / Photography by Rachel Lutz of Andrew Kung Photography
A perfectly honed space is a thing of beauty that informs all the elements of livability, elegance, comfort, and sophistication. All the stars aligned when builder Mat Walker of WP Land Company, Jody Salters of Nimbus 9 Interiors, and architect Rod Sabo Design Associates came together to complete a growing Indian Hill’s family vision of the perfectly crafted domicile. A beautiful home inside and out, there is ample space for alone time in the home’s quiet nooks, or come together and celebrate in large, sumptuous rooms.
The home itself is regally nestled on a charming lot of rolling green acreage. The builder went to extraordinary lengths to ensure that many large, mature trees spanning the lot were left intact while the business of construction took place. Upon entering the warm and airy foyer, the eastern sunlight dapples the glistening deep mahogany-stained wood plank flooring.
The entry leads into a dazzling kitchen with an adjoining great room. The kitchen is truly a masterpiece of design, craftsmanship, and functionality, marrying traditional and modern features. The oversized marble island serves as a casual dining space for leisurely mornings and afternoon homework and snack sessions.
The kitchen is a white marble tour de force, with additional marble components serving as the kitchen’s wrap-around floor-to-ceiling backsplash framed with a fabulous wood molded oven hood. A farmhouse sink is a charming and functional addition and is uniquely part of the oversized kitchen island, illuminated by a pair of simple, yet elegant brushed brass chandeliers. Brushed brass fixtures also adorn the cabinets, handles and drawer pulls. The substantial Wolf range and ovens call attention to the family’s love of homey pursuits where every day is a celebration. A perfectly ordered pantry is the perfect spot for the family’s staples, an extra refrigerator, and all the accruement necessary for a young and growing brood.
Another distinctive and very family-forward feature of the home is its great room, expanding to include a gorgeous three-season outdoor space. Nano doors span the breadth of the home’s western side and open onto a patio that can be warmed by a beautiful stone fireplace and built-in heaters or can be screened at the touch of a switch on balmy summer evenings.
The indoor section of this expansive and comfortable room has a high, beamed, and coffered ceiling, which embraces the light coming in from all angles. The indoor fireplace has a marble surround, reflecting the adjacent kitchen, and is flanked by beautiful custom bookcases.
The talented Jody Salters from Nimbus 9 interiors (who worked with the family on the interior design elements throughout the house), deftly executed the room’s in shades of taupe and dove grays, deep navy, charcoal, and white. Crypton fabrics selected for big comfy couches are both elegant and exceptionally durable. The room has both style and function, with enough seating for this large family and then some. It is a space abounding in comfort and conversation and a place to make happy memories.
On either side of the kitchen are two rooms that no new home should be without: a sumptuous and well-appointed dining room and a cozy morning room, with a view across a pastoral and expansive backyard. What is most beguiling about these spaces are the passageways to them from the kitchen. Toward the dining room is a splendid butler’s pantry, another indication of this family’s knack for elegant entertaining. The adjacent space to the quiet and romantic morning room is a lovely coffee bar, a place to grab a cup and curl-up with the latest thriller and the family pet.
The high-quality elements of this home abound in the more private areas as well. This hard-working family has an equally hard-working office, all custom designed with magnificent built-ins and touches of industrial elegance achieved via the lighting fixtures and hardware. Like the kitchen, the office boasts organizational trickery, with hidden doors that house printers and other office ephemera that would serve as clutter in lesser spaces.
Walker is credited as the genius behind the home’s harmony and balance, making sure he met the client’s every need. In working with the family, the architect, and the interior designer, Walker was committed to ensuring that every part of the home had rhyme and reason, that there was nothing squandered, and nothing was left to chance. Walker’s team provides solutions for his customers, anticipates their needs, and serves as a steward for the lifestyle they envision. His deep love for the building industry has led him to construct some of the area’s finest new builds, including the stunning new development Heitmeyer Farms in Sycamore Township and Stonewood in Symmes Township. Walker is quick to point out that a team of talented people, including Sabo Designs and Jody Salters hit all the high marks with this exceptional home.
